Sainsbury's and Waitrose do not have any ginger nut biscuits for me to have with my morning coffee hmm. I have instead bought Nairn Oat Ginger biscuits, nice but pricey. Can you get them in your area ?

Do you have difficulty getting your favourite foods ?

My late father and myself once were invited for an old afternoon tea in Eire where the old chap had some delivious ginger biscuits. So he gave us the receipe, I made use of it but with all the moves since it seems to have vanished.
I forgot about them, so thanks for reminding me, I will definitely see what has happened to them.

Another addict here.It started 45 years ago when I was expecting my eldest son. I did like Asdas own make but they have gone they said the warehouse had been flooded. They have put other types on the shelves but I find them too sweet. Aldis are passable. Maybe all addicts should sign a petition. I wonder if David Cameron likes them.

We haven't seen any ginger nuts but just found out our favourite pineapple cakes come into the bakery on a Wednesday. Been wondering for ages why the baker is sold out when we go, should have asked.

Does anyone know what happened to empire cakes? They are called Belgian Biscuits elsewhere, two spiced brown flat biscuits with jam in the middle and icing on the top with a cherry?

I'm not a ginger nut lover, but Rich Tea Finger biscuits & own brand bourbons have also disappeared because of the flooding. Yes it is an 'inconvenience' but we also have to think of the thousands of pounds it is costing to clean up after the flood damage not just for this factory but also the local tradespeople and residents, some of whom I'm sure are currently unable to work.

I think they are alive and well in the Southern Hemisphere.

It's a real shame that the biscuit factory has been flooded and I hope they get everything up and running again quickly. In the meantime I would urge people to make their own ginger biscuits, they're very easy and the smell of warm ginger from the oven while they're cooking is really lovely.

I think Gregg's do a nice ginger biscuit. Rather substantial but good to dip if you are on your own.

allypally1 Tue 23-Feb-16 13:10:29

They have ginger biscuits in M&S, which are nice. The factory was flooded recently.

You had to mention Ginger Nuts! Now I'm going to have to bake. Haven't had one for ages but now I'm craving one. I'll look up Delia's recipe as mentioned on an earlier message.
DH was just saying last night he had not seen lemon puffs for ages- I don't like them but will tell him to find a Tesco's- thank you.

Off to bake now.

Nelliemoser Tue 23-Feb-16 13:37:18

There seems to have been a time lapse from the point at which the factory was out of action due to the floods and all the stocks already in the stores or in warehouses ran out. A national crises ensues.
Keep calm and carry on.

Perhaps I could sell the packet I have to addicts at an extortionate price. Or sell them one by one and make even more money. Grannies in hoodies will be knocking at my front door. grin

I tend to buy Tesco Free From Ginger biscuits, although I don't need gluten free I do find these are very tasty. Other gingers I buy are Borders, probably the best you can get but not so easily available, but was in Tesco this morning and bought 2 packs so maybe Tesco aren't having their's made at the same place as the others.

If you're trying to make us jealous - it's working!

MammaN Tue 23-Feb-16 14:36:52

None in Morrisons this morning, much to DH's annoyance. We're now into Digestives and Rich Tea. He'll be amazed when I tell him there's a whole blog on here about his missing gingers.

Lynnie Tue 23-Feb-16 15:02:13

I was making a honey and ginger cheesecake at the weekend and couldn't find Ginger Nuts (for the base) anywhere. Ended up using digestives - so not quite the taste I wanted.

A national shortage of ginger nuts - oh, no! Must get down to Aldi pronto to check out the current position. They're my very favourites. On a slightly related tack, a little while ago I fell in love with cappuccino kitkats, then they were discontinued. I still haven't quite recovered....

Blinko Tue 23-Feb-16 17:33:20

Alea grin

Elrel Tue 23-Feb-16 18:27:38

Scottishmarge - When in Aldi I always get their ginger biscuits as a friend prefers them to any other brand!

Out here in ginger nut diaspora we have to resort to making our own. So here's my recipe (sorry, forgot about it last night).

Yield approx 24.
Sieve together:
4 oz flour,
1/2 level tsp bicarbonate of soda (this is the most important ingredient)
1-2 level tsps of ground ginger
1 level tsp ground cinnamon
2 level tsps caster sugar

Warm 2 oz butter and 3 oz golden syrup until runny, then pour the liquid in and stir it all together. Roll into small balls, put on a greased baking tray, leaving plenty of room between and bake for 15-20 mins. at fairly hot (375°F or190°C)

Lidl have Towergate ginger biscuits, very nice too.

ChocoholicSue Tue 23-Feb-16 22:05:51

I haven't tried them but Asda has a make called Hills who do gingernuts. Asda also has lemon puff biscuits

Welshwife Tue 23-Feb-16 22:22:37

I would like to know what happened to the original type of Nice biscuits - you can sometimes get an own make packet but they are nothing like the original ones really which were larger in surface area and thinner and also a paler colour. The modern ones are not so crispy either.

baNANAGran3 Tue 23-Feb-16 22:54:17

The co-op do a nice ginger biscuit - will check it out next time am in.

Judthepud2 Wed 24-Feb-16 11:54:19

Yes M&S have yummy ginger biscuits called 'Dunkers', oblong shape so they fit into a mug of tea. Expensive but ?

JackyB Wed 24-Feb-16 11:59:45

Nice biscuits were crispy? I wouldn't know - I always dunked mine!
