Fish fingers

I have never had a fish finger sandwich and until quite recently hadn't bought ready made fish fingers.I dont like cod ,so I made home made haddock ones for my kids and GC.My daughter told me Birdseye make haddock ones so I got them for my GD just a few months ago and they went down well so I keep a pack for her in the freezer.Do M &S do Haddock ones?

I LOVE M&S food and will definitely try these fish fingers but probably with chips and frozen peas or tinned sweet corn......and ketchup of course

You must let us know what you think, DanniRae! And if you fancy some baked beans with them try M&S's as well. So much nicer than Heinz. Even though they're all made in the same place the M&S ones clearly have something different going on! Not too much juice.

And their tuna in spring water! Once you have theirs you'll not be wanting any other types.

Will give them a try although I really love the wheat free chicken goujons, nice crisp non soggy coating. I love a fish finger sandwich, soft white bap spread with tartare sauce

Quite a few of the items in the M&S gluten free range are better that the mainstream ones, not just the fish fingers. The gluten free apple pie is delicious.

I bought s box of Birds Eye Haddock FF’s today with my shopping but forgot to get bread buns . No M&S in my town and I really, really want those little sub rolls with sprinkles of semolina on top.

I use Cous cous as an alternative to breadcrumbs. Just soak then dip the fish/meat in egg and coat in the cous cous,

I agree Framilode. Their prices for GF foods are no higher than the well known brands and I think that they are so much nicer.

Erm...I don't know if they do haddock ones, is the honest answer.
I do know they sell haddock every other way but may be an idea to ring and ask them.

As for plastic free...yes, the fingers are just in the cardboard box...no plastic at all.

I had 3 more of the M&S ones this evening, in mini subs with Heinz ketchup and some thin-ish oven chips in a home-made paper cone.

I agree their food is a bit more expensive than Tesco or Sainsburys so not everyone can afford it.

So GabriellaG54 I've never frozen cut veg. But sounds good. I throw a lot out. Do I just chop and freeze?

I’m with Paddyanne here, my husband makes his own fish fingers when the grandchildren come, a very, very light batter, and cod or haddock inside. Much better in my opinion to anything you can buy. He also does the very light batter and makes his own chicken nuggets, much better than anything commercial and the children love them.

Just out of curiosity, I looked to see how many brands of fish finger we have in one of our biggest supermarkets. Including the Quorn no-fish fingers, there are 5 brands.

I've never had a fish finger in my life and these don't tempt me. They are far more expensive than buying the equivalent amount of fresh fish.

My little son (5 at that time) once described these as 'orange things with bobbles on them' when he had them at school dinners.
I don't think he's eaten them since either but I understand children love them.

Yeah...but you fry them.
Fried food...no.

Can I just say that so called 'fresh' fish can be up to 20 days old when you buy it but fish destined for the frozen market is gutted, de-scaled and frozen immediately the catch is landed on the boat, therefore when you buy it it's as fresh as when it was caught.
There have been numerous articles and tv programmes about fresh v frozen fish.
Unless you live in Whitby or a fishing port or village, then your so called fresh fish isn't really that fresh.

Because of all this talk of fish fingers when it came to choosing my dinner last - Mr R cooks on Saturdays - I 'ordered' fish fingers, peas and oven chips and, with a big dollop of ketchup, it was lovely. (Not M&S gluten free BTW as I haven't bought any yet but will do soon!)
You see we are simple folk, foodwise, when Mr R cooks - but we can still enjoy our dinners.

A rather random post above this but reminded me of one of the meals in hospital. Fish fingers smothered in gravy! Definitely not a recommendation!
