On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle.

We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears and Apples. I am so grateful to those who have stayed loyal and contributed a lot of useful information and given support, especially Whiff 👍

Do join us, the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.

Pass on any useful diet tips.

You have nothing to lose on this thread, other than weight.

Our mantra is - EAT LESS FOR LIFE.

Havnt been well these past few days so had to miss SW last night which is annoying as I had lost some weight. So this week I have to be super careful not to gain it all back.

Sillymoo well done for going this morning. You know it makes sense.

Hi All back again, WI this morning at SW and put on 1.5 lb. Should have gone Tuesday but chickened out, thought I'd better bite the bullet today. Am hoping it will motivate me over the weekend.

Take no notice Whiff! I agree this thread is the place to be for losers!

NanKate Wed 19-Feb-25 19:35:23

I agree Whiff we are a lovely bunch of losers 😀

Whiff Wed 19-Feb-25 19:24:21

So glad this is a sane thread with lovely friends . Not like on the weight lose jab thread . Just be judged . But you know me I fight back .

Sounds good to me NanKate!

NanKate Tue 18-Feb-25 11:57:30

Meant to say my recipe is NOT to everyone’s taste.

Whiff Tue 18-Feb-25 11:11:24

Just a quick one why no paperclip is due to problems on Mumsnet. Should be back in a week GNHQ just replied to my email.

NanKate Tue 18-Feb-25 08:17:53

keepingquiet an inch off your waist is good. 👍

NanKate Tue 18-Feb-25 08:16:13

Whiff you have a lot to contend with health wise and if you have stopped counting calories for a while so be it. I know you will be back on track soon.

I bought a recipe book recently written by the late Dr Moseley’s wife with some input from him. There are some easy recipes, as I am not much of a cook.

This would be to everyone’s taste but I had it yesterday for lunch here goes.

Half an avocado crushed, 15 grams feta cheese, 4 broken up walnuts, a handful of parsley, half a tablespoon of olive oil and a few chilli flakes. All mixed up together delicious 450 calories, I added 2 rice cakes and it made an excellent 500 calorie meal and very healthy too.

I only found the app the other day when trying to book a GP appointment. I haven't used it since Covid.

It does have some stuff on there about my appointments etc but to be honest I didn't look at it!

I'm not really interested in looking at my records.

I've had chronic illness all my life and breast cancer twice but I now consider myself reasonably fit and well. I focus on the positive things in my life, of which there are many!

On that note my weight is on a two week plateau. I took a leaf out of your book, Whiff, and ordered an on-line shop this week. It is expensive but it means I have a fridge full of healthy food!

Although my weight is the same I managed to lose an inch from my waist.

Let's see how I we get on this week...only a one pound loss will be something...

Whiff Tue 18-Feb-25 06:13:03

Well done all the losers I mean in lbs 🤣..You are all winners in life. Well had a bad week last week put on again .

I didn't weight or count the cals for my over eating which isn't me. Still did all my exercises as usual but decided to add weight work this week . I have 500g dumbbells and 500g ankle weights. Sit fit was fun yesterday it was tea towel week always enjoy tea towel week . Your arms and shoulders feel it afterwards but I love it. We had a relaxation bit at the end . But I never shut my eyes so that I don't get startled if I did I would stiffen and not beable to move for a while . But I can relax with my eyes open .

No move it or lose it today out instructor is ill. Had a nice chat with her last night had a surprise she said she was 60 I would have said 50. Plus congratulated her on getting engaged. One of my sit fit friends goes to church with her and she got engaged the weekend .

Got back my mind set back yesterday. Making 2 cakes today but wouldn't be having a piece until tomorrow at my craft group. One will be gluten free as it's my first time at the group and don't know if anyone is gluten free and I don't like missing people out . Be my hybrid lemon marmalade drizzle cake . 20 going including me so at least I will make enough of each cake . Everything will be bagged and GF on the correct cake . I always make sure not to cross contaminate foods.

Thursday saw the neurologist and he had a student Dr with him. Because of my HPX it confuses things . Why I collapsed on the Tuesday was my BP plummeted and he said it was well documented as it happened on the acute cardiac ward. I just thought I fell asleep 🤦. Doesn't think I had stroke or TIA but a migraine. But I have a very visible pulse the right side of my neck which he hadn't seen one so visible before so had a feel. But had trouble finding the pulse in my neck on the left side but before he can say for definite it was a migraine he wants a scan done one my neck to check the arteries have no blockages . Hopefully done in a few weeks . I explained about my HPX he said it was a page when he was studying . But he is friends with my neurologist so will let him know he had seen me and what happened.

Spoke to my neurologists secretary on Monday last week and she sent him an email as I wanted to increase my Clonazepam while we chatted he replied so take 3 tablets a day and my legs are moving better again . Also started taking my statin on Wednesday ordered the tablets on Monday and they where delivered on Tuesday so far no side effects.

