Last night I was at a friend's band concert. In the interval we queued for tea/coffee and home baking. I picked up my coffee and moved on to what I thought was a carton of milk - but as I poured I realised that it was apple juice. Not possible to go back, so I just sploshed in some milk too and decided to ignore the taste of apples. However, it was surprisingly pleasant! Have you ever tried an unexpected mix of flavours that turned out to be successful?

That sounds yuck! grin

We like sliced hard boiled eggs on chili and sliced cocktail gherkins on paprika chicken.

smoked haddock on cheesy potatoes....and I have heard umpteen celebrity chefs say fish and cheese doesn't go...but its delicious

My MiL used to poach fish and serve it with a cheesy sauce - it was lovely (and I am not a fan of fish)

We used to have haddock in cheese sauce when I was younger. And i always sprinkle fish pie with grated cheese. How silly.

I think I feel a fish pie coming on!

Bresaola della Valtellina beef slices in a butty with home-made crab apple jelly ?

My mum used to serve poached fish with cheese sauce. It's lovely when done right.

I'm getting hungry reading these.

I've never understood the poached haddock with a poached egg on top or as FiL used to have it.... a fried egg
Dad used to eat peanut butter and iceburg lettuce sarnies.

Classic Salmon Mornay is made with cheese sauce. I've had many varieties of fish with cheese and never found them incompatible. My fish pies are always topped with cheese-potato mash.

I once tried sliced mushrooms and sliced apples together and loved the combination. Haven't done it since, though.

I would love to thank the person who dreamed up salted caramel, who'd have thought that would be a good combination, well it works for me everytime. Chilli and chocolate is another one.

Oh yes you really need a good cheesy topping to a fish pie. I used to sprinkle crumbled up crisps on fish pies too. Very salty of course sad
Salted caramel is divine!!

I saw some Kit Kat bars with peanut butter today! My lunch of choice when on my own is a slice of toast and grilled cheese topped with sliced pickled beetroot. Yum
( to me).

Scrambled eggs on top of toast and marmalade, wonderful and my go to if feeling unhappy

lemongrove Sun 08-Oct-17 21:54:56

Menopaws ( said in a stern voice) are you having us on?
Really? Eggs on top of marmalade toast??
I would like to say I will try it and be adventurous but am a wuss where food is concerned ( and am still not recovered from your gherkin rissotto you made in The Argy.)

lemongrove Sun 08-Oct-17 21:56:17

Slurping a cut up orange and Belgian chocolate is a good combination.?

Menopaws Sun 08-Oct-17 22:22:09

No I'm being honest, it's lovely, I discovered it years ago when I was working in a racing yard, all the staff ate it and now as I said is is my cheer up breakfast, my husband judges my mood by it!

lemongrove Sun 08-Oct-17 22:23:57

Right, well, if I am feeling brave one day Meno I will give it a go.?

Smithy Sun 08-Oct-17 22:28:47

Some of these sound yuk to me!
Someone once told me Baileys didn't go with chocolates - don't know where they got that ridiculous idea from!

Grandma2213 Mon 09-Oct-17 02:44:56

Cheese and jam sandwiches yum! Plus slices of apple for an extra kick!

I keep meaning to try salted caramel but currently having sensitive teeth problems so am a bit worried about that.

Elegran Mon 09-Oct-17 10:41:06

Peanut butter and honey sandwiches. Or peanut butter and marmite.

Auntieflo Mon 09-Oct-17 11:43:31

DS2 loves cheese and golden syrup sandwiches. He also converted SIL grin
