On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle.

We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears and Apples. I am so grateful to those who have stayed loyal and contributed a lot of useful information and given support, especially Whiff 👍

Do join us, the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.

Pass on any useful diet tips.

You have nothing to lose on this thread, other than weight.

Our mantra is - EAT LESS FOR LIFE.

MayBe70 this weight loss lark is not easy.

Is there any chance that you could explain to your partner how important it is for your health to lose some weight? Some days of the week I cook for DH and myself, others he cooks for himself and I cook my meal. When I feel I have eaten too much in the day for supper I have a bowl of cereal topped with yogurt and fruit to even things out a bit.

My weight shot up again when I was at home doing the neverending decluttering. I’ve been at my partners for three weeks and am struggling to lose the weight I put on because he expects me to meal plan and cook for both of us when really
all I want to do is stick to a rigid diet. So I’m trying to fast for as long as possible in the evenings. I’m a bit obsessed with oranges at the moment ( not sure why: had a craving for them a few months ago which hasn’t gone away) so tend to eat one when I should be fasting but I am, at least, just sticking to drinking water. And am eating quite healthily but eating too much. The weight seems to be round my stomach, which is unusual for me, although it tends to happen if I eat bread, which I was doing when I was working on my house. And I still can’t walk the way I used to although I did manage what used to be the walk I did every evening last night. First time in ages that I’ve managed that.I’ve got one more week before I go home so I need to try really hard for the next seven days.

Nankate Oh indeed , it’s a lot better than a gain.

NanKate Fri 25-Apr-25 14:28:39

silverlining staying the same weight is always a relief to me.

Have a good weekend Pears and Apples 👋

Morning all, well I remained the same this week . I dint know why because we hadn’t been anywhere or eaten out etc and felt quite hungry some of the time as I was cutting back on food anyway.
Was asked why by the person who runs things and as usual I had no explanation. Two women either side of me had been out, eaten Easter chocolate and cakes etc etc nice restaurant and family meals without too much care and they both lost a pound and a half each.
However onwards and downwards. .
Yes how are you Frugola? Hope all is bene.

NanKate Fri 25-Apr-25 08:05:40

Frugola we haven’t heard from you for a while. How are things?

silverlining48 Sun 20-Apr-25 18:57:25

Progress is always good. Well done coco. Here’s to next week.
I have treated myself to half a hot cross bun and a tiny slice of lemon drizzle cake today.

CocoPops Sun 20-Apr-25 17:03:55

Congratulations " losers" . I weighed in at 136.6lbs this morning. Slow progress but progress it is! I've got some knitting to keep my fingers occupied after dinner. Happy Easter everyone.

NanKate Sun 20-Apr-25 14:50:49

Well done to the Losers. It’s not easy I know that from experience.

Your biscuits sounded rather nice Whiff. 👍

silverlining48 Sun 20-Apr-25 13:43:24

Thanks Nan Kate and whiff. I know how easy it is to put on weight, I do it all the time, but seem to be on a bit of a roll. I weighed a pound less again at home this morning but know it all swings high and low. Weighing daily keeps me focused.
I don’t feel much different yet whiff and still have stones to go but am taking it a half stone at a time.
Happy Easter 🐣 to all and enjoy your chocolate , carefully.

Whiff Sun 20-Apr-25 09:47:25

CocoPops hope you got your wool and been busy knitting. I cross stitch you can't eat and cross stitch at the same time . Also think hobby's which use your hands keep your fingers flexible. At craft group last week someone commented on my small hands if only the rest of me was as slender and my hands 🤣.

Silverlining well done on the 2lb and half stone loss. I am at a loss as why they give certificates and sticker if you put on do they take it off you . Just seems odd. But then again my experience off weight loss classes is from the 80's and treated like a naughty schoolgirl if you put on. Tried Slimming that's a blast from the past and weight watchers hated both.
By doing it slowly will keep it off. As you have worked hard for that half stone . You must have lost inches as well.or at least felt clothes being looser. 🥂 Here's to the next half stone.

Shirley I hope you feel a sense of achievement after your run. I am still doing my exercises at home and my pedalling plus my 2 classes . No class tomorrow so will do a hour routine at home of exercise I do in sit fit. As I feel better plus I like routine .

NanKate enjoy your Easter roast. My meals are the same as usual . My daughter and grandsons coming this morning. I don't buy them eggs but made biscuits at 7 this morning. Even though it hurts I rolled out the dough and cut out Easter shapes for them.

Lost pound and quarter this week so pleased about that just have to keep it up as my holiday is fast approaching..

Happy Easter fruits 🐇🐥🥂🤸

NanKate Sun 20-Apr-25 07:42:41

Well done Silverlining48 2lbs is a great loss 👍. It takes me 4 weeks to lose 2lbs.

I intend to eat a delicious Easter Day treat of roast pork (yes and the crackling) and lots of veg today and maybe a glass of wine.

Easter Greetings to all the Pears and Apples.

