Seeing a mention of Gipsy tart in the pudding thread reminded me of Gipsy Cream biscuits, and also Ayton Sandwiches, which were similar.

Where did they go?

I loved Abbey Crunch too and there were some called Royal Scot.

angie95 Mon 14-Mar-16 10:30:06

angie95 Mon 14-Mar-16 10:31:59

OOH they were so nice phantom12, they never lasted long in our house haha, Broken misshaped biscuits you could buy on local markets , oh the good old days

Those biscuits with different coloured icing and animals on, haven't seen them for a long time, or Parkin biscuits either

Biscuits were a rare treat when I was a child. I used to love Café Noir, coffee flavoured icing on a plain biscuit.

annifrance Mon 14-Mar-16 11:07:05

those Vienna biscuits, very rare treat. But you could get them broken from a big tin with a glass lid in Cave Austin in Orpington. I used to gaze at them longingly.

Also loved Lemon Puffs. And Bourbon biscuits are never now what they used to be.

Blondie49 Mon 14-Mar-16 11:13:32

Yum yum , well remembered swim home, I loved those biscuits and was always getting told off for licking the icing - all nice and crunchy feeling on your tongue - instead of eating properly :-)

sweetcakes Mon 14-Mar-16 11:14:22

Caf'e Noir is my husbands favourite I like fig roll and good old custard cream
But I bought some lemon puffs and was really disappointed not how I remember them.

Bath Olivers are big, round, quite hard and rather pale. DH loves them with Stilton, but I find them a bit boring, as I think they have no salt. Suppose the Stilton makes up for that.

I used to love Gypsy creams! For children there used to be those little tiny biscuits with a swirl of hard icing?! Can't remember what they were.

Funnygran Mon 14-Mar-16 12:36:00

Never buy sweet biscuits for ourselves but I remember all the ones mentioned. We had a night in a hotel on Saturday and custard creams were in the room with the tea and coffee. Loved them and am tempted to buy some for home.

Wilks Mon 14-Mar-16 12:53:37

Dad's Cookies.

jusnoneed Mon 14-Mar-16 13:13:18

Iced Gems Treecycler, you can still buy them. My boys used to like them when they were young.

pollyperkins Mon 14-Mar-16 13:53:01

What were the 'sports' biscuits called? They had stick figures doing various sports on them

Rosina Mon 14-Mar-16 13:54:51

Yes, you can get Bath Olivers - I love them!
Also, regarding the 'staff room' china, that was 'Berylware', which came in lovely shades of green, pale blue, and pink. I had some of the green china for years and it always reminded me of school.'Don't think it is made any longer but you can get it on ebay and it can also be found in secondhand shops.

grannyinmypocket Mon 14-Mar-16 13:55:10

I loved Ayton Sandwich and you got small Ayton Sandwich,

Rosina Mon 14-Mar-16 13:56:07

...and I have just remembered that you could buy Berylware in a lemon shade too - my aunt had teacups which were very pretty.

BBbevan Mon 14-Mar-16 14:50:12

You can buy biscuits similar to ' sports' biscuits but they now have a cow on them. Malted milk? My DGDs predictably call them Cow Biscuits.

rosesarered Mon 14-Mar-16 15:40:37

Oh yes, moo cow biscuits, they were nice.Lona schools must have bought the Berylware because it was cheap and easily replaced?Camp Coffee, what a blast from the past, made from chicory essence, with a Highlands Officer and a native bearer on the label.
I do vaguely remember Gypsy Creams, but not Ayton biscuits.
we still buy custard creams ( a fave with DH)

Magicmaggie Mon 14-Mar-16 16:22:19

Cafe Noir were always my favourite biscuits, however a few months ago I noticed that Mcvities had completely changed the packaging and made them smaller.
I bought a packet in Waitrose and found that they had also changed the recipe and I hated the new taste, and thought them horrible.
So after 40 years or so, I will with great sorrow not be buying anymore.
Has anyone else bought the new ones, and what do the think?

charliebb Mon 14-Mar-16 16:24:28

When I was about 11 years old my Mum sent me to the local baker's shop to buy 1lb of mixed brokern biscuits. Back in those days we could take the dog into the shop. Anyway our dog decided to raise his leg and pee all over one of the biscuit tin lids which were on quite a low rack. As you can imagine there was a big notice on the door next day 'No dogs allowed in the shop'. I was so ashamed that my sister had to go and get the biscuits from that day onwards.

Today I went into a Home Bargains shop and in front of me at the checkout was a lady with LEMON PUFF biscuits! But the brand name was not one which I recognised. grin brew cupcake

narrowboatnan Mon 14-Mar-16 17:39:08

Morrisons have Lemon Puff biscuits. I saw some in there only the other day. Debated buying a packet but then saw the chocolate hobnobs. No contest really wink

pollyperkins were the sports biscuits Malted Milk? Does anyone remember
Puff cracknels? They were a strange texture with a dimple on the top, we used to split them and put butter in the middle.
