Tonight we had Chicken Kiev with Lyonnaise potatoes. I have to admit the CK was not made by me but a local butcher whose ready meals are really, really good but I did make the Lyonnaise potatoes myself and I know I shouldn`t blow my own trumpet but it was a good meal

Leftover cous cous ( homemade) with whatever else I fancy from the fridge. My turn to make Dad's dinner tomorrow. I've absolutely no idea what to make for us. A look round Waitrose while at work in the morning might inspire me.

Decided to have a week of using up food in freezer. Tonight, chicken curry, cooked chick had been in freezer and all other ingredients in cupboard! Rhubarb (from the garden) crumble for pudding. Crumble mix is ready to use in freezer. Lots of veg in garden, so spoilt for choice! Anybody else grown cueca melons??? In greenhouse and in pot outside. What did you think of them, and ideas to use them!!!!!

Holly how are you growing your nails is it something you are eating that will encourage them to grow.
My evening meal consisted of reheated leek and potato bake and shop bought ice cream with blueberries, another fairly lazy meal, I hat ecooking

Galen Fri 01-Aug-14 22:07:34

Shop bought icecream?shock

Ana Fri 01-Aug-14 22:17:51

You mean you make your own, Galen? All the time...? shock

Ana Fri 01-Aug-14 22:19:05

(I'm more curious about the blueberries)

Galen Fri 01-Aug-14 23:08:19

Yes. It's easy with a gelateria. Haven't bought icecream for 20+ years

Silverfish Fri 01-Aug-14 23:11:16

whats to be curious about the blueberries, I got a dollop of ice cream from the tub than chucked a handful of berries on top , lovely, Im not a fancy cook like some people, I just grab something I fancy that doesn't take time to make

Silverfish Fri 01-Aug-14 23:23:49

by the way what the hell is wild rice, is it opposite to tame rice. Wild boar I can understand, wild rabbit too but wild rice. I may have some wild potatoes with some wild carrots tomorrow and my chicken must be wild too to make a casserole what about wild onions.

MrsPickle Fri 01-Aug-14 23:27:51

Making your own icecream is easy with a gelateria and Tesco Cornish ready made custard. Just add own flavours or ingredients.

henetha Fri 01-Aug-14 23:29:48

My neighbour has been to Cornwall for a few days and brought me back a gift of a real Cornish pasty. So I had that for dinner tonight.

Mamie Sat 02-Aug-14 05:59:24

Wild rice is from a species of grass which is not directly related to asian rice.
Last night we had barbecued chicken in a marinade of crushed preserved lemon and harissa with caponata (sweet and sour Italian dish of aubergine, celery, olives and capers).
Off to market shortly for tonight's fish.

Have recently rediscovered the pleasures of Scotch eggs, after a long period of avoiding them. Prompted by this development decided to do a comparative taste test so got a pack from Tesco's (cheapest), M & S (dearest) and Waitrose. Results - Tesco's first on taste and overall accepatability, Waitrose second, and M & S third (covering too thick for me and breadcrumbs too coarse). The tests (carried out on different days!) were accompanied by a small green salad, smidgeon of Heinz salad cream and glass of Manger's Irish cider. I am now available for other comparative field studies, particularly as regards chocolate and bakery products. Fees reasonable.

Really delicious fillet steak (cooked to perfection if I say it myself) local carrots and homemade chips (also local spuds) really hit the spot.

papaoscar must try Scotch eggs something I have never had

Mamie Sat 02-Aug-14 18:58:01

Spicy mackerel (fish 2€ in total from the market), salad from the garden, half a naan and our own chutney.

Rose, I have never laughed so much for a long time but the thought of getting my fat a...e out of my chair and chasing anything makes me laugh even more. Will just stick to Asda's tame chicken and tame veggies for my casserole today. Leave the chasing to the young ones.

kittylester Sun 03-Aug-14 12:07:01

Tagine (mine is lovely nonu), tame brown rice and a huge salad!

Silverfish Sun 03-Aug-14 12:11:35

anyone tell me how tame it, i've tamed feral cats before bit rice sounds a bit different

Silverfish Sun 03-Aug-14 12:12:48

maybe its tamed already and doesn't spit in the oven. Whenever Ive cooked rice before I spend weeks picking up bits all over the kitchen so maybe we should call it well behaved rice

Nonu Sun 03-Aug-14 12:20:35

LOL KITTY, send a taster over then I will know how good it can be !

HollyDaze Sun 03-Aug-14 12:29:00

Silverfish - I can't find the post you must be referring to but jelly will help your nails grow and it strengthens you hair too. I was told one cube per day will help (but I love jelly and would eat mounds of the stuff if I didn't know I'd make myself sick!).

HollyDaze Sun 03-Aug-14 12:31:42

Home made ice cream is very quick and easy to make - my mother used to make it all the time so it can't have been that time consuming and it did taste wonderful. From what I recall, she used both single cream and double cream caster sugar and vanilla essence. I've never tried to make it myself though so I have no idea about quantities or method but I do know she'd have it made in no time and into the freezer it went.

Silverfish Sun 03-Aug-14 12:32:13

I think it was on this one where you said what you'd had for tea, including jelly. Then you said you were letting your nails grow so I asked what made nails grow.
Will make some jelly, DGD loves jelly too so I will make her some. Unfortunately it doesn't give me willpower to stop biting nails.
