Katyj Wed 30-Jan-19 09:42:33

That sounds good urmstongran.Thank you. We need all the encouragement we can get,and to not feel discouraged if there's been a gain or stayed the same, which I'm sure might happen at some point. It's taken me 9 months to gain 5lb, we've got to be realistic about how fast were going to loose it in the future. Good luck for Friday.

Urmstongran Wed 30-Jan-19 08:23:32

Okay then, I will open a ‘5:2 GWI’ forum late tomorrow ready for any of you early birds who would like to post on Friday morning. Obviously this first month it’s more a case of logging in to ‘register’ your interest in a monthly Grand Weigh In. No one needs to supply their actual weight - it’s more about maintain, loss or gain.
Absolutely no pressure, just support amongst ourselves and the idea of it is to show a pattern looked at by monthly figures so that an overall pattern can be seen (and hopefully be pleased with).
The 1st of March will be the start date ‘properly’ of course. This Friday is more about intention to follow through.
Good luck to all of us eh?

Katyj Wed 30-Jan-19 06:59:04

Yes let's keep it separate, it'll be easier to see how everyone is doing, then maybe keep this one for chat. I've fasted mon, Tues going to do Thursday, as well, the only problem I'm having is I'm waking up feeling hungry through the night, I had more protein yesterday , that seemed to help a bit.Just have to keep trying different combinations see what works.Nervous for Friday, hope I've lost more than 1lb this week lol.

shysal Tue 29-Jan-19 21:07:29

Separate GWI thread is a good idea. Do you want to be the one to start it, urmstongran? I will then keep it in my watched list.

I have a feeling that I will not lose anything more by Friday but was pleased with the 4lb last week.

Lumarei Tue 29-Jan-19 20:23:18

Urmstongran, good idea! Keep it separate from the chat.

Urmstongran Tue 29-Jan-19 08:35:25

Hi neighbour! (Twin2). You are very welcome to the group!

I fasted yesterday. Lost 1lb. Eating today & tomorrow in a more measured way then fasting Thursday again.

So our GWI is this Friday ladies. Any good ideas how to record in the future (1st March) whether we maintained that month, lost or gained? Does anyone else think we should have a ‘5.2 GWI’ as a separate topic just to put there how we’ve done?

Twin2 Mon 28-Jan-19 15:10:13

Hi started today (dental work painful as anaesthetic wearing off) but not hungry so far.

Urmston Gran sorry but realised I hadn’t answered you. I’m in Sale. Hope you enjoyed party time. I’m keen to join in 1st of the month weigh in if you will have me.

Urmstongran Mon 28-Jan-19 11:08:37

Fast day for me today too girls. I usually weigh myself every morning (micro managing) but I’m looking forward to macro managing with the GWI as I hope to see a steady downward trend ?
I haven’t weighed myself this morning as TBH I’m scared to! Yesterday afternon was party time - cake, bubbles, Bailey’s. Yikes!

shysal Mon 28-Jan-19 10:18:07

I started on January 18th, but think a mass weigh-in on the first of each month would be a great idea.
I was amazed to find this morning that after my piggy weekend including a posh afternoon tea, after which I was full to bursting, I still weigh the same as after the last fast day. Will try not to overeat again on 'eating' days though.

Sunlover Mon 28-Jan-19 09:30:38

Fast day for me too. I felt a bit downhearted as the scales showed same as last Monday. At least I hadn't put on as I had eaten far too much over the weekend. Good idea about GWI. I'm in.

Lumarei Mon 28-Jan-19 08:28:00

I totally agree with you Urmstongran. The important thing is to dust ourselves off and be motivated not discouraged.
I started my weightloss on 1.1.19. Next GWI 1.2.19 and every 1st of the month thereafter. I am recording my (almost daily) progress on an app as well
I am also hoping for a summer of confidence.
Fast day for me today. I will try and eat as late as I possibly can. Good luck everybody.

Katyj Mon 28-Jan-19 06:21:19

Don't worry about the book Shysal, they haven't taken any money yet, I'll give it a bit longer then maybe buy it from Amazon. Good luck girls this week, I too have eaten plenty on eating days, no more than usual though, as I was eating too much anyway, if you see what I mean. Urmstongran I'm with you on the monthly weigh in. I'll be here on Friday with fingers crossed.

Urmstongran Sun 27-Jan-19 22:19:25

You know Shysal I think you’ve hit the nail on the head here.
I think especially in the very early days, being a bit piggy on our eating days (me too today, I’ve eaten loads) almost cancels out what we lose after the fast days. But here’s the thing .... not quite.

Baby steps at first towards weight loss. When you’ve lost a few pounds, a piggy day maybe puts back on a couple of pounds. Horrifying in the first couple of weeks as it just about cancels out what you’ve lost.

But slowly, slowly .... the tiny, incremental weight losses add up. That’s why, as well as weighing myself after my 2 fast days I’m going to do a 1st of the month ‘Grand Weigh In’. Who wants to join me?

