On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle.

We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears and Apples. I am so grateful to those who have stayed loyal and contributed a lot of useful information and given support, especially Whiff 👍

Do join us, the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.

Pass on any useful diet tips.

You have nothing to lose on this thread, other than weight.

Our mantra is - EAT LESS FOR LIFE.

Tried on Monday to send this had ice in a shop but the pier was to far to walk. Never seen such large pebbles on a beach. Having a great time . But will not weight myself on Sunday already know put lbs on as eating foods I stay clear of. Back to normal eating on Saturday.

Have a good holiday NanKate .

Thanks Allsorts. I haven’t reached my target weight either. I suspect this 5 day hols which starts tomorrow will increase my weight but I am determined to get back track on my return.

Allsorts Wed 14-May-25 07:38:54

7 years is a long time NannaKate and has helped a lot of people.
Unfirtunately I have never reached my target, just off holiday and put on so much weight I am not looking at the scales.
Enjoy your holiday Whiff and NannaKate off today. I think you should definitely treat yourselves.

Have a lovely holiday all. Wish I was there…. smile have fun but keep at least one eye on what’s tempting you.

I am now back to where I was 10 days ago, so if I keep going shoukd lose a little for Thursday weigh day.

NanKate Sun 11-May-25 21:08:37

Have a lovely holiday Whiff. I too go away for a 5 day holiday on Thursday and I too will be having an ice cream or even a 99 😋

MayBee70 Sun 11-May-25 19:24:05

I've realised that Llandudno has a pier! I love piers. Used to go to Clevedon as a child. Please have an ice cream on the pier Whiff and I'll imagine that I'm with you!

Whiff Sun 11-May-25 18:46:20

I go to Llandudno tomorrow until Friday . Thankfully the UTI I started on Friday before last has gone . But even if it hadn't I would still be going away.

Been a year since I meet the lovely MayBee and I had the picture I took of her on our boat trip popped up on my phone . Happy memories. You pick yourself up and get on things like we all do . Nothing stops from our eating less for life campaign.

7 years you should be very proud NanKate as you started a wonderful thread and and friendships have been made between us pears and apples. We have all shared not just weight issues but our lives . It's a happy place to be . ❤️🥂.

Sillymoo well done with the weight loss.

This week put on 2lb . But will try and make good choices on my hols . But it's going to be hot so will definitely have ice creams. My aunt and uncle are picking me up from the station they are 83&86 reminded my aunt I am now 67. They have been married over 60 years. Be lovely to see them and if they want spend the day with them that's great . But rest of the week have things I
want to do myself. I like my independence.

Have a good week fruits 🤸

MayBee70 Sun 11-May-25 10:52:06

Whiff is inspirational. When I’m having health or diet problems I just feel sorry for myself. She picks herself up dusts herself down and battles on.

NanKate Sun 11-May-25 09:54:35

Hope all goes well for you MayBe70.

I think Whiff is on hols, looking forward to hearing from her on her return.

MayBee70 Thu 08-May-25 17:07:36

I’ve made an appointment with my osteopath for just over a weeks time so I need to get my act together over the next week. I suffer from IBS so anything away from my normal routine ( ie staying at home) means I have to eat very carefully for a while. No binging the night before my appointment!

silverlining48 Thu 08-May-25 10:09:28

Will report back in a week

silverlining48 Thu 08-May-25 10:08:55

Congratulations 🥂 and well done to all.

To celebrate I won’t be going for my weigh in later as we have had visitors for a few days who required feeding, so despite my being careful, clearly not careful enough. I will do better fir next week. I may change my mind but just can’t face putting on the pounds I lost last week.

NanKate Thu 08-May-25 08:05:18

HAPPY 7th BIRTHDAY 🎂 PEARS AND APPLES 🥂

I can hardly believe we have been going 7 years, with friendship, laughter, disappointment and most of all not giving up our quest for a slimmer, healthier lifestyle. Our mantra remains the same ‘Eating Less for Life*.

Thanks for ALL your support. Kate 👋👋👋👋

Oh yes it's really hard to find green lasagne.

WI at home this morning and was the same as last week, however lost 1.5lb at SW! Moral ofcthe story iscgo to the meeting. Pleased with that as had VE day bbq on Sunday and street party yesterday. 🇬🇧

MayBee70 Mon 05-May-25 12:32:11

Thanks Whiff. Yes, she is ok now but I still don’t know what brings on these bad tummies. I live in black. I’ve bought colourful clothes in the past ( after watching Trinny and Susannah programmes) and they just end up in the wardrobe. I do add a splash of colour using scarves, though. I don’t know why I buy dresses sometimes. I can’t remember the last time I wore one and I have a wardrobe full of them, mostly unworn! I ended up having a complete meltdown last week and tearfully said how much I hated cooking*and how I’d ended up eating far more than I wanted to and, instead of being away from home and losing weight I’d put weight on. I’m definitely going to start the ball rolling re having a knee replacement. My walking is now far worse than when I saw you last year and I feel like a prisoner in my home these days.
*when I say I hate cooking that isn’t necessarily true. I do like baking and making things like lasagne ( I found a shop that sells green lasagne which I prefer and it’s the first time since I found some in a shop in Ludlow 8 years ago so I bought their entire stock!). I just hate having to meal plan for two people when I just want to eat what I fancy that day which is quite often just a cheese sandwich. And I’d really love to go on holiday and not have to cook and clean every day.

