I dont have a problem with vegetarianism - I have a son who has been a veggie for 15 years. I try to make innovative meals for him. Not every time that he eats with me but fairly often. I often share what I cook for him with a friend who has been veggie for 20 years. She is delighted with whatever it is. This is all background to what I am wanting to air.
She doesnt believe in visiting the doctor unless she falls under a bus or gets mauled by a tiger. SO.....a great deal of her reading is about keeping healthy without the aid of drugs or surgery. Not so bad you may say but some of the things drive me potty. She thinks that I am doing myself dreadful harm by drinking black tea and that I should only drink green tea. I drink one cup of tea maybe five times a week. I dont want to bore with a list of like things but her sister says that all this pontificating makes her want to go out and eat something truly BAD. Can I say to her that I appreciate that she has her own ideas about healthy living and that I have mine and can we keep them to ourselves.

That is not much of an endorsement jeni but I am sure you know your own medical conditions better than they do.
A large packet of Pringles all on her own in one day [shock[ [yuk]
Those things are specially engineered to make you want another one. i am not joking their R and D departments are very proud of them. If you look at what a recommended serving is, it is probably about 4.
Is this the green tea evangelist ????
I used to work for someone who was into meditation, rice cakes and camomile tea. And cigarettes.

JessM. Not cigarettes but cigars and only to relieve the stress.

Faye I totally agree with your post, I am also vegetarian (only 42 years in my case) and I agree it was very difficult to find anything to eat in those days. My poor mum (down to earth Yorkshire woman from the meat and two veg boiled slowly for at least a week school) almost had apoplexy when I announced my intentions and she continued to feed me on the two veg without the meat. I can't blame her - I could have taken more of an interest in learning to cook for myself.

I agree that a vegetarian diet is not necessarily healthy and I do have a sweet tooth and enjoy my share of rubbish food at times. I am passionate about vegetarianism, for animal welfare reasons, and I sometimes have to hold back from becoming a bit 'preachy'. Not only is it boring, but none of us can take the moral high ground; it's just a case of where to draw one's own personal line.

I meant Green Tea friend smoked the cigars. I have never smoked in my life. I am not gloating. Three sons did but now dont. I pray it stays that way.

I consume very small amounts of red meat and mainly eat chicken and fish as so many GNs seem to do. I also try to be careful about the source of my eggs and chickens and abhor battery farming with a vengeance.

More of us are health conscious these days but I dont want to be preached at by a friend or by the government.

I've a feeling that if I were hit by a bus I wouldn't be going anywhere.

What I eat affects me too. It stops me feeling hungry and supplies me with the nutrients I need.

We are lucky to have so much choice about what we eat. Many people don't.

So true B. Even within this country some of us can afford much better quality food than others.

Yes, annoyingly I have to buy special milks and bread and they are much more expensive. hmm

I sympathise with the Pringle glutton. For me it's marmite rice cakes-once open I'm lost-especially with Holy Cow cottage cheese. Too old to be pregnant.

Flowerfriend, I am another doctor-avoiding vegetarian. But I would think it rude to tell advise my friends what to eat or drink.

I don't especially like green tea, and shock shock, horror, I drink two cups of caffeine-filled coffee every morning brew!

Can't do without my caffeine fix. The first thing I do with new judges is tell them how to make the coffee. The Bristol boss judge my friend, says I have them all well trainedgrin

jeni Congratulations on judge education. I do french friends education. They nearly all provide gin and tonic. Bless her heart even Greentea friend. So maybe I shouldnt have complained about her. Just had the proverbial belly-full the other day.
