Good morning everyone, been a bit hectic here this morning with first day back at school, so I am late putting this thread up.

Happy New Year to you all I hope you are all in the right place to start our New Year challenge, mine starts tomorrow with 1st weigh in then the work starts.

After eating (in the past week) the majority of a large Christmas cake, piles of crisps and Pringles, an enormous box of Thorntons' chocolates, etc, etc, etc blush I'm joining you again today.
I've put on half-a-stone in the last couple of months or so and this must be got rid of - and more if possible.
Good luck everyone - I'm definitely going to need it!

Tegan Mon 06-Jan-14 11:45:56

I daren't get on the scales today but I was 1/2 st heavier last time I weighed myself. But I am going to the gym today [honest!] and I feel that Christmas is now behind me [just going to take the tree down]. It could be worse. I've often found myself not putting weight on over Christmas but then picking at food I don't usually eat during January and then piling the weight on. I used to have lots of boxes of chocolate given to me when I was at work and there was always some left over into January.

Notso Mon 06-Jan-14 12:40:54

It wasn't just Christmas that did it for me....I've been piling weight back on for the past few months....so time to stop the slide!

I've been really looking forward to starting back on a weight loss routine from today. I'm going to do Atkins for 2 weeks to give myself a kick-start, then back to calorie counting. Plus a bit more exercise of course!

Good luck everyone!

I was up 3.5llbs at WW this morning. But I am back On It now and trying the new Simple Start plan.

Tegan Mon 06-Jan-14 18:32:24

Ate really healthily today [didn't calorie count at all]. Bought some dumbells and a resistance band from the supermarket [not sure what to do with the latter but it was on offer]. Went to the gym and exercised for over an hour. Bought some food for when I start the 5:2 diet [Ryvita and cottage cheese; can't be doing with cooking anything or weighing things]. Foot hurts but seeing the Dr tomorrow. Not going to weigh myself till next week or it might throw me into a biscuit eating frame of mind. Saw an exercise bike on offer the other day; might send away for it as probably can't afford to renew my gym membership in July and may not need to anyway if I can make more sense of Michael Moselys exercise book.

Just for you , Tegan (I bought a set of yellow red and green bands to exercise my shoulder)

Oooh; I like the sound of the 'dynamic hug' !!

Elegran Mon 06-Jan-14 19:16:30

Haven't tried that one. I am still working on my shoulder.

OK . Have just had the first official 2014 weigh in . Obviously it is the most I have weighed for about a year , but in perspective I am currently 59.7 kg and I want to be 58 kg , so I need to lose 4 lbs again (the same old 4 lbs !) It really cannot be impossible to achieve. Tegan, you are so right about the eating pattern. I never have that much trouble at Christmas itself , it is always the week or so afterwards. Anyway - new year , new start !

Tegan Tue 07-Jan-14 10:10:32

It's as if, having given myself 'permission' to eat more at Christmas I just keep on doing it sad.

ginny Tue 07-Jan-14 10:59:48

I have put on 2 1/2 lbs over Christmas. Back on to health eating today so fingers crossed for net weigh in. Good luck everyone.

Good evening Ladies, can I join your weigh in. I have slowly put on nearly 3/4 of a stone over the last 3 years, since I gave up smoking actually, no mean feat after smoking the dreaded weed for over 50 years. Now, although I am not actually over weight by very much, I feel it, gone from a size 12/14 to 14/16 and I hate it. I cannot stop nibbling in the evenings, boredom, comfort eating, you know what I mean. So, I am going to try the 5-2 diet but am dreading the 500 calorie days, don't think I have the will power to do it. Any advice would be appreciated.

glassortwo Tue 07-Jan-14 20:34:13

Hi caz we would love you to join us, we all follow our own plan be it watching calories, 5:2, weight watchers, Slimming world whatever you want.

I start the thread ready for a Monday but as we all have different weigh in days it runs to the following Sunday. You can use the thread in anyway you want post any recipes you have made or enjoy, use it to shout from the roof tops when you lose or come on to get the help of other posters if you have had a gain.

I want to put this in writing I have been and weighed in at Slimming World after months and want to say I got a fright, should have know by my clothes so watch this space its going to change!!!!

Tegan Tue 07-Jan-14 20:36:50

Why does it go on so much quicker than it comes off?

glassortwo Tue 07-Jan-14 20:44:16

I dont know tegan but pity it wasnt so easy to get off.

Tegan Tue 07-Jan-14 20:50:23

Today I've just had 4 ryvita with two boiled eggs mixed with mayonnaise [which is my downfall at the moment] and lots of cups of tea and coffee. I'm keeping really busy and planning to go to the gym again tomorrow. I can't plan meals; 500 cal days will have to be ryvita and something [there's something quite satisfying about ryvita cause they take a lot of chewing and they come in lots of nice flavours these days]. And the eggs, being protein are quite filling. Have bought some low calorie mayonnaise which should help.

Notso Tue 07-Jan-14 21:59:17

I've completed 2 days on Atkins and it's been OK. I haven't felt hungry, but I do miss the carbs. I haven't exercised since early December, but did 2 miles nordic walking this afternoon. I was the last to arrive back at base, but at least I did it. I need to lose about 4/5 stones in total, but it's do-able smile

Tegan Tue 07-Jan-14 22:42:33

The Atkins diet is a good one to shrink your tummy back to pre Christmas proportions. I reckon that carbs are addictive [like cheese sad].

cazthebookworm Wed 08-Jan-14 13:20:42

Did you visit the gym Tegan? I did my usual Wednesday walk with our local Age UK group this morning, a lovely day for it but more rain forecast for later. Your Ryvita and "something" could possibly include tuna if you like it, or may be a low fat spread. I am off to stock up on Ryvita and cottage cheese and some celery and carrots! Full of good intentions but wonder how long it will last!! I chew chewing gum at home in the evenings, seems to help a bit and stops me raiding the cupboards which are now empty of all temptations.
