Yes another new thread. A gentle chat for old friends and new

Grammaretto Wed 14-Oct-26 14:19:40

I agree and will do nothing re the boiler just yet.
Thanks for the advice.
I was about to advertise my desk today. I inherited it from my mum and it's been languishing in the attic for 20 years.
When I'd finished describing and photographing it, I decided not to sell it after all. It's so much better than the replacement desks!
So I have sold it to myself. 😅

I wouldn't want to clear up dog vomit either NN. Hope it's nothing serious.

Very lazy day so far but I am about to drive to the tip.

I've been asked by the local am dram group if they can use my garden for the spooky play they've been writing for Halloween.
I could hardly refuse.

I hope all the Lobstars are doing well.xxx

NotSpaghetti Wed 14-Oct-26 15:22:33

So I have sold it to myself. - well I do hope you got a decent price for it so you can maybe have a nice bottle of wine or an afternoon tea!
grin

Doodle Wed 14-Oct-26 20:55:37

Oh NN sorry you’re not feeling great. Hope you’re ok for your trip. Poor doggy too.

Doodle Wed 14-Oct-26 20:56:33

Grammaretto i think you made a good self purchase there. The desk sounds lovely 🤣

ixion Wed 14-Oct-26 22:29:21

Good solution about the boiler, Grammaretto.
Do you think the buyers will accept this and not try to chip you open negotiations about the sale price? Keeping positive for you.

How lovely to have a request for your garden setting for a spooky play.
Spiky Norman 🦔 continues to come for supper every evening. I feel honoured, DC say it's down to our garden being unmanicured, unlike all the other beautiful ones around us.
I try ...

Late to the party tonight as me and my Match Buddy have been 'chilling' (metaphorically and literally) on the ⚽️ sidelines, yet another eye watering performance for Our Team, who haven't lost a match this season (10 played, 8 won, 2 drawn). Carry on like this and we won't be needing Cheerleaders, Doodle.
Sorry about that, can you bear it?

Kaimoana sends her love.

Jan, how is Mr.J? Thinking of you x

Grammaretto Thu 15-Oct-26 09:07:08

Our garden is very spooky after dark!
There's a long unlit driveway and it's a big and imposing Georgian pile.

When my DC were small and we put turnip lanterns in the windows hoping to attract Guisers to offer treacle scones, sweets and apples, and to listen to their songs and jokes but noone dared come 😲 so our own kids had to join their friends on established routes around well lit housing estates.

Love to Kaimoana. I tried to find her on FB but couldn't

Thanks for the positivity ixion and well done our team. Lovely to keep seeing your prickly friend 😍

DGD gave me a positive frog which I keep in my pocket.

The little penguin was sent by DGS from NZ.

Grammaretto Thu 15-Oct-26 09:38:18

And here are the photos

NotSpaghetti Thu 15-Oct-26 11:59:16

I love your frog.
Keep him close.
❤️

Grammaretto Thu 15-Oct-26 12:28:30

Thanks NotSpaghetti
The frog says he'll keep me company and I am not to give up.

Thanks for the link to contact Kaimoana, Ixion

At yoga this morning I heard the worst house moving cautionary tale ever - and they survived!

The grand piano is going today. It belongs to music man who installed it here when he was sure he was getting the house. Perhaps he still will?

Doodle Thu 15-Oct-26 21:14:31

ixion please pass in my love to your match buddy. I think of her and her tiger tail often. Thank you for the massage from Kaimoana
Grammaretto ooh that does sound spooky. I love your positive frog, what a lovely thing to have from your DGD.
And a penguin from your DGs.
I’m off to bed again. Not feeling well tonight again
Think I’ve eaten something that doesn’t agree with me.

ixion Thu 15-Oct-26 22:14:16

Sorry to hear that, Doodle. Hope a decent night's sleep settles the problem x

Grammaretto Thu 15-Oct-26 22:30:22

Poor dear Doodle. I hope you feel better soon.

I'm just home from ceilidh dancing. Some new people came including a young couple from Singapore. They were so happy. It was infectious.

I had been feeling a bit sorry for myself but the dancing really improved my mood.

The youngest DGD are nearby at the other GP so I hope to see them during this half term.

My DGS, who has just begun university, was at a lecture by Barrack Obama in Glasgow which he loved . Obama was an excellent speaker but he didn't mention Trump once! 😂

Jan16 Fri 16-Oct-26 20:32:27

Grrrrrr. Just lost the message I typed out so carefully!
Ixion thanks for asking about DH. He is so much better now that he is not taking so many pills. The steroids have been taken away completely and also another pill I can’t remember. He is still a bit breathless but nothing like he was a few weeks ago. There were 3 hospitals involved in his treatment and Im sure they were all prescribing the same pills and no one checked.
Grammaretto I used to do Scottish dancing and absolutely loved it but alas Im not able to take part anymore. Its all I can do to walk with a stick since my stroke.
* Doodle* hope you are soon feeling better.
I had my flu jab today and didn’t even feel the needle go in!

Doodle Fri 16-Oct-26 21:40:09

Grmmaretto dancing sounds fun. Glad it lifted your spirits.
Still not feeling great tonight so off to bed now. Very tired.
jan so pleased your Dh is feeling better.
Thanks ixion
Sleep well all

Grammaretto Sat 17-Oct-26 01:09:00

I lost my post too Jan 😡 I'm sorry to be thoughtless by talking about dancing which you can no longer do.
I am glad your DH seems to be better on less medication. Interesting 🤔

I spent the day, which should have been moving house day, enjoying myself.
A friend invited me for a walk and lunch.
The walk took us to Rosslyn castle which was looking beautiful in the autumn sunshine.

