Are you loyal to one tea brand?

My supermarket delivery substituted my usual Tetley's with Another Brand. I don't think I ever consciously decided that Tetley's was my brand - I've just always bought it. Just made myself a cup of tea and had to throw it away. Are you loyal to one brand of teabag? I don't think I realised I was until now...

Tetley for years. Think if you change brands you need to use for a few days to get used to the taste. Yorkshire is good, like the package and got a free tin years ago, which now houses dog biscuits. Found most supermarket brands inferior years ago, but may have improved since.

Twinings English Breakfast in the morning, A mixture of English Breakfast, Darjeeling and Lapsang for tea.

I alternate with Yorkshire, Twinings, Tetley, and various supermarket own brands. I never buy PG tips or Typhoo.

Isn't it fascinating how everyone's taste differs. My husband doesn't drink tea at all. I drank PGtips for years until staying on my eldest daughter's farm tried Yorkshire. I have the decaf variety before bed and I can't taste the difference! I think both have a good flavour and I don't like it too strong. Best cuppa is the first one in the morning. I love it!

We buy Twinings tea bags to use when in a hurry but buy loose tea from a small local specialist foods shop as it is so lovely to linger over. DH loves his tea so I have to be a bit picky as he won't drink anything which is not up to his taste.

I think there is a lot to be said about the water as a particular blend of tea can taste very different when made with different water. One of my friends uses the same bottled water to make her tea which may be a good idea even if a little pricey. smile

It is strange this insistence by so many on one particular brand. I am not like that with most other food stuffs.

I think there is something about your "favourite drink" being special from an early age.
A "nice cup of tea or coffee" has all sorts of conotations of comfort. When someone is having a really bad time and you can find no easy solutions? You make them a nice cup of..... ? Offers of comfort.

I must have missed your thread Marelli. Thanks Harrigran, I will look next time I'm in Morrisons. When my mum bought it, it had stamps on the pack like Green Shield stamps. When she had filled up a card I think she got a free packet - of course only loose tea in those days!

I'm surprised so many love the brands I really dislike (PG, Tetley, Yorkshire etc).
Is it because you all like strong teas I wonder - and I would rather have a delicately flavoured tea?

Yorkshire tea for us and we both (especially DH) drink a lot of it in a day. Our daughter's in laws get it for us when you can get 2 packs of 480 bags each on special offer at Costco as we don't have one so these stores near us. My mum wouldn't have any tea other than Co-op 99 but that went back to the war days when I understand you had to register at a store for rationing. From then mum and her sisters were always loyal to the Co-op and my cousin still is so it's still always '99' tea for her.

I bring back kilos of Yorkshire Gold back to France. Twinings for Darjeeling and Earl Grey, but think I really ought to be going for leaf tea. Working on it.

Tea in France is rubbish - Lipton's is insipid, and French 'English' brands are a joke

I am with you,*NotSpaghetti*. For those who like a stronger tea I'd recommend Assam which my DS2 favours. I prefer something more subtle!

For those of you who enjoy a delicate flavour, has anyone tried Chai tea, be warned it is addictive!!

gulligranny Sat 20-Feb-16 15:47:59

We use Punjana - one teabag brewed in our small pot makes two good strong cups. It's quite hard to find near where I live; our local Tesco can't decide whether to stock it or not, Waitrose definitely doesn't and Morrisons is under-stocked and therefore often sold out. Worth the hassle though.

I used PG Tips for years but thought they'd lost flavour lately. Tried Twinings Breakfast Tea, very nice but expensive. Now use Yorkshire for hard water and it's a good robust flavour.
Like Earl Grey and Lady Grey occasionally.

Tetley for me, because of kidney problems I use the decaff ones , visitors often ask what brand I use as they have enjoyed it so much.

aggie Sat 20-Feb-16 16:15:30

gulligranny I had a running battle with our local Tesco when they stopped the leaf tea , I had an email conversation with Punjana about it and did shop elsewhere when they sent me a list of suppliers . I think customer services were sick of me , I never managed to speak to the manager ! But they do stock it now smile

PGTips! Always!

to ''neversay die'' - Red Bush tea, which I drink is naturally caffeine free so is not treated to get rid of caffeine, as are other caffeine free tea bags. just saying.

lujaha Sat 20-Feb-16 18:55:02

I have found that it all depends on the water. Having recently moved to the east coast of Scotland from north Yorkshire I can no longer drink Yorkshire Tea as it tastes completely different, and I am now on Lidl knightlbridge ceylon tea bags which are great .

lujaha Sat 20-Feb-16 18:56:40

Knightsbridge confused

grandma60 Sat 20-Feb-16 18:58:18

Happyme I love Chai tea. If you don't mind the calories have you tried a Chia latte?

Lovelife Sat 20-Feb-16 20:59:40

My favourite is Quick Brew.....unfortunately for me it's hard to find, but my local Budgens stocks it!! Yipee.

cayuga123 Sat 20-Feb-16 21:50:00

Yorkshire for me and DH has Lady Grey. Very fussy about our tea. Worst tea is in the US. They never boil the water and it is usually heated in the microwave. Yuck! Horrid!

Grannyknot Sat 20-Feb-16 22:37:28

Yorkshire during day time. Last cup of the day is Pukka Relax, or Sleepy Time tea.

Grew up with Typhoo in grey box with interesting series of factoid cards on side. Hate tea bags but they are convenient. If it's warm and wet and looks like tea, I'll drink it, but like Lapsang Souchong, Breakfast Tea or Earl Grey/Lady Grey. Also really like herbal teas and if feeling really flush, will treat myself to a box of "Teapigs"