Shirleyw Sun 20-Apr-25 03:49:09

That’s great silverlining well done..
I knit of an evening cocoapops to keep the hands busy, I still think of food though 😂😂….mine is greed too not hunger, I do keep better control now, not easy is it?….the lighter mornings and evenings makes one feel better I think and wants to get out more now the weather is warming up.
I’m still doing my running early morning, see the odd dog walker so I don’t mind that, I wouldn’t run pass a lot of people , I’d power walk then 🏃‍♀️‍➡️

Happy Easter all…..

silverlining48 Fri 18-Apr-25 11:05:41

Good news, i lost 2 lbs yesterday, so have lost half a stone in total. It’s taken 10 weeks, but that’s fairly quick for me. I got a certificate and a sticker….
So here’s to the next half stone.
We can do this 🍐 and 🍎

CocoPops Tue 15-Apr-25 21:27:04

Thanks NanKate
The evening munchies are due to greed though, not hunger!! I'm off to buy some knitting supplies.
Now that it's light in the evenings I intend to take my dog out for a extra walk or do a bit of gardening sometimes. The spare tyre has got to go

NanKate Tue 15-Apr-25 21:03:24

CocoPops it took me about 3 weeks to get used to not eating anything after dinner. Now the hunger feelings don’t return till breakfast time.

Having half a glass of water with a small amount of my favourite ginger beer, fills me up when I want to avoid food.

CocoPops Tue 15-Apr-25 16:35:45

137.4 lbs today. Slow progress. Finding it hard not to snack after dinner. Think I'll get some knitting on the go to distract me! Cycling more now that the weather is better and enjoying the bountiful cherry tree blossom.

I used to t make my own yoghurt in a flask with some sort of starter and it did its thing in the hot cupboard. I made it for my then baby ( 50 very soon) and we used to eat it too. It tasted fine and I knew what was in it.
We sometimes have breakfast around 10.30/11 and then main meal around 4.30/5. Did that yesterday and I am down a pound today. It’s just keeping it off til Thursday.

Whiff Mon 14-Apr-25 06:50:01

Silverlining I make my own yogurt using Easiyo flask and mixes . I find they taste better than ready made and are lower in cals and the low fat and fat free ones are lower in sugar and thicker than ready made. Whey forms but you just stir it in ready made yogurts have a stabiliser in them so it doesn't happen more added synthetic things to our food. The Easiyo powder makes kilo of yogurt which can keep for 2 weeks in the fridge. But I have 200g at a time . Been making my own for 8 years . I brought the kit off Lakeland but buy my sachets off an independent site they work out cheaper and I can pick exactly what I want . That's what I love about this thread its free and I tried slimming clubs in the 80's and they where fine if you lost weight but treated like a naughty school girl if I put on. Hopefully they are different today .

If I am going out for a cake and cuppa treat with my daughter and grandsons I always look at the book before hand . That's why when I went to the cuppa and cake morning with a group I am a member I choose the 2 squares of carrot cake as they equalled large slice of carrot cake so could count the cals accurately. I can't make carrot cake at home as I haven't been able to grate anything for a few years now. But I never put nuts in mine to lower the cals. This has nuts but so did the picture in the book.

Put on half a pound this week . My own fault but it's just a blip. Must put in more effort as my holiday is getting closer. But I load up on breakfast and don't have lunch and my dinner doesn't include some of things it comes with as I can't eat some foods due to health reasons so ask for extra veg never been refused yet. I stay at primer inns as they have accessible rooms for walking and wheelchair disabled.

Hope you all have a good week . 🤸

silverlining48 Sat 12-Apr-25 12:52:53

The sugar in low cal yoghurt can be very high too. They print O% in large letters on the front but you have to search to find out sugar can be 17% . It’s all there to trick us into believing we are eating something healthy.

silverlining48 Sat 12-Apr-25 12:50:37

Some individual packs of crisps especially those sold in pubs are over 600 cals.

silverlining48 Sat 12-Apr-25 11:19:00

I stayed the same this week. There were reasons, so not surprised .
I have 2 lbs to lose before I reach my first half stone. Aim to do that this week because it’s taken 9 weeks so far, and already cost £50 to lose 5 lbs. Which is crazy. 🤪 £10 a pound. Looking at it that way it’s not cheap.

NanKate Fri 11-Apr-25 20:48:58

Yes Whiff I agree about our book. Something that surprised me is that an average slice of cake with icing or filling, which I regularly used to scoff down, is equivalent to a small meal. 😳

Whiff Fri 11-Apr-25 11:53:51

NanKate that was brilliant of your husband . What I find fascinating about the book isn't just the portion sizes and cals but how little or zero fibre in things you would think would have some in . Went out for the day yesterday and had 2 scoops of ice cream in a dish. For lunch had M&S chicken, veg and grain soup no bread 106 cals . They had tomato and basil which was 99 cals but would have been so filling . And had tea instead of hot chocolate as I had the ice cream .
Think I did bit to much walking as my legs are swollen today so got them up.

But because of my thing about routine had already done my exercises and my pedals before getting the bus . But then again I do them before going to my exercise classes . No wonder I fall asleep watching the TV 😂

Whiff Fri 11-Apr-25 11:40:56

Frugola more freshing in this hot weather. It's already 22 ° in my living room .
I have never had big boobs guess where the weight went from first. Lie on my back and they disappear. Not enough to go under my arms 😂😂. I will always be a pear shape. Bum and thighs are smaller but flabby and wobbly but as I don't wear shorts or go swimming and wear wide legged trousers all the time no one sees but me .

Sillymoo that's a blip or as my cheeky crude brother would say a big xxxx. Leave you to fill it in .
