Tell us how you are getting on

NannyJan53 Tue 02-Jan-18 08:03:26

Happy New Year everyone

I am going to try this as from today. I only need to lose about 6/7 pounds and have been trying for last 3 months...but only manage 1 or 2 then I stick.

I used to be able to lose 7lbs in a few weeks quite easily.

Will report back in a week! smile

J52 Tue 02-Jan-18 08:10:39

I think NYE was my undoing!
I’m strictly back on 16:8 from today!
I hope you achieve your target nannyjan53.

Jane10 Tue 02-Jan-18 09:03:50

I'm still happily eating for Britain! Or at least it feels like it. I'll go back to 16:8 proper next Monday. I'm still not eating as much as I used to though.

Nannylovesshopping Tue 02-Jan-18 09:20:46

Me too jane10 too many scrummy things still about, shall be ruthless and get rid of them, then shall get back to the 16:8 am feeling proper chunky and not liking it

NannyJan53 Tue 02-Jan-18 10:35:38

Thank you J52 it is 10.30am and feeling peckish now....only 1 1/2 hours to go smile

Marelli Tue 02-Jan-18 10:42:51

I’m going to join you all in this. I’ve been letting myself go (as my mother would say), and kidding myself that I was becoming voluptuous rather than FAT!
I shall begin with my bowl of AllBran with sultanas at midday (very good for one’s ‘output’...). ?

Wheniwasyourage Tue 02-Jan-18 14:11:45

Happy New Year to all! It would be a waste not to eat up all the left-overs and spare chocolates so I'm not starting again for a day or two. However, it's not as daunting to look forward to as the 5:2, so that's good.

midgey Tue 02-Jan-18 17:18:14

I have been ——- hoovering—- eating anything in site but only within the eight hours, it still seems to be working

midgey Tue 02-Jan-18 17:20:05

Well I have been eating everything on site as well as in sight! Apologies for not checking.

I lost 5lbs in a few weeks before the new year, but put on 3lbs over the holiday (grr). Now back on track and it seems to be working well. (So much easier than 5:2). Good luck to all and just hang on in. ?

Jane10 Sat 06-Jan-18 22:26:07

Tomorrow will be my last day of gorging er helping to finish up the odds and ends left over from a food packed season. Back to 16:8 on Monday but not bothered as I know its very doable.

Marelli Sun 07-Jan-18 09:55:29

I’m really glad to have found this thread. I started on Tues and have found it very doable! I won’t be weighing myself as I look on scales as a gift from Satan, and as soon as I start weighing myself I know from past experience that I’ll give up due to fluctuating weights.
Within the first couple of days on the 16.8 my jeans felt looser and I wasn’t having the usual indigestion.
I tried the 5.2, but it wasn’t for me, because once I got settled into the way of it I started to overeat on the non-fast days.
By having a ‘window’ of 8 hours it’s not so tempting to reach for cake, biscuits etc as I’m eating normal meals within that time and not ‘peckish’.
Thankyou, Jane10. ☺️

I did this diet a few months ago and lost ten pounds. I found it quite easy but I've been binging over the holidays and nothing fits anymore so tomorrow back to the diet again.

Maimeo Wed 10-Jan-18 08:22:26

I’m on my third day back on 16/8 after losing it over Christmas, but boy, it’s so hard. I’m at work now for last hour, 3 to go before I can eat, and I’m STARVING!! I read this thread regularly and I’m envious of all you grans who say how easy it is..... I find the evenings hard too?. But I agree it’s still the most doable diet/eating plan for me, and I do feel less bloated and healthier ?

MamaCaz Wed 10-Jan-18 08:39:08

I'm on this now too. I'm not overweight, but really can't ignore the 3lbs I put on over Christmas.

I've done this before to keep control of my weight and find it very easy to skip my breakfast. When I do have breakfast I am soon hungry again and turn to a biscuit (or 3) mid morning, yet if I skip it, I don't get hungry till midday. However, I do sort of cheat, as I drink my usual amount of tea at breakfast time. If I drank it black it would be ok, but I take milk, which stricktly-speaking counts as a food!

