Thanks Pears for the GW congratulations. We had a lovely weekend away meeting with friends for lunch and Renewed our Vows. The congregation were told at the beginning of the Service that we had returned to celebrate our 50 years marriage, there was then a round of applause, it was just lovely.
Whiff I admire your strength of character through adversity.
I must admit I have let my Eating Less for Life mantra slip over the last few months, so I need to follow my own advice with the support of you lovely lot. Onward and Downward ?

I’m a Pear ? the sequel part 2 !
(1001 Posts)On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.
However the 2 Gransnetters who have stayed the course from the beginning are Fourormore and Shirleyw who have helped to keep me on the straight and narrow, most of the time ?, and kept up our spirits.
We now have some other excellent new regulars who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all.
Do join us the rules are simple.
Choose your own style of diet plan.
Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.
Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.
So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my mantra.
You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.
Please join us at this difficult time in all our lives with the Pandemic.
So Onward and Downward girls ??
NanKate glad you had a lovely time. But I am no different to anyone else here. I just ramble on. But then again if you met me I am like it in real life. ?.
Not trumpet blowing, Whiff. You are dealing the hand you’ve been dealt with grace and wisdom. All power to your elbows!
Thank you JoMarch.
Don't forget to alter the clocks tomorrow night goes back a hour.
Can an apple jump into the fruit bowl?
Shinamae we are all shapes and sizes. But we are friendly ,helpful and support eachother. We all have our ups and downs but encourage eachother. And no one is horrible or negative.
So well to the bowl. ?
Welcome not well.
lost 2lbs at long last...been a few weeks since i lost anything really so very happy with that.
Pouring with rain here, we are just back from taking dog for a walk, she dosent like the rain either so she actually turned back when half way round field lol....
Shall take my coffee upstairs in spare room and do my sewing, hopefully by the time J goes on her second walk we wont get so wet, we dont have any plans to go out other than that today. What are you guys upto today? and do you have the same weather as us?
Shirley well done with the loss. You deserve a medal going out in the rain if its anything like it is here . Glad I don't have to go anywhere . What are you making ? I have been watching the GBSB from the first episode again on iPlayer. I had forgotten the first series was only 4 episodes.
Had a blip this week put on quarter of pound. But that's ok. I made cheese scones this week had one at home and rest went to my daughter's. Had another one with my lunch with them on Friday. Glad to say both my grandson's liked them.
Had a hard job knocking my alarm off this morning it was so dark. And I didn't want to put my nice warm arm out of bed . Will be keeping the heating on all day. It's so cold. Got a Quorn chicken piece stew with plenty of veg cooking and will put pasta into to it for the last 20 mins . That's 6 dinners sorted.
Have a good week everyone ?
Well done Shirley - it's a wonderful feeling when you finally get a result after many weeks of disappointment. It does go eventually but takes sooooooooooo long doesn't it!
Whiff that too is a result - where do you get the will power to cook cheese scones and not eat them all!!!!!
We will all succeed so keep persevering everyone!
It's great to welcome another new member of the 'gang' too - you are very welcome Shinamae I am sure you will enjoy the comradery of this thread as some have already said - we encourage each other during the times of blips and inertia and celebrate the losses and milestones. No nastiness or judgement - we are all human and will slip up at times.
I am basically the same this week with a loss of 0.2lb - having lost over the past few weeks I am happy to maintain for while.
The yellow blocks on my weight chart are getting nearer and nearer to the 12stone line! All I want is to see on my scales is '11 stone something' which is my next target. Hopefully I can be a few pounds under 12 by Christmas then I can afford to gain a bit before hitting the trail again. Hopefully we will be away for Christmas as last year was cancelled so we intend to spoil ourselves!!!
Thought you all may enjoy the cartoon!
Good luck everyone!!!
Four another win with your loss . Love the cartoon. I have set myself a goal which I haven't done regarding my weight for years I want to be 12st by Christmas. Like you that way if I put a bit on over Christmas it won't matter. So 7.5 lbs to lose.
