Estrangement

What are you doing for self care today?

I've been taking my medication on time. Seems simple but it's hard to remember to take care of myself sometimes.

I also ordered myself an electric blanket today. I struggle to get off to sleep at night with aches and pains and restless legs. A friend lent me one to try out. This is life changing!

I looked in the mirror and see my mouth has developed a definite downturn that never used to be there, I see frown lines that never used to be there. (I never frowned before because I was told as a child that my face would get stuck!!)

Estrangement has changed me. For self care I am smiling and doing face massage, eating well and dancing to get good endorphins.

I'm being terrible at self care, my girls wanted a new more grown up room so I'm painting which means the entire house will look like it needs redoing and I will be stuck on the hamster wheel for a while.

Especially when I am not physically recovered from illness.

Self care: long hot bath with book.

Cottage pie, not shepperds pie!

You sound like me and Mr. S. freedomfromthepastsmile.

We're at our lodge now for a week having just had 4 nights away in our motor home. This retirement lark is greatsmile.

I had lunch with my husband and then accompanied him to buy shoes. It was great fun as we are jokesters with each other so are always laughing.

We finally have some fall temperatures here, so I am enjoying that as well.

Husband care today

It's been a stressful time and I'm exhausted. He is cooking a shepperds pie for tomorrow so I don't have to cook.

I love this man

Staying home after a long day out yesterday. Just pootling about, weeding, ironing, cleaning Wiggy's cage, etc. Then some Netflix later.

There is a lot of really noisy building work next to me that has made sitting in the garden with a tea difficult because the loud noises make me jump.

They don't seem to be achieving much except moving dirt around but I'm not a builder so I expect there is method to the madness.

We will all miss that field, it was a nice place to walk.

I'm not out with the neighbours harassing them because that doesn't help anything but....

I have noticed the office/break room they have put down is completely wonky and I am enjoying thinking that when they want a nice cup of tea they will have to do it feeling slightly unblanaced lol

Ah everyone's way ahead of me today! Some really good self care going on.

I am in need of a job with more hours. I've been putting it off because I didn't want to let down a new employer if my health didn't improve enough.

I think it's time now though and I'm ready for a new challenge so I'm updating my CV today

Just come back from walking Peggy which always makes me feel more positive.

Nothing planned so back to my knitting - v. calming. ?

Planted the plants I brought yesterday at the garden centre my daughter and grandson took me to into pots. Must be made had to fill the pots up with compost first. Why do I decide to garden when I have an exercise class this afternoon ??. Hopefully burnt off plenty of calories by end of the day.

Away for a couple of days. Lovely canal walk, stopped for cuppa at the end and a lovely meal at the pub where we are staying. Woken up early and looking forward to the amazing breakfasts they do!!

Espee, your description sounds lovely. I would love to see that! Fall is my favorite time of year. We keep waiting on fall in my neck of the woods. It is still almost 100 degrees here, so 37C.

Congrats Violet on getting your diploma. That is a great achievement.

I had to take my car in for service. They gave me a loner car, so I spent the day wandering around the area where I grew up. Went into a few shops and treated myself to lunch.

VioletSky Tue 14-Sept-21 20:55:22

We had a takeaway to celebrate getting my diploma.

It's been a long time coming as I did badly at school due to an awful home life.

Being older, covid and being seriously unwell.... I did it! So proud of myself.

I am going to an organ recital in the cathedral at lunchtime. A moment's peace.

VioletSky Tue 14-Sept-21 09:49:34

NotTooOld I also have that, and I have inhalers for calm and strength. They seem to work quite well.

Good way to remind yourself to just breathe when faced with difficult situations or people.

Espee I need to remember to collect some conkers to keep the spiders out. I'll walk the long way home from work today and see if there are any around yet.

Today I went grocery shopping which I usually find stressful especially keeping up with the checkout operator.
I took my favourite detour home through our lovely country park enjoying the fresh air and signs of autumn. The highland cattle were grazing near to the road, a couple of squirrels played chicken with my car but no sign of deer today. The woodland floor which had been a beautiful sea of blue in the spring then green all summer is now covered in brown crunchy leaves and the rotting tree stumps were sporting the most dramatic fungi. The chestnut trees are changing colour and some are covered in conkers. There are still some wild raspberries to be had, just enough for the odd mouthful but the blackberries are in abundance, ready for transforming into delicious jelly. On the last stretch a couple of horses were having fun in their paddock then all too soon I joined the main road.
One mile later I was home, relaxed and rejuvenated by my drive to find my OH had cleaned the oven in my absence so the rest of the day was my own.

I'm sorry you're having a tough time NotTooOldflowers. My mum used to use Bach Rescue Remedy and always found it really good, so I hope it helps you too.

NotTooOld Mon 13-Sept-21 22:07:23

I bought myself some Bach Rescue Remedy while I was in Boots today. I'm having a tough time. Cost me £8 but I decided I'm 'wuth it'.

Entirelyfading

Looked at paint, fabric & carpet samples. Tedious, but the sitting room looks rather tired & shabby. Telling myself it will be great when it’s done.

This sounds great, I love decorating and bought a few cans of paint etc when I realised we were heading for lockdown but I've been too ill to use them. Hopefully soon!

I can't function unless the house is tidy Madgran. Well, I am ever so slightly OCD.

I can't remember the last time I had a lager shandy, I hope you enjoyed itsmile.

Madgran77 Mon 13-Sept-21 18:23:36

I had a lager shandy at lunchtime to keep me going! smile
