Hope I'm not posting out of turn, but I noticed the other thread had reached 1000!

Evening all. Glad you had a good shop smiles. I've heard it's calmed down around here too and they have the queues outside and perspex shields at the tills.
I've had a quiet productive day today, a bit of sewing, knitting, and fixing. And we sowed a few salad seeds. Plus a board game with DH.
I did have a bath after our last big shop, partly to make sure I was clean, and partly because lugging shopping around makes me ache.

Smileless2012 Fri 27-Mar-20 19:45:30

I know what you mean hugshelp lugging shopping around makes me ache too and as Mr. S. is still unable to lift anything too heavy for at least another 2 weeks, I'm the lugger!

Problem is, he helped pack the shopping and forgot that it's me not him who has to carry it up one flight of stairs as our kitchen is in the first floorhmm.

On a brighter note, as he said today, "who needs to go to a gym". I knew my weight training would come in handy one daysmile.

Rhinestone….someone on here spoke of it. I think it was their husband, but I don't know anyone personally who is doing that.

Namsnanny Fri 27-Mar-20 20:43:05

Smileless ….Then there's the putting it all away!
Now all you have to do is plan the meals.

We ventured out today, and found the M&S almost empty.

No the food shopping has NOT improved Smileless. I am going to pick ours up today . We will see if they had everything we and my mother ordered. Sickness has tripled overnight and our .,?!&$ President
is fighting with our governor calling her names. Honestly this scares me so now. The hospitals are begging for materials and some nurses are wearing garbage bags for protection. Some are washing their face masks. We knew about this virus in January but our government wasn’t prepared. And the stress of “ what if we get sick and die and don’t ever see our EC again” is too much to bear.

Smileless2012 Sat 28-Mar-20 12:49:57

Oh dear Rhinestone I'm sorry you're so anxious but it's hardly surprising in the circumstances. We rely on those in charge to listen to the experts and follow their advice, not to stick their head's up their arse and make a terrible situation even worse.

Sending you love and hugs across the pond x

Smileless2012 Sun 29-Mar-20 10:30:31

Well I know British Summer time begins today because we put our clocks forward one hour last night, but could someone tell the weather!! It's freezing here this morning.

I hope you're doing OK. It's difficult being unable to see loved ones but thank goodness for the internet or our sense of isolation would feel much worse.

We're hoping to face time dear son in Aus. today. It's rather worrying him being there as they still seem to be pretty lax so we're hoping he'll fill us in and we'll be reassured that the authorities there are taking this seriously.

Rhinestone Sun 29-Mar-20 12:32:29

We went on daylight savings time the beginning of March so the extra daylight at night does help.
My x mother in law passed away yesterday. I called my X to give condolences but I texted my ES the same. Afterall I was in the family for 15 years. I don’t expect a response. It will be interesting to see if he talks to his sister at the funeral since they are only allowing a limited amount of immediate family.

Smileless2012 Sun 29-Mar-20 12:39:33

I'm sorry to hear about your ex m.i.l. Rhinestoneflowers.

As you say it will be interesting to see if your ES talks to his sister.

Namsnanny Sun 29-Mar-20 13:07:35

Rhinestone .. Condolences flowers. Tricky situation for them both, I should imagine.

Your right Smiless such a cutting wind here brrrrrr!

Still, I feel better if I can get outside so it's double trousers and thick scarf for me!

Thinking of you all smile

Smileless2012 Sun 29-Mar-20 14:29:57

Double trousers, what a good idea Namsnanny I'll have to give that a gosmile.

Smileless2012 Sun 29-Mar-20 19:30:37

Just had a roast chicken Sunday dinner with all the trimmings. Enough cold meat left over for a meal tomorrow and the carcass saved for homemade chicken soup.....lovelysmile.

Face timed DS in Aus. He's going into work for now but all schools are closed to pupils.

Mr. S. has been trying to sell his old, but good quality bike for a few weeks and decided today to advertise it on a local site FOC for a key worker.

A lovely young man contacted us. He's a baker and his wife's a nurse. He works about 3 miles away and has been catching the bus, but now he has Mr. S's. bike he'll ride to work.

He was so pleased as catching the bus was worrying himsmile.

hugshelp Sun 29-Mar-20 20:32:21

Condolences Rhinestone and sorry things are so tough for you atm.
Has indeed been a cold one, we had a little snow flurry this morning.
What a lovely gesture by MrS, smiles. A man in a local neighbourhood group who is currently working from home advertised his car as free to loan to a keyworker if he could get them insured, which I thought was a generous offer.