I can limit myself to the scones because I made them to give them away. But if I brought any bread products I have no control. I can't freeze them to last a week or so. Tried that and eat a pack of bagel thins in 2 days?. Of course they where toasted and covered in low fat spread and jam. Why does warm bread anything taste better than cold?
Good morning fellow pears and welcome Shinamae?. I do enjoy reading all the posts through the week but dont always have time to reply!
I think the 5.2 is interesting although I'm not sure people always realise they have to be sensible the other 5 days!
800 calories a day is also food for thought! Last February I was,on the Newcastle diet which is aimed at reducing blood sugar. It starts off very strict 2 replacement shakes and a very small veg based dish. What you can and cant have is very specific, even down to the veg you can eat. Gradually over the months you re introduce foods. It did work remarkably well for me. I lost over a stone, never felt hungry. I was working 12 hour shifts and felt really well! Then Covid appeared! It made eating very simple as well. A friend at the same time was on one of Michael Moselys plans and shes retired and likes cooking and found it quite challenging. The basic principle is fresh food and nothing that grows beneath the ground! Neither were long term sustainable in that form but do have some valid points.!
I'm the same with bread Whiff. Cheese scones are wonderful to?. One bread I'm really not keen on are the small 400g loaves my daughter is allowed for slimming world. They are so light and so unsatisfying they dont get eaten?. Well done to all who have lost or stayed the same. I stayed the same to!
Strange weather here, heavy rain then sunshine!,
Have a lovely week all?
Dorset is it that Danish loaf. How they can call it bread I will never know. Even toasted it's awful. I brought it because it was under 100 cals a slice. It dissolved in my soup.
Hi Whiff. I agree that the Danish bread is grim and not worth having! This however was brown bread. The initial one was by famous company beginning with W . Its smaller in size than usual loaf but the texture very similar to Danish. Tried the 400g loaf from famous company beginning with H. Same problem, texture like cotton wool and ripped very easily!
The one I tried was from the company beginning with W it was white 400g . I do have my bread treat at my daughter's but usually only a 2 small slices or 1 large no spread to go with my soup. Or sometimes we have mini tortilla pizza. I only have 1. Sometimes it we had cheese on toast and then had 2 but not to much cheese. But last time got a blood blister on my tongue and due to being on blood thinners it didn't go for days. Pre blood thinners they would go over night. So my daughter hasn't done cheese on toast for me since. Shows how much she loves her old mom. My grandson's have it if her eldest asks for it.
Beside my cheese scone with my soup on Friday we had chocolate biscuits as the after swim lesson treat but I only had 1. It was coated all over in chocolate. Yum. Funny I enjoyed that but not the twirl after my MRI.
Any way another blustery and heavy rain day here again.
Glad I don't have to go out today. Be care if any of you do . On the news trees are down in parts of the country and flooding.
I must admit Whiff that cheese scones, home made are my idea of paradise. The first savoury cream tea I had was bliss?. Cheese on toast is another favourite although I cant remember the last time I had it!
Chocolate is a strange thing. Like you I find it often is a disappointment. It just doesnt taste the same. I do wonder if it's down to a certain brand changing their recipe. That said on the occasions I have decided on a small treat, favourites include Twix they just taste rather bland and sweet. It's a good thing really as I'm increasingly telling myself it's not worth it?. One item I have enjoyed are chocolate covered rice cakes. You can get mini packs which are handy as a work snack. My favourites are the larger ones. The rice cake is thin and they have a thin layer of dark chocolate on top. The chocolate is delicious and the rice cake makes them very satisfying!
I'm also looking at my work lunches again. I had got into the habit of a sausage bap. Calorie wise it was okay and certainly filled the gap. Nutritional value not good though. I must admit I've gone from rarely eating sausages to eating to many. I have found a little cafe that does vegan breakfasts so assuming quorn sausages can be put in a bap!
Now the weather is turning colder I'm having to rethink. I have lots of ideas for a packed lunch but really it's what im prepared to carry into work on the bus?.
