Just me and DP (dear partner) this year - it's a gorgeous day and we're off for a long walk with sandwiches. Turkey will be gobbled at approx 7 p.m.

ginny Wed 25-Dec-19 09:46:08

When it is ready.

henetha Wed 25-Dec-19 09:47:28

We're aiming at 1 o'clock but it will probably be nearer 2 o'clock when we eat. It's vegetarian this year, which I don't mind at all.
It's a sunny day so far in south Devon.

Twopence Wed 25-Dec-19 09:52:41

Sunny day in North Devon too. Plan to eat at 1pm, just the two of us, then hopefully a walk if it's still nice. Merry Christmas everybody.

Planning for 1:30, but flexible - turkey should come out to rest at 1:15, cold starter of savory cheesecake with wardorf salad, so that's amenable to change - go with the flow, and a nice glass of rioja!

Around 7pm tomorrow, Boxing Day. Just me and DD2 this year and she's working today until around 4pm and will be exhausted when she comes home so we're doing Boxing Day today and Christmas Day tomorrow! Gammon cooked and ready to go, cheese board prepped and with gammon in fridge. Just preparing salads and a roasted parsnip soup.
Merry Christmas everyone!

My usual answer! When it hits the table!

dragonfly46 Wed 25-Dec-19 10:21:11

Brunch when DD and SiL wake up then dinner at 7pm as usual. There isn't much tv watching in our house so like to make an evening of it.
Happy Christmas!

we hope to have christmas dinner late afternoon.

Buttonjugs Wed 25-Dec-19 10:37:21

I am a veggie but have cooked turkey for family most years. But last year it still looked pink no matter how long it was in the oven so I ended up throwing it away. I was so stressed I vowed never to cook meat again. Today we are having homemade veggie lasagne followed by Christmas pudding. I made it yesterday so it just needs to go in the oven and I plan to get it ready for 2pm.

Aiming for around 4pm but going on past experience of the cook's timings, probably 5pm smile

Cambia Wed 25-Dec-19 11:57:40

Just us two. Been out for an early morning walk, late breakfast, drinks with neighbours! So probably around 3.30pm and then I might catch the Queens speech!
Happy Christmas to everyone!

Sadly I couldn’t join the family Christmas Day. I’m at home on my own with a tummy bug and cramps. Not chanced a cup of tea yet, just water. Timing eh?

NonnaW Wed 25-Dec-19 12:15:38

Poor you Urmstongran, hope you feel better soon.
Head chef (DH) is aiming for 2.00pm, as DS2 has to leave later as he is working tomorrow. Presents all opened, dog walk later for anyone who wants to join us (that’ll just be me & DH then). Happy Christmas everyone.

vinasol Wed 25-Dec-19 12:18:19

Picking mum up at 2, then lunch at 3.

Have a nice day all.

Esmerelda Wed 25-Dec-19 12:20:23

I feel for you, Urmstongran as I am in a similar position, but no stomach bug just a rather painful dose of mumps. When we were little my mum always planned for Christmas lunch to be at 1.00pm ... we never managed to be sitting down at the table until 3.00pm. ???

sarahellenwhitney Wed 25-Dec-19 12:23:13

Good question. Depending on how much 'vino' grin my glass holds.

Bijou Wed 25-Dec-19 12:23:28

I am on my own so will have a turkey breast fillet with Mediterranean frozen veg about 6 p.m.

Pittcity Wed 25-Dec-19 12:26:36

DH has got his timings wrong as is traditional. Looking at 2pm now....luckily the Queen can be paused until we're ready!

Crechat39 Wed 25-Dec-19 12:28:37

Christmas Eve 9.00
Christmas Day is a buffet so no-one has to get up early to start cooking.

TerriBull Wed 25-Dec-19 12:48:43

Waiting for kids to arrive will have drinks and nibbles. I will watch our dear Queen at 3, I never used to but realisation she won't be with us forever. Christmas dinner between 4 and 5 hopefully.

Nannan2 Wed 25-Dec-19 12:57:31

Merry christmas! Had planned around 2pm but i was so ill in the night and a very high temp i had to go hospital! Turns out ive got flu so now my sons( 21& 16,never done lunch before, confused are going to have to do turkey! While they banish me from downstairs as though im diseased!tchgrin theyl just have to take instructions, and cook till its done as theres only us 3 so wont matter what time we eat tchsmile

Dublin29 Wed 25-Dec-19 13:00:53

@Resurgam123 & @LadyGracie will be at least 3 pm at son’s house & chaotic. He operates in a very different way to me, I end up doing veg & potato prep. Don’t mind that, but hard working in his kitchen, not enough room, didn't tell me how turkey crown was to be prepared (I usually get a boneless one piece you bung in oven from frozen) Not happy about staying overnight for 2 nights, but I don’t drive & he’s not up to the 20 odd miles back & forth due to his medical issues/disability. Love seeing my 2 Grandchildren, 11 & 15, but on Dad’s turf difficult as he’s controlling & expects everyone to have the Christmas he wants. I’m with kids in this, but little I can do in his home. Older DGS I’m very close to, but his mental health & eating disorder are very apparent. Not at all to do with his Dad & why their Mum isn’t here.??

This is one main reason I find this season so hard & other adults going on about everyone needing to have a great time. Not everyone can do this. I also have my Mam dying in a February way back as a teen, but her last Christmas was horrible, that finished me on it. Having said that, when son was a child, I did great acting so he’d enjoy it.

Ironically that’s what he’s trying to recreate, but he can’t ? Going to be a long time until sometime Boxing Day afternoon/evening, when I get back to my very small flat.

Glad some/many of you having a great time, I am envious?

Nannan2 Wed 25-Dec-19 13:01:46

Am same Terribull, recorded Queen last year to watch later,as ive watched her if its on,but never gone out of my to watch it,but realise even she wont be around forevertchsmile

Nannan2 Wed 25-Dec-19 13:12:07

Well Dublin 29,can assure im not enjoying it so far( got no sleep till after 7am with hospital trip)& ill have to return if my temp doesnt come down!) I doubt Esmeralda& urmstongran are eithersad Maybe we can have a better new yeartchsmile