Whiff Mon 05-May-25 11:25:48

MayBee hope your lovely dog is better. I wouldn't put you in black you need brighter colours . Pastel shades would work with a contrasting bright colour. Would match your sparkling personality.

Did start off sunny here but now clouded over. No exercise classes this week as it's bank holiday and our move it or lose instructor on a cruise. So tomorrow can go to cake and cuppa 😋. If I have 2 cakes again no lunch for me . We are at a different place never been before if their cake is bigger then it's only one . Lost 2.5 lb this week hopefully lose more on Sunday ready for Llandudno a week today .

Unfortunately started an UTI so went to the walk in as my GPS closed. Why do they start when they are closed or weekend or bank holiday 🤦. Problem they set my HPX off. Had taxi to there and my daughter came once her husband was home . Had problem talking ,balance off and my walking worse. Had to laugh the nurse went to give me a specimen bottle then saw how much my hands shook so gave me a bowl🤣. Showed my piece of card with which antibiotics work and dosage and needs to be 7 days. When my daughter got them only enough for 5 days . Couldn't understand why I wasn't feeling better yesterday. Knew one of the antibiotics was 3 a day the other sort 2. She had given me Cefalexin which should have been 3 a day but she had put twice a day. So tomorrow have to phone GP and ask for Nitrofurantoin but need 7 days and if I tell them how bad it is hopefully 10.days worth. But will carry on taking the Cefalexin until it's gone which will be Wednesday morning. As it will take couple of days to get the other tablet.

Mind you it was a good job my daughter came as when the nurse asked when I last had an UTI I had forgotten I had one when I went into hospital January.

Hope everyone is fit and healthy. Will do some extra exercises later in the week when I feel better. But still doing my normal ones and my pedalling .
🚴

Happy belated birthday Whiff! Well, my dog continued to be poorly so this time I did start to get worried so it was a trip to the vets today. This time it was the sort of worry that made me not want to eat so I did lose a bit of weight and haven’t binge ate for a day. Vet doesn’t think it’s anything serious thankfully. On the way back I stopped off at Next to try on a dress I’d seen. Never wear dresses but I’d seen it the other day and thought it was something I might wear; long and black made of cotton and quite cheap for a dress. I know that no one looks good in changing rooms but I was shocked at how much weight I’d put on round my hips and thighs. Leggings do tend to hold it all in!

Whiff Thu 01-May-25 07:07:32

Thank you for your birthday wishes. The restaurant my daughter and grandson took me to was wonderful. Beautiful restaurant, fabulous food and served. Had linguine with goats cheese sauce ,sun dried tomatoes, lots of olives ,rocket and basil oil and ice cream sundae for dessert didn't need any dinner I was stuffed.

Happy birthday Whiff

NanKate Wed 30-Apr-25 17:45:16

A very HAPPY BIRTHDAY Whiff from ALL of us Pears and Apples. 👍💐👋

MayBee70 Wed 30-Apr-25 15:47:27

I have to use up some food before the weekend so I’m going to have a smoothie each day. Will break my fast with banana bread and will try to fast for as long as possible.

Sillymoo Wed 30-Apr-25 15:26:06

I braved the meeting scales after the Easter excesses. Pleased to have shed the extra and back to my pre chocolate weight. 3 weeks to hols and 3 above target.....can I do it??

Barbecue tonight which could be healthy and low calorie, but probably won't be!

MayBee70 Wed 30-Apr-25 12:15:44

I’m not too worried about the dog as she has a bad tummy every few months. But I was up with her 5/6 times in the night and she wanders around the garden and it’s exhausting. I do feel sorry for her, though, and worry that her tum is hurting her. I would really like a holiday in which I could read and exercise and not cook/clean etc. The only difference with being at my partners compared to home is that I can’t drive anywhere and I have to cook, because I don’t cook at home. And I have to leave the house spotless as, when he’s not here he lets friends stay. His idea of ‘clean and tidy’ isn’t mine so we argue about it. I bought one of those Pilates exercise hoops the other day and now have a pain in my lower tummy. I’m hoping it’s because of the exercises I’ve been doing. I want to start going to the gym again when I go home.

Whiff Wed 30-Apr-25 07:56:28

I was a page behind so only just reading this page.

