No sprouts!

Just been to get veg for Sunday evening family meal. There were no Brussels sprouts in the veggie dept, so I enquired where they were.
"Oh there's a shortage of sprouts, and they're likely to be scarce until
after Christmas". chirped the adolescent department manager.
Am I alone in cynically wondering if this is a planned shortage to make sure that we all pay inflated prices for the green horror-balls?
I loathe sprouts, so I shan't be inconvenienced, but the rest of the family will want them at any price.
I suppose we must just blame it all on Brexit - or maybe Donald Trump has bought up the entire output of Brussels sprouts as part of his plan for world domination!

Kent is the brassica capital of the country - caulis, cabbages of all sorts and sprouts. There has been a moth whose caterpillars have been attacking the sprouts in particular this year due to the mild weather - yes, it has been very mild this winter, about one frost to date, then the temperatures soaring into double figures. That is why there is a shortage of sprouts.
I prefer sprout tops personally, and the farmers' markets always sell them - delicious.

Read somewhere that the UK is experiencing a blight of some kind of moth that eats sprouts (good, lets have some here !)

I am (as you may tell ) not keen on them, but I eat them as they are good for you ...and they are a lovely green to go with dinner on the plate ! I buy fresh ones from the market, blanch them and open freeze them ...sadly now in a supermarket they mostly come in 5kg bags ! but I also read the supermarkets are proposing a ban on loose veggies because of people picking them up and sorting them overm thus damaging them so they have to be thrown away ! Why can they not be sold cheaply or given away to those without the means to buy fresh food ?

I do recall years ago my dad decided to grow his own and we opened the door one day to find thousands of caterpillars hadformed an orderly line from the sprouts and up the back door ! Didn't happen again !

OH was proud of his allotment and his ability o grow things.

We have had carrot fly carrots. Sprouts with white fly and mange.

Oh only ate them.

Mountains of tatties. for him to eat, but they soon sprout and go in the compost.

Happy days

DFH won't put potatoes or potato peelings in the compost because they sprout and then grow all over the garden.

I am worried now, may look for some sprouts and blanch and freeze them, can't have Christmas dinner without sprouts.

I adore Brussel sprouts, but even better are Brussel Tops ( oh yum ).
Only one greengrocer sold them in our Town but sadly they shut down a couple of years ago and I cannot find anywhere else that sells them ?.

I bought a stick of purple sprouts in Lidl last week; they are tasty and sweet. DH doesn't like sprouts but he loved those!
