Dorsetcupcake good weight lose. My exercise instructor says it takes more effort to do gentle movements and slowly than it does to do them fast. As you have to control your body more to move slower. As an experiment lift your leg or arm fast then do it slowly and your will feel the difference as you feel every muscle. But if anything hurts stop as it shouldn't hurt but you should feel the exercise. I know how much I have gained from my exercise class especially as it's aims are strength and stability. It makes you think more about what you are doing . Eg when you go to step onto a pavement lead with your stronger leg and make sure you lift the back leg high. As most people forget to lift the back foot and that's how they trip. Madness I know but it's true.?

I’m a Pear ? the sequel part 3 - Wow!
(1001 Posts)3 years 7 months ago on 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.
We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all. I am so grateful you have stayed so loyal and been such good friends to us all.
Do join us the rules are simple.
Choose your own style of diet plan.
Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.
Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.
So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my way of life.
You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.
Our new mantra is - Eat Less for Life.
So Onward and Downward Pears ??
Hi all, I hope everyone has had a nice Sunday. I seem to be over the Covid now thank you. Hope you’re doing ok & testing negative soon Sarahmob it’s awful feeling rough and being stuck inside. Pleased you managed to get out in the fresh air for a walk. As for people telling you not to lose anymore weight as you are too skinny, if you feel well and happy I wouldn’t take any notice. It’s often people who wish they could lose weight themselves that tell us this.
You have had a brilliant week Whiff you must be very pleased, others are obviously noticing the difference too. I think once you are on the right path & you start seeing results it spurs you on even more, it’s a great feeling when your clothes start to feel looser and you can drop down another size. Im looking forward to dropping a dress size, you have inspired me to push on.
I go to a craft group on a Monday morning and it’s lovely, we make a variety of things while having a good natter over a coffee. You did well winning the cat cross-stitch Whiff that will keep you busy. I think I am going to get a proper craft lamp ready for the Autumn, it definitely takes your mind off snacking if you have a little craft project on the go
I lost 1/2lb this week & I’m quite happy with that as I have been a bit out of kilter. I’m going to try & do a bit of batch cooking for the freezer tomorrow afternoon as I think having things in & being prepared is half the battle.
Enjoy your week everyone & good luck.
SachaMac glad you are over Covid and lost weight to. If your craft group is like mine no topic is taboo. One of our members adult daughter popped in after work the other week and was shocked at what we where talking about. She now says "are you going to craft group " ?. Our age range is 30's to 80's so been there done that and got the tee shirts. ?
Haha your craft group sounds very similar to ours then Whiff, a lovely mix of people, in their 50’s to 80!s the majority probably like me in their 60’s, we certainly cover a wide range of topics in our chats.
It was the lady who runs the groups birthday today & she had brought in the most beautiful home made cup cakes. They were delicious, not a great start to the week but it would have been rude not to partake! ?
SachaMac we have cake when it's someone's birthday. But I just add on to my calories. Bet you share craft things as well. If we have things to give away we put in the middle of the table and people help themselves. I gave away 6 runner bean plants the other week and 3 wanted my brownie recipe and other easy recipes. ?
Very disappointed to report I've gained 4lb. Been away for 9 days visiting GC, ate healthy food however had quite a few cappuccinos in local coffee shops plus a few alcoholic drinks at local pub. All my efforts in past few weeks have been for nothing. Not back to square one but not far off. O dear ?
kissngate it's a blip. Don't worry. At least you have a wonderful time with your grandchildren. Tomorrow is a new start. We have all been there. The main thing is to keep at it and you will win in the end. ?'s together.
Congratulations to those who have lost lbs. My weight seems to be stuck at the moment (3lbs over target) I went to aquafit and thoroughly enjoyed it so will keep going weekly and I am cycling twice a week. Keep on keeping on Pears.
Thanks for cheering me up Whiff. I couldn't believe I'd put 4 on. Thought I might have gained 1 or 2 however I was more active than usual. It just shows how easy it is to gain lbs if you don't keep strictly to your diet.
Cocopops it proves you can maintain a weight ,ok not the one you want but that's an achievement. One day I will be after advise how to do that. Aqua fit sounds fun . I wouldn't have the confidence to put on a swim suit unless it was one of the Victorian ones that cover you from neck to toe?.
kissngate that's what NanKate set up this thread for supporting eachother other . I have said it before if losing weight was easy we would all be a size 12. But it's hard but the key is not to stop trying. I gave up for decades if I had a bad day.
Started this journey in 2017 and still plodding on. If my husband was here he would say where's my wife and what have you done with her. But he loved me no matter how huge I got and when I gave up trying to lose weight he never criticised me . He was my rock. I laugh at myself sometimes and wonder what he would think of me and my life style now. I have changed such a lot especially since moving to the north west . For the better I might add.
Our instructor put us through over paces yesterday and my poor legs are paying for it today. But I will be going back again next week as it's helping me with my strength and stability and noticed my thighs and bum have tightened up. My trousers are baggy in those areas. Pity my boobs haven't tightened up they still head south bra-less ?.
