Corbyn has said his future government will add LGBT history to the school carriculum,

Yes ? No?

Well you better get some research done and get a book written with female explorers scientists etc , at our Convent school 60 years ago we knew about women who were wonderful , no word of gender changing I'm afraid ,we were all aware of which senior girls loved each other and which teachers lived together , but you get your book in the schools and we will all be liberated

Mountbatton was an openly gay prominant royal

notanan Tue 01-Nov-16 22:04:35

(technically aristocrat)

aggie Tue 01-Nov-16 22:05:29

so ??????????

notanan Tue 01-Nov-16 22:05:32

you think there's no room for improvement now then Aggie? we're as good as we're going to get when it comes to acceptance and equality?

aggie Tue 01-Nov-16 22:06:12

soon we will have to defend being heterosexual !!

notanan Tue 01-Nov-16 22:08:43

so???

so he is talked about in schools, it's not much extra work to also mention that he was the first member of our current Royal family to be openly gay, a brave move at the time.. move on to more about his role in history..

just make it visible, not hard or confusing.

humans are as they are and if we were perfect we would accept what didn't scare the horses , but we are not perfect . By the way I am friends with most people regardless of their orientation , I just don't need it shoved in my face all the time

aggie Tue 01-Nov-16 22:12:31

I don't think he was brave , just sex mad and stupid

notanan Tue 01-Nov-16 22:17:00

having what shoved in your face? stating someone's identity/sexuality doesn't involved drawing a picture of their love making with cross sections, arrows and a helpful key Aggie grin

Unless of course you just can't help yourself form imagining it as soon as someone mentions their orientation that is.. that's your own cross to bear if so I'm afraid wink

Ana Tue 01-Nov-16 22:17:15

Oh, that made me laugh Aggie! grin

Anniebach Tue 01-Nov-16 22:18:43

He was not openly gay, he was bi sexual , and homosexuality was illegal for most of his life. He was a minor Royal and what did he add to the world being gay/bi/heterosexual . Oscar Wilde yes his sexuality is important and is taught . Sexuality is only of any interest in learning if it played a part in the subjects work/achievements

notanan Tue 01-Nov-16 22:19:39

I don't think he was brave , just sex mad and stupid

to some degree I agree, he got to do things an ordinary person at the time wouldn't have been allowed to do, you could say it that way

aggie Tue 01-Nov-16 22:21:35

No one ever "stated their identity/sexuality " to me ! I move in more polite circles . I don't need a map , and I prefer to keep my own private , what's wrong with that ?

Anniebach Tue 01-Nov-16 22:21:35

Suppose what could be said about Mountbatten was being a minor Royal saved him from being arrested for breaking the law

notanan Tue 01-Nov-16 22:21:51

Unless they're hetrosexual, and then it's okay to learn a bit about the person behind the invention/story/discovery.

notanan Tue 01-Nov-16 22:23:52

Really? nobody ever introduces their partners to you? ever? never announce their engagements? Never invite you weddings where the groom declares how much they love the bride?, tells you if they've fallen in love, never? wow!

aggie Tue 01-Nov-16 22:26:30

Groan ! getting daft now I am away to bed .......... on my own thank goodness ! Just had DD3 on the phone telling me her woes , DS1 and 3 are ringing tomorrow . Night night xxx

notanan Tue 01-Nov-16 22:29:01

OOo hope the DSs are polite enough to not mention to you if they chose to get married then wink

gillybob Tue 01-Nov-16 22:30:34

So do we now disect every person from history in terms of their sexual orientation?

For example, I haven't got a clue whether Florence Nightingale was heterosexual, lesbian, bisexual whatever and nor should it matter. Was Albert Einstein gay? Was he bisexual? I don't know. Does it matter? Why would it be relevant?

notanan Tue 01-Nov-16 22:36:45

we already do mention manys straight relationship and straight love affairs when teaching history or poetry etc. This already happens.

gillybob Tue 01-Nov-16 23:01:24

Surely only the ones that are relevant in which case we do mention gay relationships too. As Anniebaxh said earlier we know Oscar Wilde was homosexual because it is/was relevant.

daphnedill Tue 01-Nov-16 23:11:11

Exactly, notanan.

I doubt very much if Oscar Wilde is studied below A level, apart from perhaps 'The Importance of being Ernest'.

Anniebach Tue 01-Nov-16 23:15:34

Homosexual practice became legal in 1967, not a vast amount of history post 1967 compared to pre 1967 is there ?

This is now just nonsense , facts - we have had three queens of the UK , even a pea brain can work out more male monarchs will be spoken of . Women did not captain ships and sail off searching for new lands .

The last attempted of invasion of the U.K. by the French was prevented by - drum roll - a woman , Jemima Fawr , I was taught this in junior school.

Anniebach Tue 01-Nov-16 23:16:40

Wrong Daphne sorry
