Good morning! Standing in for glass who's on holiday in Cornwall. I just looked at the weather forcast down there. Moist hmm I hope she not tempted too much by the warmth and shelter of cornish pasty shops!
Still no sign of summer but at least the last of the hosepipe bans have now been lifted and we're saving a fortune on sun lotion smile
Good luck everyone!

Found it, thought it would be under 'messages' but all it says is that I have done things like excercise and how many calories I have eaten. I still have 928 to go today!

jeni Wed 11-Jul-12 17:44:40

Who's a clever girl then.
Nice argument starting on prison thread!

AlisonMA Wed 11-Jul-12 17:50:35

Yes, Jeni just looked and added my little comment!

I'm not really clever jeni this is the way I normally eat or I would be huge, think it is hypothyroidism.

I,m not sure this app is foolproof- it's given me 16 g of sugar for a pear and 0 g for a nectarine. Yesterday I had the same problem with the sodium amounts in slices of bread?

whenim64 Wed 11-Jul-12 21:56:00

That's probably why it's free Grannylin. We'll find out soon enough if we all put half a stone on next week! grin

jeni Wed 11-Jul-12 21:56:15

I think it overestimates the sugar content.

Sewsilver Wed 11-Jul-12 23:54:05

I think it overestimates the amount I eat.

Does anyone actually measure the quantity of wine that you pour into the glass in the evenings? I am beginning to think I should - this magic app asks you whether you have 125ml or 250ml and I have no idea. Don't really want to buy a special measure as that seems a bit OTT but feel I should be more concious of the amount in the glass!

AlisonMA Thu 12-Jul-12 14:21:47

yoga 125 ml is the size a glass of wine was a very long time ago, nowadays it is always at least 250 ml. I hope that helps.

Notsogrand Thu 12-Jul-12 14:40:40

Wine glasses have got much bigger haven't they? After some gentle nagging from DD2, I bought some old fashioned smaller wine glasses from a charity shop. They hold the same amount as a standard pub measure....not much! They are re-fillable though. smile

I'm still sticking with the app even though as jeni says, it's not foolproof. I'm focusing mainly on total calories and not getting too hung up on the breakdown into carbs, etc etc. I finished yesterday having consumed 6 calories more than they recommended....I find it's a good way of being disciplined about what you eat.

notso I'm the same. Years ago oh and I went to a wine festival and were given a glass each that was marked with the 25cl! I still have both of them and am using them while calorie counting

Notsogrand Sat 14-Jul-12 13:43:32

Has everyone continued using the My Fitness Pal app/site this week? I've become quite addicted!

I find it really helps me to be focused (and honest!) about what I'm eating, but the proof of the pudding will be at the next weigh-in!

Enjoy the rest of the week-end everyone smile

jeni Sat 14-Jul-12 13:47:57

Ditto

whenim64 Sat 14-Jul-12 14:36:09

Yes, I have Notso and my eating habits are changing - substituting things like agave nectar to sweeten my morning porridge - a tiny amount is all I need, and fresh fruit like bananas and strawberries instead of dried fruit. Eating more veg, keep getting told I'm not having enough carbs and fat! My calorie intake has reduced day by day and I had 1400 calories yesterday. I now realise that my sugar intake was too high, despite being really careful - today I will be under the limit on sugar for the first time. Feeling more energetic.

Looks like I have lost at least 2 lbs in this last few days - will report in on Monday.

AlisonMA Sat 14-Jul-12 15:17:23

I'm still doing it but am not bothering with things like adding housework as an excercise, just things that are sort of extra. Also can't be bothered to add 4/5 cups of coffee per day as there is only a little milk and that is semi skimmed.

I am however erring on the heavy side when guessing the weight of things so am not giving myself any leeway at all. I am rather bothered that I am being so good and still not really losing weight though. I'll keep it up until I go on holiday and see how I feel about it when I return.

jeni Sat 14-Jul-12 15:35:45

What has it said is your calorie allowance?

AlisonMA Sat 14-Jul-12 15:49:13

1200 but then it puts it up if I add excercise. What is yours? I wonder if we are all the same.

jeni Sat 14-Jul-12 16:05:55

That's what I was wondering? Mine says 1200. I'm 5' 7" and 13 3

whenim64 Sat 14-Jul-12 16:09:41

You can adjust your calorie allowance and it tells you how much you can expect to lose if you stick to that amount for the next 5 weeks.

jeni Sat 14-Jul-12 16:29:01

I wish you could change to lbs and stones!

Notsogrand Sat 14-Jul-12 16:33:17

The calorie allowance seems to be based not only on your height & weight, but on how much you said you wanted to lose each week. I'm a bit taller and a good bit heavier than you jeni, I set my weight loss at 1-2lbs a week and have a daily calorie allowance of 1320 with more added if I exercise.

I'm not getting too hung up about whether I'm sticking to the numbers in all the separate categories, but I'm making sure I don't go over the total calories.

Like you when, I've changed a lot of eating habits. I only have 1 coffee with my breakfast now and drink green tea during the rest of the day. I use Truvia anyway for sweetening cereal etc, which has no calories. I always used to eat loads of Extra Strong Mints when driving (a habit picked up when I stopped smoking), but I'm limiting them now as each mint has to be entered in the food diary.

whenim64 Sat 14-Jul-12 16:39:31

You can change to lbs and stones, jeni. Just tap on that section in your profile and you can adjust it.

jeni Sat 14-Jul-12 16:46:51

Not in the iPad one.

whenim64 Sat 14-Jul-12 17:01:19

I'm writing on an iPad, jeni and my profile is in stones and lbs. you tap on the bit where you edit your profile and you can choose lbs or kilos.

whenim64 Sat 14-Jul-12 17:08:20

jeni if you go into the 'more' section to the bottom of the home page, you'll see 'edit profile' and when you go right down you'll find 'preferences' where you can choose under 'unit preferences.' Hope that works! smile
