Are you a secret Mounjaro user?

I’ve been using Mounjaro since January this year and only person I’ve told is my husband. Not told DS or DD. Think DS would be OK but DD definitely would be on the judgey side.

Just sometimes feel I need a place to share my successes/struggles with people who won’t tell me I’m doing wrong and lecture me on the “correct” way to loose weight.

If anyone who is secretly taking Mounjaro needs a place to chat please feel free to add to this thread.

Well done for taking the leap too!!

It was announced on the radio this morning that Nice has agreed for this to be prescribed by gp ‘s on the nhs to people with a bmi of more than 35. The prescribing will be slow take up to 12 years so it doesn’t overburden the nhs. It was said patients shoukd be monitored.

I could maybe do with losing a few pounds, but then I have read that as we get older it is good to keep a bit of weight on us (apparently, in case we get ill and we need some reserves to fight with) so that’s my excuse. I am 5 foot six and 11 stone two at the moment.
I don’t understand all the injections, the gastric sleeves all these things that are meant to suppress appetite.
Later on I will probably have a couple of mince pies or some chocolate,I wont be having them because I’m hungry. I will have them just because I fancy them. 🤷‍♀️

But could get it o er the counter ???

Mt61 - they are available from registered online pharmacies. They are not available over the counter. Mounjaro is solely prescribed for weight loss and not to diabetes patients. If you search for a registered online pharmacy - I won’t say which pharmacy I get mine from (don’t want to be accused of advertising!) but you then have to complete an in depth health questionnaire, supply a dated photograph and ID. If they feel you are a candidate to be approved they will then prescribe and also provide a follow up service to check on how you are doing.

I can confirm this. I am coming into my 3rd week on it and the appetite suppression is very good still on 2.5mg. I have lost a lot already. I am pretty pleased. It also reduces the desire for alcohol which is great.

How is your weight journey going Oldcodger?

I don't know why there were several threads about this product and I suspect advertising.

It's irresponsible to encourage people on a forum like Gransnet to buy a drug which could potentially be damaging imo.

It's been through safety tests and do you think there are no health issues around being overweight? If this drug enables people to become a normal weight then it will decrease their health issues.

No you can't. It has to be after a consultation with a pharmacist and with back up photos/videos and proof of ID and your GP is informed.

My niece recently confided in me that she has been on the weight loss jabs for a few months and has lost 3 stones. She is in her 40s. She doesn’t want her parents to know because they would say she is wasting a lot of money.

She says she feels really well.

There is a very interesting book”what we don’t talk about when we talk about fat” that examines the way people feel free to comment, insult and judge other people’s weight. I think there is a view that being overweight is some sort of sin and you must be punished. Drugs that help are seen as cheating. I used Mounjaro for a few months and have lost the weight. It was amazing and silenced the food noises in my head. I am working hard now to keep the weight off. You also have to exercise or you will lose muscle rather than fat. I told people and they were judggy about it!

Whatever it takes to lose weight is ok in my mind.

I decided last October to lose weight. My doctor said it would help the pain in my knee from osteoporosis.

I have been calorie counting and kept to under 1,500 calories a day. The first few weeks were hard but slowly and surely I began to lose that mind set which was trying to get me to snack.

Here’s what I did in case it helps others who want to do it this way. I will attach the front cover of a brilliant photographic book that has been my bible. I followed one or two Dr Mosley tips such as not eating after my evening meal until breakfast the next day. Making some of his simple meals which were delicious and low calorie. Walking for 20 - 25 minutes a day.

It has taken me all this time to lose just over a stone. My knee no longer hurts and I have gone down a dress size.

I have now included in my diet an occasional glass of wine but am trying to keep to about 1,600 Cals a day to maintain my weight loss.

I have an underactive thyroid hence the slowness in weight reduction.

Whichever method you use, good luck.

I’ve REPORTED this as the Poster is offering a gift in return for using her name.

Didn't realise it had actually posted!!

I offer no recommendations, condemnation, advice just observation. My, GD’s best friend, both aged 26, had been using Mounjaro for a few months now.
She was a big girl, tall and well built, she goes to the gym regularly and has been eating sensibly also giving up alcohol totally.
She has lost 4 stone.
She looks fantastic, her face has contoured and she is actually beautiful.
She is so happy with herself and the huge compliments she is getting that I should hate to bring her down by asking if she is happy that she is doing the right thing.
Am I being silly?

Jewelle Mon 16-Jun-25 16:42:10

Just a little fyi - she was always beautiful you just chose not to see it because she was bigger

AlysonN Mon 16-Jun-25 22:11:56

@usedtobeblonde that's so heartening to hear. Providing she remains healthy in body and mind then all is good and if prescribed by a reputable pharmacy then her GP will have been informed and checking in with her (regular bloods etc).

But she will live longer, and, not suffer with diabetes. 🤷‍♀️

How do we know this? We have NO real idea of the eventual side effects. Slim people, mainly über slim people, do suffer from specific issues too. Heart, cholesterol, all sorts. I have 3 friends in their late 70s whose bones are crumbling, due to avoiding all fats all their life and their obsession with being VERY thin.

My point was that her face must also have been beautiful beforehand unless she had also had a face transplant. It wasn’t about the health aspect. It implies that she was ugly beforehand. I thought that sounded cruel.

Usedtobeblonde Tue 17-Jun-25 14:50:41

I can assure you you I am not and have never been a cruel person.
I did not imply she was ugly but now her face has slimmed and contoured she is stunning.
Do not twist my words.

Flur Tue 17-Jun-25 17:17:28

When I lost 4 stone just before my 50th birthday, several people didn't recognise me at first, then they said you've not just lost weight you look really (beautiful, stunning or some such). I did actually look better, my posture, my clothes, I smiled a lot and enjoyed life. Losing weight can make you look beautiful. I am not being boastful i hope, I am 78 now. I have kept the weight off.

AlysonN Tue 17-Jun-25 23:48:04

Mounjaro is not for everyone which is why only reputable pharmacies like Medexpress do thorough health screening and keeps your GP informed but I would always say ask your GP first which is what I did.

I don't use it but have battled with my weight nearly all my life. Totally get how difficult it is. I'm trying to lose weight by eating less and walking. I put on a stone during Covid Pandemic but couldn't lose it. Trying to walk extra in the good weather as need to lose this stone. Whether it works is anybody's guess. Good luck with the Mountjaro/ Weight Loss.

Homestead62 Wed 18-Jun-25 00:11:38

Btw I wouldn't tell anybody either if I was on it. They really dont need to know.

Allsorts Thu 26-Jun-25 07:22:45

Unless I had diabetes I would not use the drug. It never ceases to amaze me the chances people take with unnecessary drugs and operations. It's their choice but if you must use it go through your Doctor,
