I just thought of another one.

If you have twenty-five buttons and you need to place them in a 5 by 5 grid pattern spaced out on a table, and twenty-four of the buttons are white, and one is pink, where in the grid does the pink one get placed, and why?

I would discard the pink one as I absolutely hate pink, and would leave a space in the centre.

NotaGran55 - I agree with you I'd dump the pink one as I also don't like pink but think I would leave the space at the bottom right

The point if conceptual art is that someone thought to do it.
We can all copy it, but we didn't think up the concept. (Not that I want to dance in a circle with my finger up someone else's bottom)

We had a "modern art installation" in our town centre a few years ago. It consisted of 100 lemon buns, all laid out on the floor outside the town hall. I have no idea what it was meant to represent and it wasn't there very long, because within about 10 minutes, it had been eaten by pigeons.

I would put the pink button near (but not at) the top right corner, at the second row, four from the left, where it would make a dynamic assymetry, taking the eye forward and up in optimism.

I wouldn't like it at the equivalent points near each of the other three corners. Putting it at a point near (but not at) the lower right corner would still go forward, but dropping down.

Near (but not at) the left side, at row two, it would take the eye back and out of the picture, stopping the forward flow, and at row four near the left, the eye would go down as well as back, off the bottom of the page as well as off the side. .

This all relates to the eye movements trained into us as we learnt to read. We read from left to right. Also we raise our gaze when optimistic and drop it when sad. Many famous paintings can be "read" from left to right, and many "inspirational" scenes have lines which take the eyes up and to the right. (and hymns and psalms - "I to the hills will lift mine eyes" )

I only know of that picture because this museum exists. I would not know of it, nor suspect its existence, otherwise.

StarDreamer it was possibly/probably Mayim Bialik (Amy) herself, she is a Doctor of Philosophy in Neuroscience.
As an aside, this isn’t the only time Amy uses her neuroscience background on Sheldon, imo, she’s the best character in TBBT.

Re. the Paul Joseph Watson film; much against my will, as he is such a loathsome character, I found myself agreeing with some of what he said. It could be argued that PJW himself contributes to modern art as his ideas, articles, films, etc. so often subvert truth (amongst his other beliefs, he’s a huge believer in conspiracy theories).
Someone up-thread said art is subjective, and thank goodness for that. How boring if we all had works by the same artists on our walls or galleries only hung works by certain artists.

Re. the buttons; I would close my eyes and let the pink button drop onto the grid. Wherever it landed would be where I would place it. And the white buttons would be placed around the pink one, but piled on top of one another, thus leaving the majority of the grid bare. The pink button would thus be protected, as in my mind, it’s the beating heart of the whole piece.

I would choose the middle bottom, as it would look like a little pink face popping up.
Although when I doodle, I do very symmetrical patterns, with every single thing in place.
It's very important that it all lines up.

Right in the middle; it has to be, otherwise it wouldn't be neat and tidy!

Well, for me it would have to be lower left corner, because then it would be the origin of points on graph paper (x=0, y=0)

Or, upper left corner, because that would be the origin when doing computer artwork

Or middle top, as that would be stable.

NOT middle bottom, because that would be unstable and the whole thing would be wanting to rotate through 180 degrees so as to become stable.

If it were top row, one from the left corner, that would be alright because it would be as if a knight had moved from the centre.

But not any of the other knight moves from the centre.
