I have no idea about specific food triggers in my case BB; since diagnosis I've had turkey each Christmas without a backlash (I think), so I'm keeping my gnarled fingers crossed for this year too!
Have a happy time one & all tchsmile

Happy New Year everyone.

Happy New Year everyone.
I haven't posted much but am quite proud of my progress so here is an update.
I saw my GP for a diabetes (type2) check up last May and results were disappointing, weight up, HBA1C up, cholesterol up, medication increased. I stopped playing about with low carb dieting and started to take it seriously, and had another check up on November. Results, 6 kg lost, BMI 21.36. HBA1C 6.5 %, cholesterol 2.6.
Doctor was pleased but said he wouldn't reduce medication unless HBA1C is below 6, so I am now working towards that goal when I have my check up in May. I did lapse a little over the Christmas period but am now back on track, spent this morning cooking low carb meals and treats for fridge and freezer.

Well done singlegrannie and keep up the good work. It definitely worked for me. Happy New Year to everyone.

Mamie Tue 09-Jan-18 19:24:57

Well done singlegrannie and Happy New Year to all. We had wet and windy weather throughout the festive season and a distinct lack of exercise, but getting back to normal here now. ?

Hi everyone, Just popping back in as after tomorrow, DH's birthday supper, we will be firmly back in the low carb camp. Having to follow a gluten free diet now has made it easier not to be tempted by bread!!

I watched Tom Kerridge's programme last week and was ever so slightly cross! He lost shed loads of weight on a very low carb diet as well as giving up alcohol but this series is promoting a low calorie diet which he definitely did not follow himself.

It's very similar to the Hairy Dieter's weight loss programme which they did themselves along with other dieters. Why on earth was TK showing us how to make low cal muffins? Just don't eat muffins FGS.

We all know sweetener is full of chemicals and low cal products contain sugar so it seems to be a case of 'Do as I say and not as I do!'!

Sorry for the rant. grin

Lazigirl Tue 09-Jan-18 20:13:51

I thought that too Merlot. Very disappointing.

BBbevan Tue 09-Jan-18 20:44:21

Glad everyone is well. DH and other members of the family have had bad colds since Christmas. I am fine though .
I have tried to stay low carb over the holidays but slipped up a few times.
I was cross about TK too. I suppose that is were the money is.
Keep at it singlegrannie it works very well for me.

Just wondered how everyone getting on in this cold weather. Very tempting to fill up with stodgy stuff to keep warm. We have delicious hot cross buns from M&S, and lots of other goodies (for visitors) but am managing to keep to within couple of pounds of desired weight so far, but lack of exercise main problem. How are things in France Mamie?

BBbevan Fri 02-Mar-18 13:00:34

We are very cold here in West Wales , so looking forward to getting out again soon. Haven't put on any weight and now do 16:8 weekdays. Seems to be working as BS is now 5.4
Steak and veg for dinner tonight. Hope you are all well xxxxx

Lazigirl Fri 02-Mar-18 13:12:52

That is so good BB. We are cold and snowed in here in Shropshire too so wasting my time on Internet instead of useful stuff like cleaning cupboards etc grin

BBbevan Fri 02-Mar-18 13:36:56

I am knitting Christmas wreaths for next Christmas. A friend wants some to sell. I could Hoover upstairs ,but it can wait. Have you managed to solve the problem of moving your DH Lazigirl ?

Lazigirl Fri 02-Mar-18 15:34:32

Do you mean Luckygirl BB?

BBbevan Fri 02-Mar-18 15:41:10

Oh, sorry Yes I do

Mamie Thu 29-Mar-18 17:02:34

Replying to Lazigirl a month late!
We have had a long, cold, wet and windy spring in northern France. The garden is horribly late and the skies are grey.
We have been finishing off the winter food from the freezer, so lamb shanks, oxtail and casseroles have been our staple diet. We are meeting the family in the Nord (Pas de Calais) for Easter and will indulge in something exquisite in chocolate from the patisserie on Sunday.
I am longing for the first barbecue.

