My friends here in SW France love welshcakes and spending an hour or so making a big pile is soothing and helps keep you warm. This is what I have been doing this morning. It was -12C at 8 am.

Ah. I can do the 'll'. That's good. Apparently I can't pronounce Caerphilly though. DH is Welsh and winces, so it's just That Welsh Cheese.

The trick is not to pronounce the diphthong at all, say:
C'phily. Without the welsh ll. Rhyme it will silly.
Cayerphilly - you would never hear.
Bit like P'Talbut

The one I can never pronounce is by bargoed. Y astrid monach! Or something like that. It has a hospital and we used to have tribunals in the town hall opposite.

Think you mean Ystrad Mynach jeni. Try "Us tred Mun aach!"

Yes that one. I've stopped going there as I can't say it. They send me to langstone instead occasionally.

Does anyone use a traditional cast iron welsh bakestone on top of glass halogen induction? I need a new cooker anyway so going to buy one and give it a go. Unfortunately all electric or oil fired here. Wonder if it would work on the barbie!

Its worth giving it a go NanaChrissie come back and tell us how it went..