The ability to sit outdoors is a big consideration. Infection rates are going through the roof here. The majority of folk are ignoring masks/ social distancing which doesnt help. I'm not sure sitting indoors in a cafe is a particularly enticing idea. ! I'm on annual leave next week. I'm not going anywhere but it's my 60th birthday so booked it anyway. On Monday I have my diabetic check up-last one February 2020! On Tuesday I have my Covid booster-thank goodness!
Have a good week everyone xx
Happy birthday for next week incase I forget. Hope your check up and booster go well .
Didn't get to my exercise class the bus didn't turn up. Should have been 7 mins past waited until half past. Next week walking to the main road have a choice of 4 buses. I hate missing things that aren't my fault.????
Love Aldi special buys. And brought these to go with the toys at nannies home. Had to put the rocket together with my trusty screwdriver. Hope you like them
Hi Whiff, thank you?. It's a biggie, I will be 60 which I'm not over keen on so trying to ignore!
I share your frustration with buses. In theory we have one at least every 20 minutes. If you live at the other end of the heath every 10 minutes. Unfortunately if they are going to miss out a bus ,which they do occasionally it's usually the one at my end of the heath ?. This does mean that if you have to be somewhere for a specific time such as a hospital or hair appointment you have to get the bus before the one that would get you there on time. Very frustrating and time wasting!
Those toys are amazing, especially the rocket. Your grandsons will be thrilled!
Just been catching up on all the news, it’s good to hear of losses - well done on making those scales shift and encouraging to hear of the keep on going attitude of those maintainers.
Our bus service in Lincolnshire is dreadful, we have one an hour which goes into town and it’s so expensive that until I’m old enough for a bus pass I’ll keep using the car! A return ticket is over five pounds and it’s a 10 minute walk into the village itself to catch it.
We had a lovely few days away last week and I was interested to see how much ‘eating less for life’ has begun to happen in my head! I didn’t go for the cooked breakfast but enjoyed fruit, and yoghurt (and toast as a treat as I don’t eat much bread these days). I even chose fruit for dessert at dinner as I really didn’t fancy anything else off the menu - that wouldn’t have happened a couple of years ago. This meant that I maintained this week in terms of the scales, but am really pleased with that.
We’re heading for a busy weekend as it’s our DGS fourth birthday on Sunday - it’s gone by so quickly. So looking forward to dinosaur cake on Sunday ?. Have a good weekend everyone.
Dorset Happy 60th. Regarding treats, I can resist chocolate but not peanut butter so I no longer buy it. My treat on Saturday evening after looking after GS all day was chilling out with an episode of "Vera' and a G'n'T.
Whiff You really struck lucky with your Aldi toys.
I will pay Aldi a visit next time I fly across the pond to visit my son. He has an Aldi within walking distance from home and says their veggies are fresher than Tesco's at the moment.
Sarah Enjoy the birthday party.
No weight loss or weight gain for me. I did eat too much on Halloween but a big take-out on the night was part of the fun.
Our clocks here "fall back" tonight and I am resolved to get up and out in daylight earlier in future.. she says !
Have a great week everyone.
Happy 60th dorset, hope you have a great birthday.
Stayed the same this week.
Our clocks went back last week cocopops, I like the earlier light mornings again so I don’t walk dog in the semi dark when Im on early shift. Not keen on it getting dark after 4pm though….can’t win lol….
We have a good bus service, their is a relatively new busway approx 8mins brisk walk to it and the no.70 gets me to work right outside the gates and takes half an hour…I usually drive but if I don’t have to support anyone across the town where I work I take the bus (or it’s a half an hour walk once I get off the bus so it would be more travel time than work )…got to say most wear masks on it and windows are open and it’s not packed.
Have a good week all, not checked the weeks weather yet.
A most Happy Birthday Dorset ?. What a youngster you are only 60 !
I’ve definitely cut back on my mini snacks as that is what has caused me to put back on some pounds. I don’t eat big portions of anything but I realise that I regularly grab a biscuit, a few nuts etc which is the cause of my wider hips.
I rarely put weight on on my upper body but from my waist down it’s a different story.
Keep going lovely losers.
nankate and all...not long to yet another 1000 posts...fabulous....
