On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle.

We now have a small band of ā€˜regulars’ called Pears and Apples. I am so grateful to those who have stayed loyal and contributed a lot of useful information and given support, especially Whiff šŸ‘

Do join us, the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.

Pass on any useful diet tips.

You have nothing to lose on this thread, other than weight.

Our mantra is - EAT LESS FOR LIFE.

Keep going Coco.

Ooh I used to love a bowl of coco pops!

CocoPops Mon 03-Nov-25 15:39:07

Oh dear. I gained a couple of lbs. Now 141 6.
I completely lost my motivation. So...I have loaded up with groceries and bought lots of lovely veggies and have no excuse not to make healthy grub and get back on the wagon. Battle on ladies.

I have had cellulitis twice, it was nowhere near my cellulite but my goodness it was painful, needing very strong anti bios.
Shirley, it’s ok to enjoy birthdays etc, but get on those scales.
It’s a new week, you can do this.

Shirleyw Mon 03-Nov-25 01:32:04

Oh yes whiff, think it is called cellulite the dimpling on skin , that was a popular subject years ago wasnt it , like you say, don’t hear of that now šŸ˜‚.

I didn’t go on scales , darent as like some of you , had the grandchildren during half term also a birthday party yesterday which involved chocolate cake , difficult to keep up with the healthy eating

Have a good week all….

Nankate It’s worth a try, or there may be a nearby group who do it if yours doesn’t.

NanKate Thu 30-Oct-25 20:55:54

Thanks I’ll check out the U3A. I am a member.

silverlining48 Wed 29-Oct-25 09:44:06

Also do tai chi which I didn’t expect to enjoy, but I do.

silverlining48 Wed 29-Oct-25 09:42:38

Nan Kate there would probably be a mindfulness group at a local u 3 a. Might be worth checking.
I have been doing mindfulness at ours and met some very nice people. Not best friends, but pleasant company.

Weighed this morning as usual and 2 of the 3 lbs gained this weekend have gone. Pouf ..and it’s gone. My question is where does it all disappear to.?

As to measuring hefty thighs, each of mine are bigger than some ( thin ish) peoples waists and I too appear to have shrunk to 5’ nothing . Not a great combination.

SW tomorrow so will continue to be careful. Keep on keeping on fruits.

NanKate Wed 29-Oct-25 07:45:14

Good to read your post as ever Whiff.

I’m off to Tai Chi today. I am really enjoying it. I wish there was a Mindfulness class near me Whiff.

Onward and downward folks.

If I have water retention because my legs are swollen I can put on 6lb in a day . Then once the swelling goes down I could fill a lake 🤣. It is very easy to put weight on. Read years ago that to lose 1lb you need to eat 3,500 cals per week than your body needs. But everyone's body is different so how do we know how many calories our body needs to work 🤷.

All charts are for average person but what is an average person? Tried to find out an average height for a woman is 5' 4". Found out this year when they measured me in hospital I am 5' 1" I have lost an inch . Why couldn't it have been off my thighs 😁.

If losing weight was easy we all be size 12 no wobbly, flabby or wrinkly bits . Thought just popped into my mind no one mentions cellus ( that skin supposed to look like orange peel on your bum and thighs ) anymore . I don't even think it was spelt that way. But hope you know what I mean .

There is an Irish woman pops up on Facebook when scrolling. She had my laughing yesterday she decided to measure her thighs and then her head and her thighs where bigger than her head. What she said was hilarious. She has posted lots of videos and they are funny. Plus there is a woman who does parodies of songs about things like the heat ,weight , menopause etc.

What I find unfair men or should say the men who have been in my life can lose weight easier than me and do it eating more . 😔.

Keep going fruits one day we will win even if it takes years. The main thing don't give up.

No singing and exercise class today as we can't have the room . But making gingerbread biscuits for Mindfulness class tomorrow. So will have to test one or two 😁. But will count the cals . 🤸

Sometimes you can’t explain an unexpected gain. I’m waiting a week till I weigh myself, as I too feel I have gained and want to give myself time to lose it again !

silverlining48 Tue 28-Oct-25 14:54:17

I put on 3 lbs in 3 days, despite taking care (most of the time). Doesn’t seem fair. šŸ˜’

Moth62 I ate more this weekend when my son and grandson were visiting. Just go day by day. The feeling of looser clothes is the bonus for reducing your food intake.

Moth62 Mon 27-Oct-25 19:06:21

I have to confess that I have also slipped off the wagon. We had gc here last week and I gave up trying to eat sensibly. I needed the calories for energy ( or so I reasoned…) Finding it difficult to get back in the wagon again. How come it’s so easy to fall off but not to climb back on?

silverlining48 Mon 27-Oct-25 18:58:12

Love not Kobe …. Where did that come from ?

silverlining48 Mon 27-Oct-25 18:57:02

I am just back this evening from 4 days visiting my friend who shows her Kobe by providing massive meals with plenty of cake as well as a lot if meals out which is always awkward. ,
Rather dreading weighing myself tomorrow morning but did try my best without spoiling the visit.
Fingers and toes crossed….

StripeyGran we all have slip ups. But it doesn't matter . The main thing is to kept going. Each day is a fresh start. That's the great thing about this thread we all know how hard it is but we are here for eachother not just about losing weight but life in general.

Shirley running after grandchildren will keep you fit . At Mindfulness class I bake so I can have a treat. Our teacher takes brought things in and I had a custard doughnut can't remember last time I had one it's been over 6 years for definite as I moved here then . I loved every mouth full. Forgot how good they are far better than jam.

Much to my amazement stayed the same weight this week. I had made Parkin and plum jam fairy cakes . I always pack them into bags so people can take them home . Had the ends of the parkin and a fairy cake the day before. Have to test them 😁.

It's only taken me 6 years but finally managed to set my oven clock to the correct time . Tried in March so it's been 5 hours ahead of time since then as I gave up .

Have a good week fruits 😊

Shirleyw Sun 26-Oct-25 19:58:32

stripeygran I know how that is, so easy to go astray, well done for saying. Weve all done that on here , just get back on track After your week away.
I went ā€˜off piste’ this weekend as family were down…we all had a dominoes last night and cake washed down with šŸ·šŸ„ƒšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

We have the grandchildren this week for a few days, they will keep me fit , I hope to eat sensibly then.

Have a good week all

StripeyGran Sun 26-Oct-25 07:34:46

Oh fruity friends, it's all going a bit wrong.

Lost 6 and a half pounds with SW. Boring, bland and not eating a great deal. Because I'm away next week and missing group, I have been eating as I please. I need to claw this back. Just popping to fess up and for a bit of accountability.
Have a good week ahead all.

Shirleyw Thu 23-Oct-25 02:47:12

Aah isn’t it just girls šŸ˜‹ yum yum….

Awake silly hours as per and it’s bucketing down and I can hear my gutter dripping…..another job for D/h when dry šŸ˜‚

Whiff Wed 22-Oct-25 19:56:26

Licking the bowl a must . Plus the cooks treat . The little bit that's left from making cakes ,scones, biscuits etc that's not big enough for full portion . šŸ˜‹

NanKate Wed 22-Oct-25 17:04:09

Licking the bowl shirleyw one of the great pleasures in life šŸ˜€

Shirleyw Tue 21-Oct-25 20:34:38

Remained the same this last couple of weeks. Made Christmas cakes and ā€˜licked the bowl’ šŸ˜‚.
I have been keeping up with my steps and running.