Saw my blood test results sodium levels down again so booked another blood test it's with the same phlebotomy nurse but will tell her not to enter anything into the fragility index score thing on the computer before she takes my blood . Not having that on my records again .
Makes me wonder how many people bother to check there medical records? I put the NHS app on my phone when covid hit so I could order my tablets . But it's shows all test results, medical records, appointments , medications plus any ones you are allergic to plus your medical condition. Even when you have had your flu and covid jabs .

Anyway have a good week fruits 😀

Well done Nan Kate, snap!

silverlining48 Thu 13-Feb-25 17:06:55

Walking is good in many ways but it’s the healthy eating plan you have to get back to keeping quiet. Dont despair if you stayed the same this week, Your meal tonight sounds fine, perhaps load it with a bit more veg to stop you feeling hungry…says me who has just finished a pkt of crisps, , low cal, but crisps all the same.
The topping I mentioned can be used for shepherd pie too and it was delicious.
Congratulations n the doctors appt. I am green with envy.

NanKate Thu 13-Feb-25 14:54:22

Surprisingly I have lost 1.5 pounds this week. Lovely to feel my shrinking waist, but still have a fat tum. 😏

keepingquiet Wed 12-Feb-25 21:57:58

Well done Silverlining48! I like this alternative mash idea.

My weight was static this week- I walked a lot but still not back on the healthy eating plan.

I think the weather is getting me down and I'm back in the bad habits zone.

I can make up all kinds of excuses though- so it was back on the grilled salmon with rice and broccoli tonight!

Good for you resisting the labelling Whiff!

I have managed to get a GPs appointment for next Thursday- that's an achievement in itself these days!

silverlining48 Wed 12-Feb-25 16:16:24

My dh made a fish pie yesterday and instead of using mash potatoes, he mashed swede with cauliflower as a topping and it was delicious. 🤤

silverlining48 Wed 12-Feb-25 16:15:08

I understand why you are upset about being labelled unfairly Whiff. My dh had a liver function test many years ago which was high. Years later he spotted ?alcaholic on his notes.
Clearly there had been a mix up as his next tests were all normal, but the note about alcohol? had remained on his notes for some years.
Keep on keeping on.

Week 2 and I lost another 1.5 today.

Whiff Tue 11-Feb-25 15:18:46

Well done silverlining nice surprise for you. I put on 3 lb on Sunday which is the day I count as my weight but today lost the 3lb. My body drives me mad . But I will keep plodding on.
Went to move or lose it this morning and she gave us a good work out . Glad to say numbers are increasing as the first week there where 4 of us this week 9. Had a nap after lunch that's how much we worked. Sit fit was fun yesterday next week it's tea towel.week . Had phone call from the hospital got an appointment at the stroke clinic on Thursday afternoon. Mind you was a bit insulted when I had the email confirmation and it said geriatric clinic . I know I am 66 but don't consider myself geriatric yet.

I was even more insulted when I went for a blood test at my surgery on Friday. I have the NHS app on my phone and look every week especially after seeing someone. The nurse had written which arm she took the blood and labelled it . Then I read severe fragility, fragility index score 0.361. I didn't even know she was assessing me nor did she ask me any questions and was only with her less than 10 mins. I know to my cost when wrong things are written on your medical records. I am disabled not frail . Speaking to a nurse tomorrow and getting it taken off my records. I found out yesterday after phoning the surgery it's a NHS app which asseses you when data is put in . The nurse did not ask my permission to to do this as I would have refused. I did start a thread on the health forum and but the consensus was it doesn't matter. But to me it does. One person said it was so I could get PIP but I am already on enhanced PIP for living and enhanced PIP for mobility indefinitely awarded in 2023.

In 1988 I was labelled by hospital drs attention seeking ,a fake and mentally ill. Which meant I had to see a psychiatrist before my GP could sent referrals to consultant who might help me . I will not be labelled unfairly again .

silverlining48 Sat 08-Feb-25 14:15:12

Thanks keeping quiet. Yes I was surprised!

silverlining48 Sat 08-Feb-25 14:14:24

If I remember, to work off an apple you woukd need to be on a treadmill for half hour. Imagine how much exercise is needed for 3 meals a day. You Woukd be exercising all day every day. Exercise does not really help with weight loss, but it’s still good to keep fit and healthy of course.

keepingquiet Fri 07-Feb-25 17:22:55

Well done silverlining48!

Yes, here's to next week. I have walked a lot this week so maybe that will compensate for all the unhealthy eating...?

silverlining48 Fri 07-Feb-25 10:14:46

P S It was my first week when a loss is expected but we have had friends staying so a four amount of food and wine was around as a temptation so yes, am surprised and relieved.
Here’s to next week …..

silverlining48 Fri 07-Feb-25 10:12:01

To my surprise 😦 I lost 2 lbs at SW last night. Really wasn’t expecting a loss, so no embarrassment for me. This time ! grin

keepingquiet Fri 07-Feb-25 08:13:29

No loss is better than a gain Nankate!

I will be glad if I stay the same this week as I have been eating a lot of junk...no one's fault but my own.
