Do you have a favourite jam?

I've made lots of different jams already this year, but the absolute, run away favourite, is a strained mixed fruit one that simply used up all the bits of leftover fruit I had - including the mashed up redcurrants that were left from the redcurrant jelly. Three jars used up in ONE week!

I like gooseberry and rhubarb and ginger I used to have mixed fruit when I was a little girl I will try that this year.

Apricot or peach.

Apricot or Plum. Totally love Greengage but it is such a bother removing all the stones and I no longer have a ready supply of fruit.

Apricot or blackcurrant or a certain cherry.

My best wines were the 'generic' reds that were made of a mixture of leftover berries and beetroot.

Had some home made peach jam in France recently and it was wonderful!

Apricot or peach, but only rarely - don't care for jam.

Bramble jelly on warm toast. The best comfort food in the world.

Raspberry jam for me but not the seedless variety. Otherwise Lime curd is my favourite spread I often make my own.

granny23 makes a delicious apricot hmmm smile

Gally Thu 08-Aug-13 08:01:47

Definitely apricot, but why is it apricot jam tastes so much better than fresh apricots which are mainly quite bland? hmm I am also quite partial to a dollop of lemon curd.....

Ella46 Thu 08-Aug-13 08:10:25

My initial reaction to this question was ginger, then I read the posts! So, ginger, apricot, blackcurrent, lemon curd and thick cut orange marmalade.

I hardly ever eat it though!

Butty Thu 08-Aug-13 08:14:06

Definitely Blackcurrant - wonderful colour as well as taste.

tanith Thu 08-Aug-13 08:15:15

I hardly ever eat it and wish those tiny jars were more available as I buy it when a fancy takes me and then down the line end up throwing most of the pot away. My favourites are raspberry, apricot and lemon curd in that order.. I put off buying the big jars as its such a waste. Mr T are you listening?

Gally Thu 08-Aug-13 08:34:41

Blackcurrant always reminds me of my boarding school days. It was the only jam on offer, apart from marmalade at breakfast, and the currants were always hard and chewy. I have never been able to eat it since then......

You can buy the tiny jars at amazon

Ella46 Thu 08-Aug-13 08:55:55

Tanith I think I've seen little jars at some garden centre shops.

whenim64 Thu 08-Aug-13 09:21:01

They have the little jars at Morrisons, includng jam, honey and marmalade.

glammanana Thu 08-Aug-13 12:20:56

I buy the little jars from Morrisons for DGS5 he is the only one who likes it and if DD buys a large jar you can bet you bottom dollar he will have a period of not liking it once the jar is opened so the baby jars are just fine for his use.

tanith Thu 08-Aug-13 12:38:03

Thanks ladies I'll take a look..

Nelliemoser Thu 08-Aug-13 13:57:22

Damson and Gooseberry, which almost inevitably have to be home made. Home made Seville marmalade. I made this for the first time this year. Four small batches. Its wonderfully strong and tangy but I must get cutting up the peel right.

Thinking about this question I decided that I like raspberry best in a sponge cake - unless a lemon sponge in which case I love lemon curd but I like home made cherry jam on bread or toast and strawberry on scones. Does that make me fickle? cupcake brew

OMG I wish I hadn't read this thread! Trying to diet! I love jam. Just about any kind really.

Charleygirl Thu 08-Aug-13 14:35:53

Like Nelliemoser I prefer home made damson or gooseberry jams. If given a choice, tart rather than sweet jams and also in a small jar.

Gagagran Thu 08-Aug-13 14:43:11

Morello cherry jam on crusty baguette -yum. Or apricot. Not keen on strawberry though it's Mr G's favourite.