Take care everyone. ?
Good morning lovely pears. Well it's certainly warm here in Dorset! I'm very glad I'm only in the office two days this week ,so much easier to be cooler at home!
I totally relate Kissngate. It's so demoralising to put back those pounds so quickly after working so hard to lose them. ! Still as Whiff says its a blip and we are all here to offer sympathy, support and encouragement?.
Indeed Whiff my exercises are very slow and gentle but I can feel the difference and most 0f all I'm amazed at the fact I haven't missed a day!
I have lost a pound this week. Feel I have worked hard for it though!
Have a good week everyone. Good luck? and don't give up!
Stayed the same this week which I am happy with as we discovered 'Toastie Bags' in a cupboard when sorting through bits and decided to see if they worked!
They did - a wonderful invention - make your sandwich with whatever you wish as a filling. Slide it into the bag and place in the toaster! My problem is bread but I still succumbed a couple of times and probably with generous fillings?

Why does cheese in a toastie taste so good!
Anyway I have had a lot of exercise dashing about this week which fortunately must have compensated for my sins!
My exercise class starts again this week and now the novelty of the toastie bags has worn off a bit perhaps next week will show some progress!
Good luck fellow strugglers - together we will get there!

Dorset well done with the loss. Gentle exercise seems to tightened the muscles more. Don't know about you but always feel better after doing them. Over did it at class on Wednesday. We where doing squats for 10 secs then 10secs of marching 4 times . I keep in time to the music big mistake as my poor thighs felt it for 3 days but I was enjoying myself. ?.
Four well done staying the same . Luckily I can't eat anything toasted as if I do I get blood blisters in my mouth. Started before I went on blood thinners but the blisters are bigger if I have one and last longer now.
I hope you enjoy your exercise class. Remember if it hurts stop. But you should feel you are working. What I love about my class is we encourage eachother and after working hard have a cuppa and have earned a biscuit or 2 my weekly treat.
Weight stayed the same this week but fine with that. Hopefully will get to the next stone mark as I have 5 weeks before I go to stay with my brother and sister in law. And will be having some treats.
My brother is now negative for Covid but my sister in law and her dad who lives with them are still positive. This time they said it felt like a very bad cold. Luckily her dad isn't to bad as he has COPD and they where very worried about him.
Anyway keep cold Pear drops.
Hi Pears, what a beautiful day, I’m just cooling off inside. No movement either way this week for me, I’m not too disappointed as I have been out and had a few treats. I went to see the Elvis film on Friday night with some friends & we had a few sweets in the cinema and went for a couple of drinks afterwards.
Pleased your brother is getting over Covid ok Whiff not long till you go and stay with him now.
I would have found the toasties hard to resist too fourormore what a nice treat to find in the cupboard
Have a great week all, keep going & enjoy this lovely sunshine ?
Morning all……I’m up 5lbs, my excuse have been on 2 weeks holiday….back to the ‘drawing board’.
Very hot here in Bedfordshire……I was due for cataract op on other eye today so booked 2 weeks off sick but had a call Saturday that surgeon is ill and no cover , annoying but can’t be helped, so I’m hoping to have 2 weeks unpaid leave as the rota is done…..(bet she will find someone for me to support ?)…….
Gonna be a scorcher?☀️, have a good week all….
Sacha staying the same is great especially if you have had treats you don't normally have. I am glad I didn't have any ice cream or the lot would have gone yesterday. It is now 23°c in my living room already.
Shirley glad you had a good holiday. When my friend came the other week it was like a holiday for her and she went home with a new set of goals ahead of her. Said she needed the break.
Sorry your op got cancelled. Hopefully it will be rescheduled soon. A friend had her knee replacement brought forward as there was a cancellation. She had it done at a private hospital paid by NHS she is doing well.
My mom had both eyes done and couldn't get over the difference it made. Enjoy your extra time off if you do get it and not have to work after all.
I like it warm but it's going to be to hot for me. Getting up now as the garden needs weeding and best get out before it gets hotter .
Plenty of cold drinks, sun cream and hats if you go out all. ?
Morning Folks.
Good to see you all here.
I’ve just returned from looking after our 2 DGSs for 12 days Phew. I didn’t over eat but I had a few drinks and some chocs in the evening to keep myself going, well that’s my excuse. Off to the New Forest on Friday for a week. I think there is going to be a big reckoning on my return.
Lovely weather here in B.C. too and touch wood the temperature will remain in the 20s unlike last year when over 400 people died in extreme heat conditions.
I lost just a fraction of a lb last week.
Fortunately I love making and scoffing interesting salads so fingers crossed I lose a bit more over the summer.
Good to hear about Pears who have managed to build daily exercise into their routines.
NanKate have a wonderful week the New forest is beautiful. You are in for a hot week so be careful. Looking after your grandsons for 12 days while lovely and bet you all had a brilliant time can be exhausting so you did deserve your chocs and drink.
