What are you all having to eat tonight? I cook every evening and have been getting bored with the usual meals. Tonight, I've made a Chicken Jambalaya - it's a Hello Fresh recipe I had ages ago, but I bought all the ingredients and have adapted it a bit.

I've made a carrot cake for afters.... with cream grin

Well, I've a selection beyond belief. Y'know that saying 'right place, right time'? I was in the local supermarket when the reduceds were turned into get rid off. 5p apiece for everything in there. Hardly a soul around and all sorts of festive specials available. My fridge and freezer are now 'unco fu'. Happy New Year indeed!

Tonight's repast will be smoked salmon, with what I don't know because we have little else in. Also some very fancy cream cakes from a very swanky pâtissière, brought to us yesterday by the head mistress. Along with a bottle of Moet for me, as a thanks for working 16 days straight (so far). She didn't instruct me NOT to drink it while in sole charge of 2 students.

Should I?

I was going to do roast beef today but there's still a lot to use up in the fridge so it can wait until Sunday.

We'll probably snack on ham, pork terrine and various cheeses, especially the camembert which is now stinking the fridge out so should be just about fit to eat. grin

Something with sausages - maybe a traybake thing. I have one parsnip to use up so could chuck that in with potatoes, onions, and whatever else.

Traditional home made steak pie ,cabbage and mash, followed by trifle .When I was wee it was served at midnight ,then any alcohol taken was "soaked up" ..well that was the intention. In those days of course folk left the house after eating and weren't seen until the next afternoon...or later .This year the street was silent and I am very grateful that everyone was sticking with the rules .Hopefully on our way to normality .

Maybe just half a bottle - presuming the children are not too young!

GagaJo Fri 01-Jan-21 13:36:56

Just a couple of sips maybe. One bottle later... wine wine wine wine

A Thai takeaway for two, from Sainsbury’s.
We hardly ever have ready meals, so I’m looking forward to it. Just about to put the first dish in the oven.?

Nortsat Sat 02-Jan-21 19:35:01

Chicken Bhuna, pilau rice and mushroom bhaji with a couple of poppadums, courtesy of ‘Just Eat’.
As an alternative to all the Christmas cooking. Yum

Whitewavemark2 Sat 02-Jan-21 19:37:43

Cold roast beef, mashed potato, salad.

Kate1949 Sat 02-Jan-21 20:14:14

We had Quiche Lorraine, jacket potato and salad.

Jaxjacky Sat 02-Jan-21 21:11:16

Cheese and onion quiche, new potatoes and marrow fat peas, easy!

EllanVannin Sat 02-Jan-21 21:21:17

Haddock chips and peas bread and butter and a cup of tea.

Puzzler61 Sat 02-Jan-21 21:53:36

Baked Salmon with roasted mixed veg - sweet potato, courgette, tomatoes, peppers, red onion.
And a glass of rose Prosecco.

Witzend Sun 03-Jan-21 09:42:07

A substantial mulligatawny, with plenty of rice and the last bits of turkey (from the freezer). Nice and warming when it’s cold and dismal.

David0205 Sun 03-Jan-21 10:20:52

Fed up with roast Turkey, Turkey soup, cold Turkey, sweet and sour Turkey, and Turkey curry.
Today it’s Roast Venison, Roast and Mashed Potatoes, Parsnips, Carrots, Leeks, Cabbage, followed by Blackberry and Apple Crumble.

Must get cooking.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 03-Jan-21 10:38:04

Lemon Sole - not sure what recipe yet. Might roast some veg and pop the Sole in for the last 10 minutes.

annsixty Sun 03-Jan-21 11:12:50

We are having roast chicken, we didn’t have turkey on Christmas Day so it will be a change for us.
Our once a year treat of creamed leeks, I consider it a heart attack on a plate but I love it so much I allow it once (or maybe twice) a year.

LadyGracie Sun 03-Jan-21 11:21:25

Crustless quiche, it's time to start losing the pounds.

GagaJo Sun 03-Jan-21 11:26:17

Lunch will be omlettes and dinner is meatballs in tomato sauce with mash. I am running out of food (teenage boy eating HUGE amounts) and the shops don't open here until tomorrow.

I feel a bit as if I am feeding a hippo at the zoo, chucking in huge loaves of bread to try to fill him up.

GagaJo Sun 03-Jan-21 11:26:43

*omelette

Puzzler61 Sun 03-Jan-21 17:54:12

It’s nearly ready and it’s Chicken Chasseur, baked potato, cauli and broccoli.
