I walk twice a day, not because I'm virtuous but because of the dogs. One outing I listen to women's hour podcast and the second one catch up with the archers. The time and distance just flies by.

The 1000 mile challenge is sold out, if I have the correct link. Anyone else have this Problem?

Could someone tell me which 1000 walk challenge it is, there are so many, and what the cause is for. I love walking so really up for it. Thanks.

I've activated an app now that comes with my phone that tracks steps, checks my heart rate, and my sleep! Daughter showed me how it works smile

Grannyknot Sun 01-Jan-17 17:08:57

Meant to add ... and so I did my target today of 6000 steps. Baby steps!

I have used my Fitbit since I was bought it last May. I find it not so accurate regarding cals in/out but it probably is accurate re steps taken in a day. No faff at all, I've found.

Managed 3 miles today which I wouldn't have done otherwise as it was pouring with rain!

I walked 2402 miles in 2016 (and some more when I broke my fitbit but the new one hadn't arrived)

I have found many benefits - health, saving the planet/money by not driving/social

LottieSweetpea Mon 02-Jan-17 10:29:37

Amazing Cari!
I try to do 10,000 steps a day but don't always make it
It means a special effort and leaving car at home but I do feel better when I do

I try to do 8 - 10,000 steps a day. I am going to take on the 'boots on' 1,000 mile 2017 challenge so this will be in addition to trying to achieve my daily steps..... Mr jg and I have started today, a beautiful day to begin something new??

I spend 2-3 days a week travelling to see my mum and sitting with her (5 hours+ all in) so this will certainly be a challenge for me. Good luck everyone ?

I walk every day, with our dog, but only for about an hour at the most, maybe a mile or 2. But we must keep going - if we don't use it we lose it.

hildajenniJ Mon 02-Jan-17 14:24:53

I started my daily walk yesterday. I'm starting slowly and building up. I'm off for today's walk shortly. I might take a camera with me today, and see if there is anything interesting to photograph. I might post later if there is.

This is where I went. The footpaths around town were icy and slippery so I went down by the Tyne. This is where the Haltwhistle burn meets the South Tyne. I didn't walk as far as I wanted to.

I joined yesterday and went out for a walk which I probably wouldn't have done normally because the weather was horrible. I must admit I've never been that keen on walking even when we did a lot, so it's good to have an incentive to do some.

I haven't found the cheap Daffodil pedometers I use to be rubbish, shysal, though I can't speak for other brands. These seem to measure everything the 3 axes offers and none of them have stopped working. I've only had 4 because I've put two of them through a full wash and thrown another in the bin by accident blush. And I've only had to replace one battery. This over the course of about fifteen years.

Thanks for the photo hildajenniJ

Lovely photo hilda. It was pretty icy and slippy underfoot here in North Shropshire this morning❄️❄️ We started walking on the road but soon diverted to the fields and woods to prevent possible injury to the nether regions ? Mind you - after 15 stiles I was done in !!! A photo is attached ...

I walk most days about 6km, more or less. Sometimes alone, sometimes with a friend and her dog. It's been about 10 years now, and am sure it's gone a very long way to keeping me fit.
I don't have a Fitbit or pedometer. I don't think it really matters how far one walks, as long as it's done often and with enjoyment.
Just #lovewalking

Sorry * maggiemaybe*, I shouldn't have judged all cheap pedometers! The Daffodil looks a bit more sophisticated than the ones I have tried, which miss steps all the time. I am a bit OCD and count my strides quite often to test mine which is always dead accurate.
My Tanita has been in the washing machine a few times too. I take out the battery, allow it to dry in a warm place and off it goes again, doesn't even lose its memory! The personal alarm sounds while it is washing!

Easier if you don't live up a mountain grin