BBbevan Thu 29-Mar-18 17:59:29

Cold here in SW Wales but a little drier. We are waiting for better weather to lay a new lawn. Otherwise still doing low carb and sustaining weight loss. Can't wait for a bit of sun and warmth. Hope everyone is well and happy. Happy Easter.???

BBbevan Fri 20-Apr-18 04:14:31

How is everyone?
We have had some lovely warm days here so we have been gardening non-stop for a few days. The strawberry patch was a sea of celandines and has taken me three days to weed. Still we should have lovely strawberries to look forward to.
Made a lovely rhubarb fool yesterday. We had lemon chicken with green beans. It was a nice change to have a pudding midweek.

Mamie Fri 20-Apr-18 05:03:42

All fine here BB but ridiculously hot. It was 27° yesterday and after mowing, weeding and strimming all morning I had to stay inside for the afternoon. We have had a few barbecues, monkfish wrapped in bacon with salad, swordfish with greek salad and merguez sausages with last year’s ratatouille from the freezer. I often do avocado with shrimps for lunch but yesterday I tried it with chopped egg and tomato in mayo filling, which was lovely and the filling gave me a Proustian moment of childhood picnics. ?
I put on 2lbs over the winter and ai hope it should start coming off now, though fluid retention always hits in hot weather.

PoshGran Fri 20-Apr-18 09:46:43

Hi everyone!
Just psyching up to attempt first lawn-taming of the year - it needs strimming before mowing it's so long!!
Lo-carb continues; feel so much better in myself & I don't worry about a couple of days of being "diet naughty" (my recent birthday celebration included a mid-week hotel break with a fabulous meal & superwine).
Now approaching 2 stone loss since last Sept, slow & steady works for me. Gout is quiet at moment arthritis grumbles at times - but I'm doing a Race for Life 5k in June - well, walking it, as knee will not permit jogging.
Bought a couple of cheap & cheerful summer dresses yesterday, oh, you do have legs! said OH, 2 sizes smaller than last.
Salmon, asparagus & carrot matchsticks for meal tonight after gardening duty.
Happy days sunshine all.

BBbevan Fri 20-Apr-18 12:53:34

Super news Poshgran well done ????

Singlegrannie Sat 21-Apr-18 09:41:48

Hello everyone, hope you are all doing well.
I am carrying on with low carb, my bmi has stabilised at about 22, and some days I allow myself a little leeway, maybe a small helping of reheated ( hopefully starch resistant) potato or a slice of bread. I have a check up with the diabetes nurse next month but I am told that a blood test won't be taken this time. I am disappointed, don't see how I can monitor my progress without known my HbA1c. Sure I had one this time last year !

Lazigirl Tue 01-May-18 20:40:52

Glad everyone doing so well. I think winter is the most difficult to keep carb comfort foods at bay, so hopefully there will be more salad type days soon. The weather is weird, really warm for a few days, then wet and cold, and this morning frost on my car. I am a couple of pounds up and do need to be a bit more strict and do more walking. I never ever want to get back into diabetes zone.

Singlegrannie Mon 14-May-18 14:36:17

Well I persuaded the nurse to let me have another HBA1c test, got results today. 6.5, same as six months ago. I was hoping for another drop but will try even harder !!

Mamie Mon 14-May-18 17:33:44

Never mind Singlegrannie, at least it hasn't gone up. ?
Just had Ottolenghi's smokey cauliflower frittata which was delicious.

shysal Sat 09-Jun-18 11:28:39

Great to read that everyone is doing so well! I have been making the keto breads from the Diet Doctor website, which are delicious. I am needing to buy more Psyllium husk powder to replace the Holland and Barrett one that I have been using. Can anyone recommend a brand that doesn't produce purple-tinged bread?smile

My blood glucose has gone down from 6 to 4.6, using my home tester, which is very pleasing.
