On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

However the 2 Gransnetters who have stayed the course are Fourormore and Shirleyw who have helped to keep me on the straight and narrow, most of the time ?, and kept up our spirits. Plus a few others who make an occasional entrance and departure and that is fine too - All Welcome.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.
Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.
Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my mantra. I am sure both Four and Shirley will tell you their strategies.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

So Onward and Downward ? in 2020 and beyond folks. Come and join us.

I’m a very pleased Beechnut this week. I’ve a loss of 2 3/4lb. My only treat was a box of crimbles. I love them but only buy them on special offer. I shouldn’t really look to see if they are on special ?
So on we go and see how things go this week. As you say Whiff it’s a new one.

Whiff Sun 26-Jul-20 10:40:14

Fourormore well done it's a loss. And as we all know it's hard to loss even a bit. Dorsetcupcake61 well done staying the same . I look at this way it's better than a gain. Onwards and upwards. It's a new week.

Dorsetcupcake61 Sun 26-Jul-20 09:51:57

Good morning everyone?. Like you Whiff I stayed the same but ever onwards! I'm glad you have got everything sorted and comfy at home.?. Fourormore well done. Every little helps. It is so frustrating though. Twenty years ago I remember that as long as I kept on plan, maybe the odd tiny slip I would lose 2lb a week as regular as clockwork. Now I seem to have to be hyper good and it can be a pound or less!
Still I've spent the week baking low calorie ready meals for the freezer so I'm prepared!
The news about Covid and obesity is a wake up call. It would be nice if the government really put some thought and effort into prevention and support. It's a global issue. I think there is more education about healthy choices. I also think it goes deeper. Junk and mass produced food is such an easy cheap option. I amended my online shopping order today and out of interest looked at top offers, apart from Activia yoghurt and bottled water they were all highly processed biscuits, cakes, crisps, fizzy drinks, pies etc. Food poverty is an increasing problem. When the girls were young money was tight ,I was an inventive cook and we ate a lot of lentil based dishes.! It was then so much easier and cheaper to buy value fish fingers, pizzas etc. Same in USA. I was talking to a lovely lady online who said her son helps her with food as she can eat junk and be well fed for $20 to eat a healthy well balanced diet costs$100☹.
On a final note there is a rather wonderful video on twitter, also on YouTube of Mr Johnson drawing a ladybird when he visited a playgroup. I didnt know whether to laugh or cry,he is so absorbed and proud of the result! What with Mr Trump passing his very hard cognitive test for dementia I shall sleep soundly?. Have a wonderful and safe week everyone ?

fourormore Sun 26-Jul-20 09:23:43

Morning all! Hope you enjoyed your holiday NanKate - funnily enough when sorting photos yesterday I came across some from a week we spent in the New Forest several years ago! I thought of you with a touch of envy I must admit!

I have been really good this week - I have had a 20min walk every morning Mon-Fri, had absolutely no bread which seems to go straight to the scales, and absolutely no sweets, biscuits, chocs, crisps etc. On the scales this morning I have lost 0.2lb! Gutted but I will not give up!

Good luck to everyone as we fight the fight together! flowers

Whiff Sun 26-Jul-20 08:47:39

NanKate hope you had a good holiday. My weight has stayed the same. Finally got all my bungalow sorted out this week. All the decorating done for this year only living room and hall to decorate next year. Spare room ready for visitors. Slept on my new mattress last night it was bliss.

Have a good week everyone.

Shirleyw Wed 22-Jul-20 20:57:51

Your lunch sounds lovely nankate. You picked a good week for the weather. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

NanKate Tue 21-Jul-20 08:00:52

Shirley ?

NanKate Tue 21-Jul-20 08:00:11

Still on my hols in the New Forest. Allowing myself some leeway but not going over the top.

Had delicious lunch yesterday - sea bream, rosemary potatoes, broccoli plus a white wine spritzer at a lovely seafront cafe yesterday - scrumptious.

Welcome Reader you will find friendship and support on this thread, so a warm welcome to you.

Whiff Tue 21-Jul-20 06:02:30

Shirleyw well done. If we have the sunshine we had here yesterday today it will be holiday weather. Hot weather ? always makes us feel better. Have a good day everyone.

Shirleyw Tue 21-Jul-20 02:45:38

Down three quarters of around lol...I think I'm still in holiday mode so am pleased ?

Whiff Mon 20-Jul-20 15:32:26

Reader56 I have found help, support and friendship here. You will to.

Reader56 Mon 20-Jul-20 15:15:42

I don’t see the point of fish and chips without the batter....would have to go the whole hog I’m afraid, no wonder I’m overweight ?