Instead of cooking my usual Friday supper I suggested to my friend, who has had a stroke recently, we should go to the cinema and dinner out. He chose Indian food and I chose the film. Sense and Sensibility which we both enjoyed despite the couple next to us eating crisps noisily the whole time. Why do they?
Has it always been thus?
My DM would never go to our local fleapit cinema because someone inevitably ate oranges or smoked or both.

I hope you are getting a good sleep. Doodle and feel better tomorrow or is that today! I can't sleep.

Doodle Sat 17-Oct-26 21:41:24

Grammaretto i want to go and see Sense and Sensibly too. I love period things. Glad you had a nice day. Good for your friend to have a trip out too.
Lovely photo. Beautiful blue sky.
I had a nice lunch out with friend and bought a lovely pair of boots half price.

ixion Sat 17-Oct-26 23:07:05

A difficult day, Grammaretto, when you thought you would be moving. Pleased a day out lifted your spirits somewhat. This slow deconstruction of your family home must be difficult, day on day. We took my DF's precious stamp collection to be valued for auction. Although the valuation and subsequent auction was gratifying, it just felt well, grubby, to have his treasured pages pawed over (it seemed). We have several nice antique leather bound volumes of gardening and botanicals which we will get someone to have a look at, but they came to us after no-one else in DH's family wanted them and so don't have the same personal connection. (In fact I don't think he even knows where they came from and where they're shelved).

I am so glad Jan, that Mr.J is making progress. And you? I am, apparently, 19 weeks through my 26 week strength and balance weekly class.
Lovely and gentle with our young physio leader - I think she sees us all fondly as her adopted grannies and grandpas. Unlike her boss, who steps in occasionally and treats the sessions like a boot camp. Chairs with arms?, he tuts. You only do 10 reps of this exercise? he asks incredulously.

I hope you won't need your new boots quite yet, Doodle 🫣
I'm not a fan of inclement weather, whether it be rain, cold, snow, ice ...🥶

Food delivery tomorrow. Refusing to be beguiled yet by Christmas offers, I have made one exception and ordered Barney's Advent calendar 🐈.

Naughtyneine Sun 18-Oct-26 17:44:53

Hola from Majorca...we are staying in Cala Bona. Arrived yesterday after a 2am wake up...It was all seamless...Exeter airport is just lovely. Very accessible...we went to the barrier at the closest car park to drop the case and me off and lady on the intercom said park here and upgraded us so DH didn't have to walk from the long stay car park (we are only here for 5 days). Our lovely friend had treated us to the Executive Lounge too. Only 8 of us in there including a lady who had 2 huge glasses of white wine....at 4am.!!!!I love a vino but even by my standards that was a bit too early. I'm actually useless at drinking at any time other than the evening my body lock says yippee it's 6pm...Chenin time.
We walked along a lovely promenade to Cala Millor and Mass in Spanish. Needless to say the sermon went over our heads but I sat and remembered all the places I'd been to Mass in including those on pilgrimage to the Holy Land. I prayed then that if it be God's will I might meet someone to share my life with....little did I know that he'd arrange it for 5 days after I returned home. I am very blessed in so many ways. It's cloudy here today...thunder has been forecast but thankfully not appeared.
Jan... I'm so pleased that Mr J is much better...and that the reduced meds are working better for him.
Grammaretto..You keep dancing lovely lady...this too will pass and you'll be settled in somewhere you love and feel happy.
DH has just asked if I'd like a cocktail...we are an hour ahead so it's past 6pm... apparently they are included in the All Inclusive....so maybe I will.

Naughtyneine Sun 18-Oct-26 18:10:20

Um....just as DH appeared with drinks so everyone's phone went off with a civil alert...torrential rain...gale force winds, threat of flooding...move to higher area if necessary...we are on the first floor so fingers crossed all will be ok. 😱

Naughtyneine Sun 18-Oct-26 18:10:55

This....

ixion Sun 18-Oct-26 18:46:46

Gosh - at least it was in English too!
Take care x

Doodle Sun 18-Oct-26 21:35:07

ixion I wore my new boots today, they are decorative rather than practical but I loved the colour and they were half price so I bought them. I do have heavy duty boots for inclement weather.
NN what a lovely time you’re having. Hope the torrential rain doesn’t arrive but one floor up you should be ok,
Been out for lovely meal today with DS1 and family. Beautiful roast veg and ice cream for pud. Lovely

Grammaretto Sun 18-Oct-26 22:46:40

Your holiday sound very exciting NN
a bit too exciting 😕
Enjoy your cocktails and friends and pray the storm doesn't materialise.

Your new boots sound fun Doodle . I still love my blue suede boots but keep them for best.

I spent the day at an arts trail in Dunbar with my friend. So many beautiful things to resist.

Tonight I was out to dinner. 5 of us.
It was a lovely meal and company but I am very tired now.

Jan16 Mon 19-Oct-26 12:35:21

Wouldn’t worry about 6pm NN especially if the cocktails are included! Sounds good to me! Enjoy the rest of your holiday sounds brilliant. Doodle I like the sound of your boots. Unfortunately I now seem to be stuck with flat lace up shoes! 👞👞 And I have a cupboard full of shoes sandals and boots! Grrrrrr! By the way does anyone ever hear from Cherry nowadays?

Naughtyneine Mon 19-Oct-26 20:02:35

And this is what we are flying back into.... Honestly you couldn't make it up. We went to the market in Cala Millor this morning....and I found 2 beautiful dresses down to 10 euros as it was end of season. It would have been very rude to leave them behind I feel.
Jan I do understand how you feel about your sandals and boots. I had loads of lovely heeled shoes but lost confidence in wearing them after the hip ops. I have taken to wearing converse trainers lots of the time. They come in a range of colours, some sparkly, etc. Have a look on Vinted and see if there is anything you like or might be suitable. The Funky seniors club is awaiting.....
