I thought it might help motivate us all to do more in the way of exercise if we keep a running thread as a fitness log. We can use it to record any fitness activity we do, and encourage/applaud each others' efforts.

Any and all levels of fitness welcome - as are recommendations of good forms of exercise to take up.

I have high blood pressure, so I need to do more exercise and lose some weight (quite urgently).

Today I leapt out of bed - OK, I heaved myself out of bed - grin, got to the gym, did 30 minutes on the exercise bike and 30 minutes in the outdoor pool. The sun was shining, and, honestly, it was glorious. Not to mention how pleased I was with myself. smile

Just completed an hours keep fit to class to very lively 1960's music, cheered me up no end and I feel a lot more flexible ,might pull some weeds out of the garden (might) maybe not.

Opened my eyes!
Does that count?

Gally Mon 15-Apr-13 13:42:16

Galen grin
I have just swum 12 lengths at the local pool (taking it easy for the first outing). Kids have gone back to school today, or so I thought; the place was heaving with them all splashy and shouty and in the way'y so a bit difficult to swim in a stately manner confused

Hello everyone!

I just found this thread - great motivation and support grin

I went to the local gym this morning for a Zumba class. It's the first time I've been and have to say, not as bad as I thought it'd be...

TracySmith Wed 17-Apr-13 15:02:24

Although I was quite active on Monday, the rest of the week has been a lazy disaster. My exercise has consisted of walking up and down the stairs, opening and closing fridge doors and cleaning the house (not too much though smile)

How's everyone else doing?

I've been to my second Powerhoop class tonight. Such fun smile

Curves 3 times in last week plus countryside walks with DH between 40 and 90 minutes every day. For health reasons and to aid weight loss.

I am currently enjoying trying all the classes I fancy at the 3 local leisure centres, all within 15 minutes drive. Over the last 7 days I have done Zumba Gold (easy), Aqua Zumba (easy), Primetime (over 50s) indoor cycle (challenging) and Legs, Bums and Tums (just right).
Next I shall try Body Attack, which I used to do when fitter, as I think I can cope.

I usually try and walk at last 20mins a day but do not always manage it. I read that 2000 steps = 100 calories lost

Flowerofthewest Tue 30-Apr-13 23:12:10

walked for 50 minutes this evening (briskly) 30 mins gardening and 2 hours clearing bedroom and vacuum packing 'stuff' hope that counts as knackered.

2 hrs in bond street shopping tonight, lost 127 poundsgrin

cathy Wed 01-May-13 11:05:27

It think shopping in Bond street probably takes the prize for the best kind of exercise, personally I love the park, especially when the grass is healthy and is lovely and greensmile

cathy Wed 01-May-13 11:06:54

Bond Street is over priced and full of celebs that think they should be bowed to, can't be doing with that nonsense, but my husband on the other hand would love it.

hour walk along river in Thetford today in beautiful sunshine then on to Lakenheath RSPB reserve for another hour long walk. mmmmmmmmmmmm lovely day.

Galen Wed 01-May-13 22:31:47

200yard walk in Bristol! First time I've walked that far for ages. Can't weightbear now though!

Giginanna Wed 01-May-13 22:48:16

Seems to me this is possibly one of the most neglected forums on gransnet and yet probably one of the most important! We may be great at wagging our tongues..but just how good are we at supporting each other wagging our tail feathers?

Did an hour's Pilates class this morning, then worked in the garden from 11 until 5. Absolutely cream crackered so lay on sofa after dinner, eating chocolate and cheese. The toe that I broke 5 weeks ago is now officially really hurting. Intend to take it easy tomorrow

cathy Thu 02-May-13 00:14:21

vega how did you break your toe, your garden must be lovely putting all those hours into itsmile

vegasmags Thu 02-May-13 09:43:10

Cathy you wouldn't believe it! I was in the supermarket, with just a few things in a basket and was rounding the aisle when a yong woman, with a huge trolley and toddler, ran into my foot Feeling some resistance, she just shoved hard and hence the broken toe. To add insult to injury, as I cried out in pain, she just waved me aside impatiently as if to say - get out of my way, you irritating old woman! At the time, I thought it was possibly going to be just a bad bruise, but the next morning revealed that it was indeed a fracture.

Yes, the garden is looking lovely - May is my favourite month in the garden with everything looking so fresh and new smile

Bags Thu 02-May-13 10:01:32

vegas shock How shocking!

vegasmags Thu 02-May-13 10:13:27

Thanks Bags it was pretty awful behaviour. Every time I go to Tesco, I find myself looking out for that young woman to give her a piece of my mind - where's the dragon emoticon when you need it?

cathy Thu 02-May-13 18:44:12

Wow vegasm that's terrible, my husband hates being near trolleys, he is always waiting for someone to do that to him, that must have hurt and how horrid of her not to help you.

I am starting on my garden, looking forward to getting it nice for summersmile

vegasmags Thu 02-May-13 19:15:58

Yes Cathy - your husband has the right idea! I'm sure if I'd been older and more frail she would have knocked me flying - I proceed with caution now.

Elegran Thu 02-May-13 20:15:26

It seems to me that in that situation the thing to do is to fall over anyway - taking care not to do any more damage! - and make a lot of fuss about it.
Being stoical and suffering in (almost) silence means that no-one was aware that you were seriously hurt, including her, so she will not learn to take care.

You also had a case for sueing her and having witnesses who saw your distress would have been good. Even better would have been an immediate X-ray and diagnosis. She was driving without care and attention, and the fact that she was driving a trolley, not a car, does not excuse her.

one and half hour country walk (brisk) with DDH. It has become a habit now (2 weeks to develop a habit) and we feel we just HAVE to go out and walk. My lovely GP told us today that exercise benefits for the 15 hours afterwards so to add on a further 25 mins exercise during the day to top it up. Very beneficial for healthy body. Will take his advice.