Smileless2012 Sun 29-Mar-20 22:27:45

Yes it was hugshelp and a very generous offer from your neighbour toosmile.

Namsnanny Mon 30-Mar-20 00:10:03

Good news (if only for now) from your son Smileless, isn't technology great, remember Airmail letters?

That was a good idea for the bike. I'm sure it will be appreciated.

Re: the double trousers, I have a really soft pair of jimjam bottoms that I save for just that purpose smile and I needed them today!

welbeck Mon 30-Mar-20 00:29:03

the female version of long johns, which i've seen packaged as
'long janes', are also useful. failing that, common or garden leggings/thick tights, or anything really to make an extra layer.
like a dry suit for divers, it keeps a layer of warm air; needed when it's chilly around the trossacks.

crazyH Mon 30-Mar-20 00:32:07

Oh I so wanted a Sunday Roast today - wish I had joined you Smileless !! I usually go to my daughter's for Sunday Lunch but with all that's going on and her children at their Dad's, she decided to have a chill-out day . So I managed with Ham and chips ?

Smileless2012 Mon 30-Mar-20 09:28:41

It would be so much harder without the technology we have today Namsnanny. I heard on the news this morning that Aus. is now restricting groups of 10 people to 2, which is reassuring.

I've never heard of 'long janes' before welbeck.

Wish you could have joined us too crazy. I hope you enjoyed your ham and chipssmile.

Smileless2012 Mon 30-Mar-20 15:04:08

Feeling rather pleased with myself. Having thought about doing some exercise everyday last week as I can't go to the gym, and not doing anything, I did a 30 minute work out this morninggrin.

I blew the cob webs off my exercise ball and made use of my dumb bells, had the radio on and got too it. I must have worked reasonably hard as I can definitely feel that I've done something.

I then finished off the chicken soup I was making from yesterday's carcass and we enjoyed that for lunchsmileand there's enough left over for tomorrow.

Hope you're all finding ways of keeping busy.

Take care dear friends x

hugshelp Mon 30-Mar-20 20:19:13

Goodness you have been a busy bee smiles
We popped over to our Dds to swap a few essentials and had a long distance chat with us sat on the front of our car and her and her partner in the doorway. Ooh I'm missing shared hugs but was good to see them.
A very old friend, that we lost touch with 30 years ago messaged hubby out of the blue this morning. Will be interesting to see how that conversation goes.

Starblaze Mon 30-Mar-20 20:26:00

I've had a wonderful day reorganising. I also found my gransnet password again after another time stuck reading and unable to comment you will all be happy to know! There is some use to being stuck indoors with nothing to do but tidy. I'm starting to wonder if I can still order a skip, there's a lot of old rubbish around.

Smileless2012 Mon 30-Mar-20 20:35:24

It's good to keep busy if you can hugshelp far better to go to bed tired rather than bored.

I'm glad you managed to have a chat with your D and her partner even without the hugs.

That's interesting as an old friend of Mr. S's. who he hasn't spoken to for ages 'phoned him this evening. Maybe this virus is bringing out a need in some to reconnectsmile.

Smileless2012 Tue 31-Mar-20 13:39:50

How's everyone doing?

Felt rather stiff this morning when I got up so must have done a good work out yesterday. Done another one today which will one of two possible outcomes; 1) I'll feel even stiffer in the morning or 2) I'll have worked some of today's stiffness out; here's hoping for number 2.

Had a 'phone call from a friend this morning who said while she was in Aldi yesterday she heard one of the check out staff call out that a customer had stolen his hand sanitiser!!! Unbelievable isn't it.

Popping down to our local Premier shop shortly for some milk and bread. It's a lovely day here so I'll enjoy getting out into thesunshineif only briefly.

Starblaze Tue 31-Mar-20 14:46:37

Oh you should try yoga for the stiffness Smileless I feel amazing after a session.

Madgran77 Tue 31-Mar-20 15:29:29

Pilates is my "go to" ...started it a couple of years ago after a bad fall which damaged my back. It certainly helps the on-going back problem but it also deals with any stiffness, and I think helps my flexibility. It might help with "workout" stiffness too.

I went off to Iceland this morning...gave up queuing in a pretty short queue of 10 after an argument broke out between 3 queuers who each thought they should be in front of each other!! Popped into Tesco Express and got what my neighbour needed there instead.
