Having read the thread on hymns I wonder if we might enjoy a good virtual sing together? There'd be no one to complain or overhear us individually 'gieing it laldy'.
We could choose a hymn/song and set a time to start. Me in my small corner...

Oopsadaisy12 I'm up for singing and dancing stately as two galleons if you are :-)

vampirequeen I now have an ear worm lol. It's usually my friend Shirley who sings that when we are on a road trip and I'm stuck with it for days. But thanks for making me smile :-)

Have a good evening folks

Think I will have hum along have a terrible singing voice.

Fennel Tue 13-Mar-18 18:59:45

Jalima I remember "With his head tucked underneath his arm"
My Mum's Dad used to sing it. And also the Lion and Albert ( but that's not a song.)

Fennel Tue 13-Mar-18 19:00:42

ps not sure if it was his or her head.

Oopsadaisy12 Tue 13-Mar-18 19:10:40

Fennel, His.

Oopsadaisy12 Tue 13-Mar-18 19:11:34

All sorts, I shall practice being stately. The galleon part is sorted.

It was her head Fennel, I think the song refers to Ann Boleyn.

I used to enjoy Tom Lehrer songs when I was a teenager.
Most normal teenagers used to like Cliff Richard grin but my friend and I used to sing Tom Lehrer songs, Stanley Holloway favourites and some Scottish music which I can't remember now (oh dear)

Lemongrove, we seem to share musical taste and utter daftness! "Blackbird" is one of my favourites, and I've been known to give a mean rendition of "Right Said Fred". Other songs I have loved and murdered include "Honeybun" from S. Pacific and "Copacabana", but I'm not fussy; I'll give anything a go.

An EP! A blast from the past Jalima ?

Does anyone have an old record of Blueberry Hill ( Fats Domino) I always used to put that on jukeboxes in coffee bars and pubs.

lemongrove Tue 13-Mar-18 21:54:20

Great minds and all that graninthemist?

What about the Ying Tong Song?

Katek Tue 13-Mar-18 22:59:29

How about a bit of G & S? Reckon I could make a stab at Poor Little Buttercup.......

Love this version after 40 sec mark!

I tried to teach the Ying Tong Song to a bemused DGD grin
She did think it was quite funny though.

Jalima1108 Tue 13-Mar-18 23:15:52

South Pacific - now you're talking!

Any men around to do the deep voice in There is Nothing Like a Dame?

lemongrove Tue 13-Mar-18 23:20:35

Happy, happy happy happy talk! Tra la la la la

Jalima1108 Tue 13-Mar-18 23:23:28

I'm gonna wash that man right outa my hair

Grandma2213 Wed 14-Mar-18 00:22:59

lemongrove oh the Ying Tong Song. We used to sing that with my Dad who was a great 'Goon' fan! Also 'I'm Walking Backwards for Christmas'!

Jalima I'll have to teach my DGC. They will love it.

lemongrove Wed 14-Mar-18 09:26:17

Happy days Grandma2 we used to sing that too ‘I’m walking backwards for Christ....mas, acr...oss the Irish Sea!
Warble.

This thread has absolutely made my day. The wit of you gransnetters is phenomenal!

Funnily enough I woke up with the hymn that the line comes from going round in my head! My friend Pauline used to sing it when we were at school, many moons ago!

Jesus bids us shine with a clear, pure light, Like a little candle burning in the night; In this world of darkness, we must shine, You in your small corner, and I in mine

Jalima1108 Wed 14-Mar-18 10:03:16

South Pacific took over from Tom Lehrer when we were about 15! My friend and I knew every song word for word (ahh)

Bali Hai is calling me
(Well, actually it's the U3A)

Jalima1108 Wed 14-Mar-18 10:06:09

That sounds lovely Margrithea, I don't know that one

Another one that springs to mind is 'Jesus wants me for a sunbeam'

Katek Wed 14-Mar-18 10:44:27

Didn’t Sunshine Corner have a little welcome song? Something about it being ‘jolly fine’ and ‘for children under ninety nine’ ?

Now as for a song from a musical-where to start? I’ve had ‘Bui Doi’ going around my head since seeing Miss Saigon recently along with so many others!

Oopsadaisy12 Wed 14-Mar-18 12:38:02

The hills are aliiiiiiive, with the sound of GNrs practising, musiiiiiiiic.
And the goats are scared......

FlorenceN Wed 14-Mar-18 13:18:30

Oh how we danced on the night we were wed
We danced and we danced for we hadn't a bed

Jane10 Wed 14-Mar-18 13:59:34

I keep your hand in mine as a precious souvenir!
(I was brought up on Tom Lehrer)
