What are you all having to eat tonight? I cook every evening and have been getting bored with the usual meals. Tonight, I've made a Chicken Jambalaya - it's a Hello Fresh recipe I had ages ago, but I bought all the ingredients and have adapted it a bit.
Honey glazed gammon and stir-fry veg. I find I’m so full with stir fry that I don’t even need potatoes. Probably just as well because we’re having chocolate crunch for pudding.
Tuna curry with marinated with spices given to us in Mauritius by friends and comrades of my partner. It’s totally delicious. Side of yoghurt with tiny chillis from the island of Reunion. They are incredibly hot but have a sweet aftertaste. Never had anything quite like them before. So can’t wait to return and restock the spice cupboard. Ottolenghi rice with orzo to go with the curry. Yum yum
Sausages ( from our lovely local farm (Gloucester old spot), sweet potatoes wedges roasted with thyme, braised red cabbage and Cumberland sauce( last two left over from a previous meal) ,
Spicy prawn risotto and for once a pud - bananas sort of ‘flambé’ except that I won’t bother to flame them, but heated through in a sauce of butter and brown sugar, orange and lemon juice and Cointreau - exceedingly yum.
We’re having steak, which I bought in a moment of madness in M&S, with stir fry veg-(onions, peppers, broccoli, shredded kale, tomato and sugar snaps) and I’ve just bought button mushrooms, so they’ll be in there too. Yesterday was lamb hotpot with broad beans, carrots and baby onions. I won’t need anything after that.
A piece of cod and mashed potatoes and peas--parsley sauce and a chunk of M&S choc. swiss roll with whipped cream and gooey choc. filling. It'll be M&S food all the way now for the next month fridge and freezer's bursting.
Tonight is our bi- weekly Chinese takeaway. I have had more takeaways in the last few months than I had for all my 83 years previously. What a treat, put the plates to warm, take it in from the door, place on said warm places and eat it from a tray in front of the tv. I didn’t know what I had been missing.

Has anyone else tried the baby parsnips from Sainsbury’s? They were sent in my order as a substitute for ordinary parsnips. I just scrubbed them, rolled in olive oil put them in the oven to roast and then halfway through cooking gave them a light coating of honey. They were absolutely delicious.
