Do you read a daily newspaper ?

We have the Telegraph every day and then add in the Sunday Times. To be honest, I am completely fed up with the NOTW hacking scandal and the papers and TV news take on it all. We usually watch Sky News as the BBC News is so biased (probably a lot of you will disagree with me about that, but I think that anybody who watches a lot of news programmes on different channels will realise that the Beeb always has the same take on the news - not what I always want to hear). These days there is so much that you can find out from the internet - if you look and digest from many different sources you are more likely to come to the truth of things.

Like GillieB have the Telegraph and ST although I am becoming increasingly disenchanted with them both. Far too many bits, full of nonsense, veering towards 'celeb' articles constant repetition and totally biased. I think the thing that would really push me to cancelling is the thought of not having to see Jeremy Clarkson's ghastly grinning visage leering out at me ever again. 3 weeks in France without a newspaper or any news at all, was enlightening - maybe I will try and de-tox and put the money towards something worth while - could save up to £10 a week.... but I would miss the book and theatre reviews

Baggy Are you sure your dad was not my husband? I'm sure he loves his Guardian more than me, especially as I read the Telegraph!

As indicated in my previous post, we decided to give up our daily paper, having got fed up with the Telegraph which we took for years - but DH got offered the Mail for three weeks at half price so decided to try it. It is the most appalling dross and I wouldn't wrap chips in it. I have threatened to cut off his conjugals and hang them on the clothes line if he should decide to take a subscription!

We bought the Times on Sunday when living in England. I now read the Age and the Sydney Morning Herald and the Guardian all online. I used to buy the Sydney Morning Herald when I lived in Sydney, it would take the whole weekend to read.

I prefer watching/listening to Sky News or BBC Breakfast in the morning or Channel 4 News in the evening on weekdays but I skim the Daily Mail if DH is going out for a walk and buys it for me and read the Telegraph on Saturdays - I like the crossword although I rarely complete it.

Just read the freebie locals I am afraid. Newspapers cannot be trusted sadly. Oh, we also read what we call the Lidl comic to see if they are selling something we can't live without.

Baggy, your father and my husband - not one and the same, by any chance? We have Guardian and had same conversation (?) with newsagent! On Sat we also have Indie and Sun we have Indie and Observer. Rarely get to finish them all, but I don't watch TV very often, which helps. Times not allowed in house either.

I must be in the family too! There was a time when seemingly random papers wee coming through the letter box. When I'd had enough of the Sun and the Telegraph arriving on the doormat, I challenged the newsagent who confessed rather sheepishly that they'd taken on a paper boy who turned out to be dyslexic.

I love reading newspapers but have found that, increasingly over the years, I have had difficulty retaining serious information. However, since having the Guardian on subscription on my Kindle, I am finding that I can remember a lot more..Is it because I'm not distracted by other bits of news on the page and loads of adverts? Also I'm no longer accused of 'always having my head in a newspaper' as no-one knows what I'm reading!!

I used to read the Scotsman online, mainly for the forum comments as the editorial bias towards Labour is so obvious, indeed laughable. Now read The Herald for comment but get hard news from BBC website.

Totally love (and Buy) my Local Paper, nice balance between good news and pictures and court reports, what the idiot Council have been up to and, of course, essential hatches, matches and dispatches

I do love my Times, especially Times 2 and even sneak a look on my iPad with my early morning mug of tea. It does take up a lot of time, but what else can one light the fire with?

I no longer buy The Times or Sunday Times and have replaced them with The Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph. I never thought I'd live to see the day when I bought the Torygraph, but I do like to see what the right-wing press is saying as well reading The Guardian and Observer.

Used to occassionally 'treat' myself to the Sunday Times ...but since NOTW saga have stopped doing so.

Generally get all my news via BBC ...radio or internet; although I was accused by another Gransnetter of reading the Daily Mail when she was rubbishing my opinion on another thread! I did wonder how she would "know", unless she'd been reading that paper

However ...have recently bought the i-paper when I've been out and wanted something to read ...found that to be informative news with no/little hype or superlative headlines...and it cost so little!

I agree with Jacey about the i-paper especially as I begrudge paying the earth for so much rubbish in most and when I haven't the time to read the better ones right through! Sadly DH buys tabloid junk but basically for the sport which I can manage to live without
Our local paper used to be daily but has recently gone 'weekly' and downhill. the news is old and the paper itself weighs a ton! Sky and television news suffices quite well and it is up to date!
In whatever paper you read have you all seen that the government are planning to close coastguard stations around the UK? Please see my thread in the Health Forum re the closure of stations and sign the e-petition - and please get everyone you know to do so! Apologies for sort-of hijacking this posting but it is a vital emergency service that needs our help!