Reader56 Mon 20-Jul-20 15:14:24

Only just found this thread again, I never know how to keep connected...anyway no change with my weigh-in yesterday, not surprised as last weeks was more than I was expecting. Is anyone on here doing Michael Mosley’s Fast800 diet? It looks very interesting, but quite a big change for me so not sure whether to go ahead...lovely to read all your posts, you’re such a philosophical lot...

Dorsetcupcake61 Mon 20-Jul-20 13:47:31

Ooh fish and chips in the sunshine by the sea?. Ours tend to be lower calorie due to feral seagulls ??

Dorsetcupcake61 Mon 20-Jul-20 13:40:19

Fourormore it's good to hear your relatives are stable at the moment. It must be so hard when face to face contact limited. One plus side is the internet and the possibility of sending little surprise gifts to cheer people up. I think you are very sensible to be cautious. The continued easing of lockdown does seem to make some people feel everything is back to normal .The government is however still advising caution for shielded and high risk.
Keep at it Beechnut,I've been a bit like a yo yo over past few weeks but before you know those dresses will be a perfect fit. I must admit I'm not a fan of anything open toed ,mainly due to not having the prettiest of toes!
Thankyou Whiff, yes I certainly felt brighter. The weather certain helps. I also love Dead Ringers on Radio 4,jaw achingly funny! I was listening to it when my Union Rep called. Well that's an hour of my life I will never get back and hes probably lying down under a cold flannel somewhere! It's a situation that goes round in circles and I'm sure like many I'm in a grey area. Still even frustrating situations have there humourous moments (well for me anyway). At one stage he said how he valued my "lived experience ". Its a fairly recent buzz phrase that have heard before and thought would google. " a first hand account and impression of living as a member of a minority or oppressed group". Ooh err! My immediate association was an old Monty Python film where a bedraggled peasant is leaping up and down yelling " help I'm being oppressed!". To use popular 1980s jargon I am very tempted to put him on a back burner and maybe turn the heat up??. Have a great week everyone ?

Whiff Mon 20-Jul-20 12:35:46

Fourormore my friend from the Midlands took great delight in telling me about eating fish and chips from the chippie in her garden. She was being good only had a mini fish. She's like us trying to give the pounds off. But a treat does us all good.

My husband was like your brother in law up beat. Unless you saw him you wouldn't know he was ill. He always said we have to live the best life we can no matter how short. It's the love and memories we leave behind.

fourormore Mon 20-Jul-20 11:28:54

Everyone's having ups and downs but we are sticking together which is great! Keep it up folks!

Thanks for your good wishes Dorset sadly both our relatives are terminal so we know they won't recover. However, they are both upbeat about it and who knows - they could both go on for a long while yet.
My BIL especially is wonderful as when we speak on the phone he's amazing - you would never guess he is so sick!
My cousin is less so but she is having chemo in tablet form and doesn't seem to have many side effects which is great.

If the country ever gets clear of the virus it will be easier as we can relax a little knowing we can go to and fro, but for the time being all DH and I can do is try to keep germ-free and avoid contact with possible carriers as much as possible.

Once we can return to proper exercise - I DO miss my swimming - we will all lose weight!
Good luck everyone and don't think about NanKate's fish and chips hmm Yum yum envy

Whiff Mon 20-Jul-20 11:20:54

Beechnut wish I could wear sandals. When I was young ,care free and had nice feet they were lovely and cold. Now have to enclose my feet or I would fall over. It's not old age been like it since I was 29.

A pound is a tiny blip. Keep up the good fight.

Beechnut Mon 20-Jul-20 10:21:10

I am up 1lb from my last weigh in. It’s been an very up and down fortnight.
However I do have some inspiration in three new pairs of sandals that go with dresses that are a little snug at present.

I’ll go back and read how you are all getting on. ?

Whiff Mon 20-Jul-20 09:14:28

Dorsetcupcake61 you sound up beat today glad to hear it. Enjoy your day.

Dorsetcupcake61 Mon 20-Jul-20 08:20:47

Whiff Mon 20-Jul-20 06:31:52

Cocopops well done. Hope you have a good week. Hopefully we will have some sunshine makes us feel lighter.

CocoPops Mon 20-Jul-20 04:17:59

Down 1lb this week at 134 lbs. Good luck everyone.

Whiff Sun 19-Jul-20 17:24:03

Fourormore its a loss and thanks great. Glad your painter has finished. I finally have all the use of my rooms after nearly been here a year. My spare bedroom was decorated. My daughter and son in law put together the double bed and the new mattress on. All furniture back where it belongs. Just need to sort out where to put everything. But I will take it over a few days.
