Culture/Arts

Huh, I could have made that!

Ah, but the people who say that didn't and that is an important factor.

Modern art is more than what is physically presented, it is about the thoughts that led to the art being produced.

Please discuss.

Paul Joseph Watson is an extreme right blogger/youtuber/conspiracy theorist who has been accused (charged?) with hate speech.

Here's his youtube:
youtube.com/user/PrisonPlanetLive

Here's an article about him and art:
www.google.com/amp/s/www.wmagazine.com/story/infowars-alt-right-modern-art/amp

Not really sure I'm concerned about his views on culture tbh

Elegran this is very interesting - I see the pink button as "heavier" and grounded in a mass of white. It would be somewhere bottom left for me.
Not on the bottom row as that is just wrong!!

Definitely NOT in the middle as that is obvious and signifies nothing and not top right as that is too uncomfortable... I suppose if I wanted it to be awkward I might put it there.

I also think if I was looking at, say "oppression" or "hostage" I may reconsider the centre position to be honest Chewbacca

I like taking the pink out and leaving a space in the bottom row at tge right. That speaks to me as "more to come".

Thank you, Fanny.

Hi, NotSpaghetti

You can if you so choose go to the box and get three more buttons from the box and put them at row 5, columns 6, 7 and 8 if you wish to as to have more to come ...

Which colour or colours of buttons would you choose to do that?

If you produced the "more", over to the right, what would it be?

FannyCornforth Sun 17-Jul-22 09:54:38

Hello again
What are you talking about?
The buttons and so on?
Thank you!

StarDreamer Sun 17-Jul-22 10:23:49

Hello, Fanny

Yes, the buttons.

FannyCornforth Sun 17-Jul-22 10:28:00

I don’t understand ?
What are you talking about? Which link, if any?

Re. the buttons; I would close my eyes and let the pink button drop onto the grid. Wherever it landed would be where I would place it. And the white buttons would be placed around the pink one, but piled on top of one another, thus leaving the majority of the grid bare. The pink button would thus be protected, as in my mind, it’s the beating heart of the whole piece.

If the pink button is placed on any of the nine inner grid points, then the protection could be with three buttons piled up on each of the eight nearest grid points that are nearest to the grid point upon which the pink button is placed.

But what if the pink button is placed on an edge point or a corner point?

Do the piles go off the grid onto imaginary points - imaginary but their positions discernable - or do the piles stay on the grid, and if so, how are they placed?

NotSpaghetti suggested a layout that suggested more to come

So, What is the "more".

For example, could it be that in rows 3 through to 5 at columns 11 through to 13 there is a newly produced grid point and at each of those nine new grid points there is placed a light blue button?

Or something else?

Or somewhere else?

Or both?

MrsKen33 Sun 17-Jul-22 11:29:47

No pink button at all. Can I change it for a dark green, bottom left?

FannyCornforth Sun 17-Jul-22 11:35:07

Oh Ken, don’t you start ?
I haven’t a clue what’s going on!

StarDreamer Sun 17-Jul-22 11:35:59

Well you can have a copy and change it on the copy. smile

Can you say your reason or reasons please?

StarDreamer Sun 17-Jul-22 12:02:09

MissAdventure

Yes, I was thinking that, too.
I wonder if there is an opposite type of art which showcases OCD?

Hello Fanny

I am here quoting the post by MissAdventure that inspired this discussion about the grid of buttons, twenty-four white, one pink, to be placed on a 5 by 5 grid.

The idea being where would people place the pink button and why.

So there were posts answering that question, as posed.

Yet the discussion has widened, one person removed the pink button and left a space, another person stacked buttons on some squares, not others.

Then the concept of "more to come" arose.

Then, well what is the "more" and where will it be placed.

Then the idea of swapping the pink button for a dark green one.

Then the idea of making a copy of the first grid and its buttons and altering the copy.

What I find interesting is the way that the art is developing by the interaction of the thoughts of a number of people.

I suggested the original, but I had not thought of the other ideas that are arriving in the thread.

So please join in, Fanny.

FannyCornforth Sun 17-Jul-22 12:19:51

Oh, okay, I sort of get it!

If I was to try to represent OCD I wouldn’t do anything at all like that.
My dad had OCD for a long time, thankfully no longer.
To me it’s a lack, or an absence, of control, rather than the presence of it.
It’s more like a feeling and a fear of chaos; and the action of trying to overcome it.
It could also be seen as a sort of vicious circle too.

Themeaning of the "more to come" position of the bottom right corner is undefined, it has no allocated meaning at all, but signifies the infinity of possibilites available to the observer.

Chewbacca Sun 17-Jul-22 13:07:26

This picture hangs on my living room wall. I think that the black sheep should, ideally, be standing by the tree. But I live with its error anyway! grin

That is a lovely way to put it.

Thank you for posting the picture.

Is it a one-off or a limited edition or an unlimited edition please?

Chewbacca Sun 17-Jul-22 13:19:08

Limited edition of 50 StarDreamer. I've had it for a long time and think I got it from a gallery in Wales. The sheep are little balls of Welsh sheep's wool.

StarDreamer Sun 17-Jul-22 13:23:30

Thank you, Chewbacca.

Chewbacca Sun 17-Jul-22 13:40:28

I looked at this many times and never spotted the obvious, until it was pointed out to me. Can you see it straight away?

MerylStreep Sun 17-Jul-22 13:41:19

Thanks for that info Fanny
I’ve never seen the film which is odd because I often dressed as Sally for fancy dress parties.
Even if I say it myself, I looked good ?

Chewbacca Sun 17-Jul-22 13:48:54

Go on Meryl, share your photos!

MissAdventure Sun 17-Jul-22 14:16:37

I can only see 4 toes on one of the feet Chew.
Is it something far more subtle, though?

Chewbacca Sun 17-Jul-22 14:23:08

No MissAdventure, that's spot on and I'm quite miffed that you spotted it immediately and I'd gazed at it for ages and STILL had to have it pointed out to me! grin
Yours sincerely
Mr Magoo