I didn't realise until my first grandson of was born how much more you worry about them than your own children. I suppose it's because with your own they are yours and you are so busy looking after them a home etc ever fall or knock you take in your stride. And I know with having a second child you don't worry over ever bump. But with my grandson's it's different. I worry in case they get hurt especially if I am looking after them. I suppose it's because they aren't mine . And my daughter and son in law trust me to protect them . I understood what my mom meant when she said the love of a grandchild is different from your own child.
Cocopops we are expecting a very hot week next week and there is a weather warning about extremely high temperatures . It was very hot here Monday and I was in the garden but could only do a hour it was to hot this was early morning. I then needed to sort out my greenhouse which was 25.5° with the door opened but it had to be done. Had a nap after lunch. I like it warm but not to hot. Only so many clothes you can take off without shocking the neighbours ?.
Yesterday it rain off and on be it was still 24° in my living room.
Hopefully won't be to hot today got my exercise class at 12. Luckily it's in a large hall and has doors that can let a breeze through. One of my friends always brings a hand fan with her as she gets hot after the warm up. The old fashioned sort you waft about yourself.
Long sleeves plenty of suntan cream and hat for me today.
Take care all.
January was told to get my cholesterol, , I was overweight, by by April, despite blips, some big, others not so, I was within a few pounds of my goal. I had succeeded in lowering my cholesterol to a good level. I was delighted and treated my self to a bar if chocolate. I am now 4lbs heavier than I was in January when I started my diet. Nothing fits, I got very down about it.Now I've started again, it took me four months before and I ruined the hard work. Now I'm determined, so I've started again just a week at a time for my weigh in. No bread in the week but lots of fruit and vegetables. It's going tontajecpaymentand long time but there's no chololate at the end to celebrate. I need to lose 1 1/2 stone now.
Allsorts I feel for you. It’s so easy to gain and so hard to lose, that is why this thread means so much to us folk, as it us a place of non judgemental support. I know I’m going to need it on my return from hols. Onwards and downwards. ?
Glad to see you Allsorts. That's the lovely thing about Pears we don't give up and support eachother no matter what. I have said before if losing weight was easy we would all be a size 12.
I am still battling to lose the stone and bit. Lost count of the times I have got close to losing that and put some back on or stayed the same weight for weeks on end. But not given up.
Bread is a big no for me I love the stuff in any shape or form. Well exercise class is calling but at least I get tea and biscuits afterwards.
Keep going and be careful in the sun.
You did really well to lose that weight between Jan and April Allsorts I’m sure you will soon be back on track. I’ve done the same thing in the past. A few years ago I joined Slimming World, I got to my target quite quickly and felt really good about myself, then I took my eye off the ball and had soon put half of the weight back on. Chocolates a trigger food for me, I rarely buy it for myself but I have always had a treat tin for the GC, packs of Freddo’s etc. if the mood takes me I crack & raid the tin. I’ve decided now I’ll give them some money to go and buy some sweets or an ice cream or take them to the shop to pick something so I haven’t got temptation sitting there calling my name. The problem for me is just sticking to one small treat, once I start I find it difficult to stop. I do find my appetites reduced in this hot weather which is an added bonus.
SachaMac unfortunately my appetite is the same no matter what the weather. Would love to buy ice cream but I know myself to well. If I brought a tub or individual ice creams on a stick I would eat the whole lot in a day. ?.
Had good news bad news at exercise class yesterday. Our instructor has become an Auntie for the first time. Proudly showed us pictures of her neiece. Over tea and biscuits she told us due to cut backs all maintenance classes where closing end of this month. Then we had a 4 weeks workshop classes. Then finish. They are going to try and find us classes to join. I know of local sit fit classes but we can do more than those exercises. We have grown close our group of 5 but doubt we will all stay together. The sit fit class will continue but will only be for 12 weeks and then that's it. Because the classes are GP referral and run by the council. The council are having to make cut backs and unfortunately active ageing exercise classes are being cut. But at least there will still be the one class across the borough.
I can see me having to join a sit fit class as I don't want to stop going to a weekly class. Not worried about making friends or fitting in. But I look forward to going to a class every week.
Did look at stand up Pilates classes but they are £10 a lesson . I could manage £5 but not £10. Some were even more expensive. Using gym equipment is not possible for me to use. But will have to wait and see what our instructor can find out for us. I have been going to the classes since June last year. And looked forward to them every week.
Keep cool everyone it's going to get hotter ?
It’s a shame about your classes whiff I agree £10 is a bit steep, most around here are £6 per session. Hope you can find a suitable alternative & the little group you have made friends with can all join together.
I know what you mean about ice cream, if it’s gone nice and soft I could quite happily eat the whole tub!! Dangerous stuff
It’s more cloudy here today, there’s a lovely breeze, I’m just about to hang my bedding out, it should be dry in no time. Have a great day all.
