Seeing a mention of Gipsy tart in the pudding thread reminded me of Gipsy Cream biscuits, and also Ayton Sandwiches, which were similar.

Where did they go?

Alea Sun 13-Mar-16 11:51:26

Bath Olivers, do they still exist?

Alea Sun 13-Mar-16 11:52:04

It wasn't me Daddima, honest! blush

janeainsworth Sun 13-Mar-16 11:55:16

I think you can still get Bath Olivers.
I remember s a child refusing to eat Garibaldi biscuits because my uncle told me they were made of dead flies shockshock

Lincolns, my OH has a friend who buys him some in Ireland when she visits as they are still available over there..

BBbevan Sun 13-Mar-16 11:56:49

Broken ones in big tins on the counter.

ninathenana Sun 13-Mar-16 11:58:03

Hmmm, I'm sure I've seen Lincolns in Kent supermarkets. I will be checking next time smile

Me too jane!

PRINTMISS Sun 13-Mar-16 15:55:14

Remember broken biscuits in the tin BBevan, bought them in a brown paper bag, man-handled without gloves! I like lemon puffs but have not seen those around for some time.

What good memories you all have! I can't think of any biscuits not in the shops, try as I might, hmmn, maybe though... Pink wafer ones? Oh,and what about Marie biscuits ( or have I just imagined that name?)

Ana Sun 13-Mar-16 16:17:27

Yes, you can still get Marie biscuits, both McVitie and Crawford make them (and there may be supermarket versions too). I like Morning Coffee biscuits - you can still get those as well.

rosesarered Sun 13-Mar-16 16:25:08

Morning coffee biscuits remind me of primary school, when in the top class so 10-11 years old, it was considered a great honour to be chosen to make a pot of tea for the teachers common room.It was a large teapot and a large kettle on the gas stove! You then put out lots of teacups and saucers, all pale green, sugarlumps, and a jug of milk, emptied the ashtrays, and also put out a big plate of morning coffee biscuits ( snaffling a few as you worked.)The headmaster also collared pupils to run to the shop ( not that near) to buy his cigarettes.

rosesarered Sun 13-Mar-16 16:26:22

Thank you Ana glad the Marie biscuits exist and are not a product of my overactive imagination.

Imperfect27 Sun 13-Mar-16 16:54:30

You can still get pink wafers too. I LOVED lemon puffs - haven't seen those for a very long time.

MiniMouse Sun 13-Mar-16 17:50:47

Vienna biscuits - triangles of wafer biscuit covered in dark chocolate. Expensive and a very rare treat when I was growing up!

Maggiemaybe Sun 13-Mar-16 18:00:55

Jamborees. Shortcake biscuits with a pink and white mallow layer and jam in the middle. Desiccated coconut on top. We used to dismantle them and eat every bit separately, which got a tad sticky and messy.

Daisyanswerdo Sun 13-Mar-16 18:07:58

Small rich tea - they tasted better than rich tea! Also thin wine biscuits I loved, especially with St Ivel lactic cheese, and you can't get that now either.

BBbevan Sun 13-Mar-16 18:23:51

Garibaldi,-- my Dad said they were filled with squashed flies.

Maranta Sun 13-Mar-16 18:56:51

I buy squashed fly biscuits regularly from my Co-Op! Yum

Lona Sun 13-Mar-16 19:01:44

roses Did all schools have those pale green cups and saucers I wonder? Our teachers had Camp coffee in the classroom, but no biscuits!
I loved Gypsy creams daddima smile

jusnoneed Sun 13-Mar-16 21:27:30

I saw Lemon puffs in Morrisons a couple weeks ago, but they were round and not the sticky oblong ones I used to like. Just as well really .... lol

BBbevan Mon 14-Mar-16 07:04:21

Yes Lona, until 1995 when I retired we still had those green cups in the staff room. Only used for visitors though. Plus a tin of mixed biscuits, which the staff who didn't bring any lunch, ate .