MayBee be careful with wholemeal sourdough as it can upset your tummy if you eat to much . I can't have chocolate in my home . My grandsons brought me a Maltesers bunny and a little Lindt bunny as soon as they left I eat them . If I need chocolate for a cake for my craft group or if having the grandsons can't buy the chocolate until the day before. Christmas as soon as I have brought chocolate or biscuits for presents have to wrap them otherwise I will eat them and have to buy replacements. 🤦.

I always feel hungry of a morning but I do my exercises and my pedals before I have my breakfast . Don't feel hungry during the day but I like having my meals at set times when home . It's my love of routine it's how I have coped with my HPX my whole life. Plus my parents brought us up having meals at set times.

Welcome Lesley to the fruits . I am disabled and my mobility is effected but if you would like I could give you some exercises I am sure you could do . My sister in law has MS and exercises and has physio to keep her mobility. She uses a wheelchair when out and friend has osteoporosis since she was 30 over 40 years now and has physio. If you PM and if you don't mind telling me what is wrong I will give you exercises you could do . But if you don't want to I respect your privacy.

I have hereditary Hyperekplexia gene mutation SLC6A5 type 3 which is a mutant gene in my brain receptors it's rare and only having my whole genome genetically tested found out when I was 63 what it was. In 2020 and confirmed where it was also born with a small hole in the side of my heart . I have PAF and on heart medication to regulate it but still miss heart beats, get heart flutters and palpitations occasionally. My mobility has been effected my whole life and fall, lose my balance and numerous other things my HPX effects .

MayBee sorry your dog is poorly again she is lovely and sweet natured.

I don't give my grandsons sweets or chocolate any time as my daughter and my son before the estrangement limit what they can have.

But I do bake cakes and biscuits for them but always ask my daughter if they can have them before making them. But when I have them for the day separately as they are 7&4we always bake as they love cooking with nannie . They are only allowed one cake or biscuits here and take the rest home . I always tell them mommy and daddy are to have some . They try and say but only one , but tell them they have to share equally .

Well think that's that for this week hope I haven't missed anyone out. I to have missed Frug dam forgot the rest of her name and can't go back a page or will lose this post. I hope she is well.

This is a wonderful group but it's not just about weight it's like talking to old friends about what we are up to .

Whiff Wed 30-Apr-25 07:19:22

Unfortunately I gave in to the munchies this week but it was yogurt and fruit unfortunately it took me over my cal allowance every day which means I put 2 lb on. Why is I know I don't need it and even after having a drink to stave it off I still eat it 😡🤦🤦. Trying really hard as I go away on the 12th to Llandudno and will be eating differently but will try pick all the lower cal options . Plus go without lunch. As I do have muesli and yogurt, followed by carbs for breakfast love Premier Inn breakfast selection . Plus have booked the meal deal so that's 2 courses.

I will still do my morning exercises and will walk as much as I can with rests in-between.

silverlining your body is getting used to having less cals a day so it has to adjust itself hence staying the same . Well that's my theory as my body did that when the stones came off. Are you able to do any exercise that gets you as our move it or lose instructor says gets you hot and sweaty but not out of breath. Don't agree with the sweaty bit as a good deodorant deals with that . If you can't find a class you would like to do sit fit ,pilates etc . Move it or lose it has on line exercise routine plus a book. I have brought the book as I can't remember the moves and our instructor is away for the whole of August. I wish she would do most of the exercises the same every week with alternating with different ones but still repeating them after a couple of weeks. I will have a word with her. As I can't be the only one who likes repetition.

That's the great thing about our sit fit instructor we do most the same exercises every week in different order after the stretching. Plus adds a few ones we repeat every few weeks . I can remember all the moves . Have been going for 2 years since January. 10 weeks at move it or lose it .

MayBee could you still cook the meals but make lower cal ones if you give him a bigger portion he shouldn't notice. But I have meet you both and if you explain how unhappy you are with your weight even though I know he will say you are perfect I am sure he will understand and may want to lose a few pounds himself . Can you manage to do a few exercises other than walking . No matter how much pain I am in or if my HPX is playing up I still do my exercises at home and go to my classes each week. In move it or lose it lost my balance twice but I sit by the wall and it stopped me from falling during the stand up exercises.

Well it's my birthday today 67 . Going out for lunch with my daughter and grandson. She text me on Monday and asked if I had plans as I hadn't she sent me the link to the menu to the restaurant she thought I would like to make sure their was food I could and would like to eat. 😋. Will cut down on my breakfast and if we have 2 courses just have my soup for dinner. This is where the book will come in handy because when I come back and count the cals. That's the good thing about Primier inn and Travel lodge they have cals on their menus . Just wish the meal deal had more veggie options. They have beef lasagne but not veggie. I did email about lack of veggie options on the meal deal last year and done so again this year . On the main menu there are lots more.
