Sainsbury's and Waitrose do not have any ginger nut biscuits for me to have with my morning coffee . I have instead bought Nairn Oat Ginger biscuits, nice but pricey. Can you get them in your area ?
Do you have difficulty getting your favourite foods ?
Glad to make your day Shestheone! On a serious note, the biscuit factory is the main employer in Carslisle and so many are currently laid off. Hopefully they will be back baking ginger goodies very soon.
I have the joy of the company of 2 lovely Labs while at work, Bilbo who is 13, and Laylah who is 18 months! A lot of the benefits without the expense and some of the hassle! (Although we should perhaps draw a veil over Bilbo's flatulence problem
Although I have been the very happy owner of many dogs and cats over the years, I am currently quite happy with my 2 mogs, and don't think it would be fair to have a dog while still working.
Yep, overheard an assistant explain to another customer about the floods affecting ginger nuts to the whole country. I presume Carr's water biscuits are made there too, can't get them for love nor money just now.
I live in Cumbria where we had the terrible floods in early December and yes as others have said the factory was badly flooded and ovens / automated lines were affected. I also have some insider info ( not first hand so this is just hearsay ). That they obviously make millions of biscuits and do so other brands. Apparently they are all the same recipe but the only difference is the position of the biscuit in the oven. The Mcvities /premium brands are middle bake and cheaper brands are the outer bake. I'd love to know this for certain !
Gransnet e mail popped up in my inbox and I was guilty . It was me, I demolished a whole pack yesterday (Lidl's ones) Wouldn't have been so greedy if I'd have known the problem I am going to have replacing them. Just goes to show the scale of problems caused by the floods. Bet the factories are built on flood plains as so many industrial areas are these days.
Delia has a recipe for the biscuits in her 'Cakes' book. My copy is an old small paperback, now heavily stained! I think she calls them, 'Jean's Gingernuts. I rediscovered it recently after being very disappointed with an expensive packet of ginger biscuits. I'll never go back to buying them again. A doddle to make and absolutely delicious.
it is all down to el nino causing freaky weather, flooded the factory also custard creams factory and they are worried bout coffee plantations being affected causing a shortage and price doubling. i read about this in the summer and stocked up on coffee
Graymary, the mix is by WRIGHT'S and comes in carrot, toffee and cholate flavours, sometimes Madeira, to which I add lemon to make a drizzle cake. The chocolate is gorgeous and gooey. You can also make muffins etc with the same mix. In a small paper packet about£1.20
I joked weeks ago about a national ginger biscuit shortage and then found out it's true! I did eventually find some in a local Coop but am now very worried about not finding any more. They are my favourite and the only biscuits I buy- or were! Apparently the factory in Cumbria was flooded and production had to stop. Let's hope they reappear soon.
busylizzy - lemon puffs are sold at tesco and asda. i've got them on my shopping list for this weekend.
as for ginger biscuits - tesco basic ones are the best although i must admit that i haven't shopped for ginger biscuits recently.
i'm currently eating fox's ginger crinkles - not as hard as ginger nuts but equally as delicious especially when dunked in a mug of coffee.
lincoln biscuits - a childhood favourite - have disappeared off the face of the earth. however, after looking on wikipedia, i've found a recipe for lincoln ginger biscuits! seems to "fit the biscuit" [sorry].
