Zengran and I are starting a Proud to be Old club for gransnetters. We are sick of the 'culture' of youth worship in our society and people trying to disguise their age all the time (always downwards once they're out of their twenties).

Join here!

Old Pride Rocks!

No Bags that is associated with the Oldie mag.

notso Duplicate names appear to be OK on Fb anyway. sometimes when you google a name you gets dozens of the same one. Hard to pick out the one you want.

You are sure you won't be mistaken for a group of old gay people?

You could get him to join.

Oldie Pride?

Bags Fri 26-Apr-13 13:49:48

Not a clique, no. And not a discussion forum. At least that's not how I see it. Just a public page about how being old is nothing to hide from or be ashamed about or try to disguise if you don't want to.

You wouldn't have to be a gransnetter to look at it, like it, etc, but it could acknowledge that it sprang from Gransnet. Good publicity for them.

Crossed with your update Elegran, OldPride may be OK now?

Elegran Fri 26-Apr-13 13:49:33

Pretty big clique, Jings there are a whole lot of people out there who qualify.

Elegran Fri 26-Apr-13 13:47:46

Whatever we think of or find on the net, Fb or Twitter that promotes pride in not being a green youngster , jings

Groups have been created and thrived on lesser aims.

Notso Fri 26-Apr-13 13:47:37

If we include the word Gransnet in our title would we need to run everything past HQ because of branding issues?

If so, would OlderPride get round it? Doesn't have quite the same ring to it though.

Bags Fri 26-Apr-13 13:47:14

I like the pride of lions idea, elegran.

j08 Fri 26-Apr-13 13:46:45

Or, is it going to be a break-away Gransnet? With limited subjects?

Or one big clique?

Just asking.

Elegran Fri 26-Apr-13 13:45:00

Just thought of a pride of lions, which is mainly composed of sister lionesses, who do the hunting, plus their cubs and a resident male who does d* all except eat, copulate and see off other males.

j08 Fri 26-Apr-13 13:43:24

What sort thing would you be posting on the facebook/twitter accounts? Sort of: Hello, it's Thursday and I still haven't had any work done on my face?

Just a bit confused

Elegran Fri 26-Apr-13 13:42:27

Sorry, forgot to blue that

It looks as though they are about to become Ex Old Pride, bags

It does leave a vacancy though ( as when a man marries his mistress)

Since there is/was a band called Old Pride, could we add in Gransnet perhaps to show where it started and to distinguish us (because we are anyway)?

Old Pride from Gransnet ???

Gransnet Old Pride?

What do people think?

I'll ask HQ via site wotsits as well.

If you scroll down through soop's photo's there's one of the GN Edinburgh meet up (below the one of glass); I think it would be perfect for the photo that goes at the top of the FB page. It shows how diverse us older women are.

I'm in!

soop Fri 26-Apr-13 13:18:17

Butty 'Old woman on white background...' What a lady! Love her spirited stance. smile

soop Fri 26-Apr-13 13:14:25

when flowers sunshine
I'm with you lot all the way! I'm positively proud to be elderly, if a little creaky, and I'm truly HAPPY...just saying! grin

For those who have not done Facebook and Twitter - I hadn't either until a few weeks ago (#pitchforkedinheadfirst)

You can have a Facebook account and show nothing at all on it that can be seen by anyone, except your name and the fact of your existence. From it you can then look at other people's Fb pages - millions of them. It is even more absorbing than GN, if that is possible.

There are closed groups and secret groups, as well as open ones that anyone can join. To get into a closed or secret group you need to be invited. The names of closed ones can be found by searching, but the secret ones are . . .secret.

I've just posted links to this thread on the Kingston upon Thames and the Brighton and Hove local sites.

On feminist marches we used to chant:

^Can’t kill the spirit
She’s like a mountain
Old and strong
she goes on and on^

Is this movement for old women only or are old men welcome too?

janthea Fri 26-Apr-13 12:44:45

How about 'Old and Bold! Beware of Oldies!'
