Hurray! One of my favourite cooks is back on TV. I'm going to enjoy this half hour smile

merlotgran Sun 14-Oct-12 20:06:28

I was raving about Nigel Slater's kitchen this afternoon while DH was watching the repeat. HURRAH!! He's agreed to knock down the wall into the dining room and make a larger open plan area. I've only been asking for about seven years. I haven't told him I want it done before Christmas though. hmm

yes Watercolour Challenge! wasn't that good - why did it end - anyone know?

NfkDumpling Sun 14-Oct-12 18:53:25

Just watched Nigel Slater making what I've made so many times - left overs omelette. Exactly the same as I do it with various left overs. I thought it was really ordinary. Didn't realise I was cooking foreign - frittata!

You are right about Watercolour Challenge, shysal. I really enjoyed that and, now you mention it, I would appreciate it if they were to bring it back.

shysal Sun 14-Oct-12 16:24:34

I used to enjoy watching paint dry on the TV programme Watercolour Challenge, presented by Hannah Gordon. I wish they would bring it back.

Back onto the subject of Nigel Slater - I enjoyed the TV adaptation of his life story told through food, I think it was called Toast.

Watching paint (almost) drying - isn't that Sixty Minute Makeover?

jeni Sun 14-Oct-12 15:37:31

I like archaeology programmes but the only ones on are repeats of time team!sad

specki4eyes Sun 14-Oct-12 15:32:20

I was going to add that annodomini, but didn't dare! Brave you!
And as for come dine with me - I always want to say,' no thank you - I have a life.' Instead I keep my finger scrolling down trying to find something remotely interesting. What about a programme called 'Watch paint drying' - I might go for that as a preference grin Or 'Washing up - The Truth Behind It'. That'd be good.
Sorry, I have hi-jacked a thread. Exit grumpy old woman.

annodomini Sun 14-Oct-12 12:31:22

Sorry, but I have always found Nigel Slater a bit creepy. (ducks and runs for cover)

Maniac Sun 14-Oct-12 12:25:19

I so agree specki The sight and slurping sound of cooks tasting the food puts me right off food.Far too many cooking programs -
as for 'Dine with me' Ugh! No thanks!

specki4eyes Sat 13-Oct-12 15:11:13

I do so hate how they magnify the sound of his snorting, slurping and munching - then he says, "mm delicious" ... well he would, wouldn't he? Actually I hate cooking programmes - so sick of them, and antiques, and property development/buying in the sun etc. etc. Fed up to the back teeth with most of whats on the telly these days, So I switch off and look at Gransnet - much more interesting!

Grannyknot Fri 12-Oct-12 22:08:34

All my left overs are in jars in the fridge (seldom plastic) - a tip from my mum who would say nothing keeps stuff as fresh as glass and it gets really cold, so you have a 'fridge within a fridge' - and she was right!

kittylester Fri 12-Oct-12 22:04:34

I love Nigel Slater and have most of his books. The best one is called something like '30 minute cookbook'.

Loved the look of the blackberry pork which we watched eating Nigella's sirloin streak recipe from the new book. Lovely!! grin

merlotgran Fri 12-Oct-12 21:42:41

My dry ingredients are in jars, shysal. We are about as rural as you can get so we have to be careful not to attract mice into the kitchen with flour in bags etc. I don't think that's Nigel Slater's reason for using them though. hmm Didn't you just love the greengrocer's?

shysal Fri 12-Oct-12 21:33:38

It amuses me that Nigel's so-called scraps in the fridge are always wrapped in paper and tied with string, and his dry ingredients are in jars. The dishes do look simple and tasty though - I have courgettes to use up so will make some pesto tomorrow.

whenim64 Fri 12-Oct-12 21:20:32

She's good! [smie]

merlotgran Fri 12-Oct-12 21:08:37

I've had a really busy day, housework, gardening, racking wine, mucking out chickens and when I finally collapsed in front of the telly with a well earned wine, DH informed me the footie was on. On a FRIDAY night? angry. I can't print what I said because I'd probably be excommunicated but it hit the spot. grin Now watching Clare Balding making a good job of hosting HIGNFY.

whitewave Fri 12-Oct-12 20:43:11

Yes if you can watch it! Grrrr

whenim64 Fri 12-Oct-12 20:41:21

merlot yes, lovely programmes.

Butty an ex-colleague who has just retired is doing Yotam Ottelenghi's cookery course at Leith's on Monday next - it was one of her retirement presents. Lucky woman!

merlotgran Fri 12-Oct-12 20:33:55

I love his kitchen as well, whitewave. What a great Friday evening. Nigel Slater's kitchen and Monty Don's garden....Perfick! grin

Grannylin Fri 12-Oct-12 20:27:24

Everything looked so good and fresh- must try that spinach and goats cheese frittata...and as for the pork and blackberries [ drool smiley]

whenim64 Fri 12-Oct-12 20:19:35

He was on at 7.30pm curly. It'll be repeated, though smile

curlynana Fri 12-Oct-12 20:12:24

Is it still on? What channel? or have I missed it

Butternut Fri 12-Oct-12 20:07:57

I've one of his book - Diaries I think - really enjoy his simple take.
I am currently rather taken with Yotam Ottelenghi - middle eastern food. His latest book 'Jerusalem ' is on my birthday/xmas wish list.

whitewave Fri 12-Oct-12 20:07:41

I love his kitchen - can't watch it as England is playing and of course that is a matter of life or death.
