Virtual cruise from Venice along the river Po with the option to learn some Italian

The suggested format is that this is a discussion thread about the places along the route, links allowed, together with the option of synchronised learning of some of the Italian language using the free Duolingo language course. Sort of like a treasure hunt for information, yet no teams, people sharing what they find.

LINK > www.duolingo.com/courses

Participants using Duolingo will need to register, free, with Duolingo.

Registering with Duolingo does, by default, make one's profile public. On a computer, one can make it private by clicking on the blue disc at top right, choosing Settings, scrolling down and then choosing Privacy Settings, then unchecking the checkbox that is labelled Make my profile public.

Am I getting the feeling I am not welcome? That being vegan is a necessary condition of taking part in this cruise?
I don’t see Viking River Cruises, Saga cruises, Hurtigruten cruises or any RL holiday company getting away with that or are human rights suspended in a virtual situation?
Serious question. What price inclusivity ?

ixion Wed 10-Aug-22 19:14:07

I can't see anything in the introductory post which says anything about food at all, permitted or verboten.

Surely we don’t need another thread just to mention food ? Isn’t food an integral part of the culture ?

Chewbacca Wed 10-Aug-22 18:58:56

P.S. is there a lifeboat?

Only inflatable ones MissAdventure so we'll need someone who can blow plenty of air at short notice.

MissAdventure Wed 10-Aug-22 18:49:13

Everyone must enjoy our scintillating company, stardreamer wink
P.S. is there a lifeboat?

Well, as I wrote previously.

Yes, you can start a virtual cruise thread yourself, anybody can.

Good choice il treno. ?.
If it's Deutsche Bahn you're bound to arrive on time.

Joseanne wrote I guess the cruise people are just going to sail in to port.

Travelling by train. At present in Nuremberg.

MawtheMerrier Wed 10-Aug-22 16:30:34

Aren’t they sailing/training from Bamberg?

Joseanne Wed 10-Aug-22 16:27:26

I like dippy food, but I am am a bit scatter brained!
I can't eat brains. ?

Joseanne Wed 10-Aug-22 16:24:13

I'll see if I can get hold of Angela to pop along to cook for us one evening. Real Italian, down to earth stuff.

I just checked back on a thread on cookery books from ages ago, and I'm sure I posted the book she signed for me. Such a lovely donna. She spent a few minutes in stitches trying to pronounce and spell the "th" (eg. Edi^th^) in my name and had to give up.

Sorry, I digress. I'm currently working out how to get from Nantes to Venice on Friday. I thought about flying in, but the runway looks as bad as the one in Madeira. Anyone landed there? I guess the cruise people are just going to sail in to port. Or are they no longer allowed, wasn't there a crashed boat recently? Dangerous city Venice.

MissAdventure Wed 10-Aug-22 16:18:34

I don't eat fish.
Anything mozzarella is fine by me, though.

One of those links showed a lot of dippy type food.
I love that!

MawtheMerrier Wed 10-Aug-22 16:14:54

Balance in all things Joseanne smile

Joseanne Wed 10-Aug-22 16:08:07

Oooh nice choices there * MissAdventure*.

I don't think we need to get our mutandine in a nodo over the menu. I've been to Angela Hartnett's in Covent Garden and perfectly alongside the meat and fish choices are vegan options too. Keeps everyone happy.
Fusilli alla norma, ricotta salata (V)
Chocolate pot & hazelnut ice cream (V)
Buffalo mozzarella & figs (V)

MawtheMerrier Wed 10-Aug-22 16:05:41

Seeing a lot of seafood MissAdventure - now while that might make me very happy I’m not sure about the vegans….hmm

“When in Venice….” .as with “When in Rome” etc

ixion Wed 10-Aug-22 15:38:30

My mum used to do a smashing version - Fegato all'Inglese.
Braised with streaky bacon, onions and oodles of gravy.

(Standing by for my spelling and grammar guardians now?)
