Frugal February

Anyone like to join me in this?

You can set your own ‘frugal’ guidelines but the aim is to eat and drink in a more restrained (and healthy) manner that usual just for 28 days.

I did this last year and lost those few extra pounds that nobody wants. For those who have more than a few pounds to shift it can kick start a real weight loss plan for 2018.

It can be combined with 16:8 and any other ‘diets’ you are following.

So, anyone out there want to join in for 28 days and we’ll share ideas and support each other? ?

I would love to join Frugal Feb. Problem is I've just opened a box of Waitrose chocolate biscuits that didn't get used at Christmas, so I couldn't possibly eat them all in 5 days - or maybe I could make an effort..!!

ethel I hope you get well soon - but not feeling like eating could be a bonus too even though it doesn't feel like it at the time.

Yes, Old Meg, I'll join you. I've recently put on half a stone (comfort eating plus the Coop having Twirls at £1 blush) and have just managed to lose couple of those pounds so mutual support from Gransnetters will be a great incentive to continue combined with my annual cutting down in Lent (begins on 14 February). Slimmed down Easter and another significant birthday here I come!! smile

HootyMcOwlface Fri 26-Jan-18 20:15:41

Well I have been cutting down and doing the 16:8 (or rather 18:6 as I got muddled!) for a couple of months now. Got on the scales to see how much I have lost, to see ..... Nothing! Not an ounce. So disappointed! Frugal February can go .. (Something beginning with f!) itself.?

farview Fri 26-Jan-18 20:31:02

Hooty needed that!! so funny? seriously though need to gain weight ..not lose..having lost 3st5lb for no reason..would rather be curvy!!

I would love to join you all. I need to lose a bit of weight.

OldMeg Fri 26-Jan-18 22:52:15

Looks like we have a goodly gathering of grans ready for the challenge. I’ve just had a look on my calendar (one of those quaint things you hang on the wall and write real words on) and I have a dental appointment to have a crown replaced 10.30 am on February 1st.

That’s going to make Day 1 really easy.

One more on board. Been lolling around the house for a fortnight and just nibbling all the time. Back to work on Monday so that will help. Had a laugh at hearty chicken stew from leftover chicken. What leftover chicken ?, they’re the size of sparrows here ?. As for butter vs marg. Margarine is only one molecule away from plastic and not even mould will grow on it, so we eat butter ( my excuse). Those with goodies left over will just have to snaffle what they can before Thursday ?

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 27-Jan-18 04:16:57

I'll join in too. I'm away for 5 days in February, but I'll be frugal the rest of the month. I need a challenge. ?

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 27-Jan-18 04:24:44

5 days until February.
5 days to indulge.
5 days to prepare.

I'll be doing LCHF and 16:8. ✍️

I have been frugal with both food and money in January to make up for Christmas - which was frugal-ish anyway as my DH has been made redundant. We managed to get to the end of the month without going into the red on the current account and I have had two Digestives for breakfast and two Weetabix for lunch which cost next to nothing in cash and calories.

Good luck with Frugal February though.

OldMeg Sat 27-Jan-18 08:03:28

Wilma we can all do ‘our own thing’ - that is our own preferred way of losing weight, and we’ll all be in it together.

The thing is, we all know what we should (positive) and shouldn’t (negative) eat so we’ll try to do just that for 28 days.

One thing I’ve decided is that I won’t buy any cake, biscuits, chocolate, etc but if I want a ‘treat’ I’ll have to bake it myself.

And we can share ideas and tips.

OldMeg Sat 27-Jan-18 08:04:44

Well done Lily but so sorry to hear about your DH’s redundancy. Hope he finds something soon x

whitewave Sat 27-Jan-18 08:09:18

Cheap healthy and low calorie recipies are always welcome of course.

OldMeg Sat 27-Jan-18 08:17:17

Simple, cheap and low cal especially.

JaneD3 Sat 27-Jan-18 08:20:13

I’m in! I absolutely agree that you can’t diet in January - finished more chocolates last night and made a dent in a bottle of Baileys grin

OldMeg Sat 27-Jan-18 08:23:17

Better finish that Baileys up then PDQ Jane - go for it!

Greenfinch Sat 27-Jan-18 11:58:25

Oh no !Just remembered that we have an unopened bottle of Baileys left from Christmas .Do I leave it unopened ?

michellehargreaves Sat 27-Jan-18 13:02:37

May I join too? I need to offload a stone - and I warn you in advance, if I do lose it, I will be unbearably smug. I like the idea of losing bodily pounds and (possibly) saving pounds sterling!
Let's do it! ?

MesMopTop Sat 27-Jan-18 14:27:31

In cold weather, aclovely big pot of home made vegetable soup can be filling, cheap and just lovely. Beats salad hands down.

cavewoman Sat 27-Jan-18 14:37:22

Yes.Soup! But please can someone tell me what to use for vegetable stock? I can't stand any shop bought ones. It seems strange to make a stock with the very same ingredients you will use for the soup. If that makes any sense confused

OldMeg Sat 27-Jan-18 16:30:42

Greenfnch that’s a hard decision to make ?????