The evenings are hardest for me. Even if I am not hungry, I find it a struggle not to nibble. However, I will stick it out.

Jane10 Wed 10-Jan-18 17:28:42

I happily have 2 mugs of coffee with milk at breakfast time. I do miss actual breakfast but know it's just a habit. I enjoyed having some toast and cheese for breakfast over the festive season but gave gone back to missing it out quite easily. I accidentally did 17:7 yesterday. Just not hungry at lunchtime. I'm pretty relaxed about it. I eat what I like in my 8 hours. No fussing with calorie counting and it works fine. I might lose more quickly if I did but I like my food and treats and life's more interesting that way. The flab evaporates in time. Or at least it did before Christmas!! Fingers crossed it still will now.

The above website gives a good reminder of the benefits of 16:8.
Although I kept to my 8 hour window for eating ( 1pm to 9pm) over Christmas I did relax and have chocs, wine, and other festive goodies. It didn't seem to make any difference to my weight loss. I've been behaving since and when weighed by my doctor recently she said " My! You HAVE lost weight"
MARELLI. I don't like scales either and am easily discouraged by the numbers. Although I liked my doctors comment she let slip how much I still weigh so my spirits sunk somewhat. However - I shall keep going. I so want to be slim.

MamaCaz Fri 12-Jan-18 17:27:20

One thing to remember when weighing yourself is that your salt intake the day before can make a significant difference - if I have eaten something such as gammon the night before, my weight the next morning will be up. In my case, this is predictable enough for me to put it down to water retention resulting from a higher than normsl salt intake. I am not overweight, so I am not looking for excuses - it just happens to be something I have noticed over the years and something to bear in mind when you experience daily fluctuations in your weight!

Jane10 Fri 12-Jan-18 18:19:51

I have certainly noticed that too*MamaCaz*!

J52 Mon 15-Jan-18 11:19:01

Avoiding the scales, but I’ve just tried on a closely fitted dress from a coup,e of years back and it looks good. No bumps and bulges!
It all seems to be going well.
Hope it’s working for you all, as well.

GrannyEggy1 Mon 15-Jan-18 11:30:14

Will join you all if I may. Am back on Gransnet after a few years absence, with a different username and carrying ten more pounds- being off Gransnet must be fattening shock

Marelli Mon 15-Jan-18 11:35:58

I’m finding this way of eating really very easy. I know I’ve lost weight, though will not be weighing myself, just going by how my clothes are fitting.

Welshwife Mon 15-Jan-18 12:09:31

This is such a good thread now with everyone being so positive. I am still going on with this pattern of eating and I managed to continue in the main over the Christmas period when we were staying in U.K. with family. I think I was well into the pattern of eating and just found it easy to continue.
I am eating very little in the way of chocolate or biscuits etc. The other change though is that we try and eat our main meal at lunch time as much as we can. Often then I eat next to nothing in the evening.
We got back home over the weekend and today I got on the scales - but later than usual and I was fully clothed instead of just a nightie -down almost 2 lbs and I was not trying -I would have expected to remain the same or gain over Christmas.
Like others have said I am finding it difficult to eat the old portion size and even had difficulty eating a whole meal if we went out to eat. I too will carry on - maybe the new trousers I bought last year without trying them on will fit me this coming summer!!

Marelli Tue 16-Jan-18 12:23:08

Welshwife, same for me regarding biscuits, chocolate, etc. Before, I would go to the tin and eat one choc biscuit while I waited for the kettle to boil, then wandered innocently back into the living room with my cuppa and another biscuit..... ?!
Tend to have cereal at about 11, then a light lunch at 1 - 1.30. Main meal about 5 and maybe a bit of cake or shortbread just before 7.
My knees aren’t paining me the same so hopefully it’s weight loss that’s helping (and not using my usual excuse of the weather)!

hulahoop Tue 16-Jan-18 14:50:12

Have lost a 1lb since Christmas must admit to still finishing off chocs etc . Only thing I have found myself feeling a bit light headed some mornings has anyone else noticed this ?