Let’s all record our weight next Friday, 1st Feb. Then weigh ourselves over the next 4 weeks as and when it suits us. But then let’s do another GWI. (Grand Weigh In) on 1st March. That should really give us some indication that we’re on the right track. Even if only a by a tiny amount. The 1st of each month ought to show A LOSS.

C’mon ladies. Let’s focus.
If we have a bad day, draw a line in the sand and be good the next day.
We’re all in this for the long haul.
Let’s be ready to embrace summer this year in clothes that aren’t snug (like last year ... remember those days/evenings when we wanted to look good but settled for okayish?).

GWI: Next Friday.
Then 1st March.

shysal Sun 27-Jan-19 20:10:33

Glad you are joining us Twin2, hope the dental work won't be too horrendous.

shysal Sun 27-Jan-19 20:07:58

Katyj, I am interested to read that your book hasn't arrived because nor has mine. It has been a while now. I did wonder whether it wasn't a British company. Cheapest isn't always best, I am sorry I recommended them.

I have over-eaten this weekend, back on fasting day tomorrow, hope I haven't put on what I had lost.

Lumarei Sun 27-Jan-19 19:26:18

Sorry, I meant to welcome you as well. Have fun.

Lumarei Sun 27-Jan-19 19:25:19

Hi, I had the original book. It was Ok and it is always nice to read a book but there is nothing in there you could not read up on the internet now.

Katyj Sun 27-Jan-19 18:10:56

Hi, Twin2.Glad you decided to give it a go, that's what were all doing, I'm starting week 3 tomorrow, and looking forward to it, at least you'll feel like your making a start it does give you a boost. Don't know about the book I ordered it,from bookrocker but for some reason it hasn't gone through.Dr Mosley is answering questions, I think it's tomorrow, if you have anything to ask, there's a thread already running.Good luck, keep popping in, let us know how your doing .

Twin2 Sun 27-Jan-19 17:49:44

Hi I’ve yo-yo dieted for years but. you’ve all inspired me to have ago at 5.2. Start tomorrow on fast day as mega dental treatment big incentive. Can anyone tell me is the book worth getting ? Or info online.

M0nica Sun 27-Jan-19 08:24:17

I think health and appearance go together. If you are healthy, you look healthy,

But so much of appearance is genetic. I have recently spent a few happy days away with my sister, over 6 years my junior. In our family, coming down from our paternal grandmother, are genes for going grey very late, from the outside in (so no roots problem, as the crown of the hair is slowest to go grey), from another grandparent, thick luxuriant hair. I have inherited both genes, she has inherited neither, We are both equally healthy, but she looks the older because of her thinning grey hair. However she has always been by far the prettier - and still is.

smile A famous person once said that a woman of a certain age had to choose between her face and her figure.
However in reality, I suppose, a woman of a certain age has to choose health over appearance.

M0nica Sat 26-Jan-19 20:52:55

Having never had a cleavage to wish to keep, I do not care where the fat goes from as long as it goes grin

Maggiemaybe Sat 26-Jan-19 11:33:09

That’s true for me too, Lumarei. My BMI’s 24 now and if I lose just another couple of pounds I find I lose my cleavage as well. I’ll stick! grin

Lumarei Sat 26-Jan-19 09:31:29

I love reading all your wonderful contribution and it confirms just how everyone has to find their own way of fasting. One important point is to be kind to ourselves. When I did 5:2 before I had my goal weight set too low. I wanted to be the same weight I was in my early twenties (BMI 19) thinking that is what I am meant to be and pushed it too hard. So the last few lbs were so difficult that I lost motivation after a while and gave up instead of celebrating the achievement a BMI of 21.

Luckily with the help of this threat we can keep each other motivated - I like a monthly weigh in.

Unfortunately for me the lbs seem to first drop from places I am quite happy to have a bit of weight on ie chest and that on the oarts of my body I really want to lose weight ( hips and thighs) it takes a lot longer. :-).

Maggiemaybe Fri 25-Jan-19 21:52:39

I'm another who's done the 5:2 for years, four, maybe five. It's just routine for me now, and though I don't relish my fast days, they don't bother me either. I lost the stone I needed to lose easily over the first couple of months and since then I have just maintained the weight I'm happy with. From this you'll deduce that I don't stint myself at all on the other five days, and you'd be right - I love my food and drink, though I try to keep it healthy! My blood pressure went down after just weeks of the 5:2, enough for my doctor to double-check it, and he did confirm that in his opinion the change was down to my having the fast days.

I tend not to have anything to eat at all until late afternoon on fast days, which I find works best for me. I can then have a decent tea and sometimes a slice of toast for supper. Because I'm maintaining rather than trying to lose weight I have around 600 calories. This wouldn't work for everyone though, and some like to eat very little and often. In fact, my DD1 couldn't get on with the 5:2 at all, fasting made her feel faint and she prefers a low-carb diet.

Good luck to all the newbies! I hope you've found something that works for you. smile
