Mine in a topical one .
I have never eaten turkey.

When I was a child we had a capon at Christmas for some reason . I haven’t ever heard of one since ? Did I imagine it ?

From the age of about 18 I stopped eating meat and will now never taste it .

I thought I wasn't overly fussy until I read this thread, and agreed with almost everyone, on almost everything.

Snails, eels, sushi. Brains, sweetbreads.
Tripe - the thought of putting it into my mouth makes me heave.

My friend's mother used to feed her frogs' legs; I never wanted to be invited to tea there just in case they were on the menu.

Callistemon Tue 10-Nov-20 11:24:57

Oh, and tapioca pudding. (Frogspawn)
The sight of it at school made me heave too, luckily there were always others eager to say 'don't you want that?' because we got into trouble for not eating everything on our plates.

Oopsminty Tue 10-Nov-20 11:26:44

I'd have been after your tapioca, Callistemon!

We've had cockerels for Christmas for some years now, bigger than a chicken but not as big or as "breasty" as a turkey, and with much more flavour.
Ocado have them in stock for Christmas deliver, as do lots of local butchers.

Black pudding never, beetroot once and never again, loathe tapioca but was forced to eat it at school. (Love sushi but it has to be good quality)

I'd have been after your tapioca, Callistemon!

I may be lovely but I can't put it in my mouth!

Tripe, oysters and Foie Gras (have tried them but don't like the texture), cockles and whelks (seem just like little gristley, sandy lumps to me).
I don't fancy insects or snake either. Smelly Camenbert or strong blue cheese leave me cold
Weirdly I can sometimes eat mussels and sometimes not, perhaps my nose can detect if they're not fresh?

Lilyflower Tue 10-Nov-20 11:48:28

Snails! Just ugh!

Kate1949 Tue 10-Nov-20 11:49:41

Prawns
Squid
Octopus ?
Eel
Oysters
Runny eggs of any description
Piccalilli
Belly pork. Actually I did try this once. Yuk. I managed to discreetly (I hope) remove it from my mouth into my napkin.

I had no idea a capon was a castrated cock. You learn something new everyday!

Most of the foods already mentioned I have never eaten (except curry which I love.)

One thing I have never eaten is goats cheese - I love other types of cheese but I was offered goats cheese once and it smelled so 'goaty' that I was put off forever!

Caro57 Tue 10-Nov-20 11:57:06

Love Capon - tastes far better than turkey IMO. Never eaten sweetmeats or snails

Has anyone eaten camel meat. No jokes about it gives you the hump, thank you. It's banned in Saudi Arabia, I worked out there in the 1970's, but it's reared for it's meat and leather throughout The Gulf.

tidyskatemum Tue 10-Nov-20 12:05:37

Eggs. Both the smell and the texture make me gag. I’m absolutely fine with putting them in a cake or Yorkshire puds but the mere thought of a stinky boiled or fried egg makes me feel ill.
Eels
Snails
Tripe - had it once, it was disgusting

Jellied eels, tripe, whelks (although happy to tuck into cockles and muscles), black pudding and steak. Happily eat roast or casseroled beef, but steak? Nope. I know, there’s no logic.

Best not to eat in The Argy Bargy Bar then.....we love all that there?

Taffy1234 Tue 10-Nov-20 12:13:20

Tripe it looks so slimy.

Kate, your list is also mine..
With the exception of piccalilli which I adore.

I'm also phobic about white food, I can't eat a plate of white food, it has to have some colour to break it up. Not for me a plate of steamed fish with potato and cauliflower.
When we first arrived in France I was presented with such a meal in a little auberge, very difficult trying to explain to the patron in my limited French. All his concerns about the English were proved right.

Bijou Tue 10-Nov-20 12:18:55

During the war we had to eat all sorts or go without. Whale meat, horse meat. etc. I have eaten frogs legs, snails, heart, tripe, sweetbreads but have never had a kebab, or burger.
Don’t like Chinese, Japanese or Thai food.

mimismo Tue 10-Nov-20 12:24:23

Tripe and pigs trotters, just can't get over the look of them, also blue cheese as the only time I was persuaded to try it I got a sick migraine. Kind of off-putting!

lovebeigecardigans1955 Tue 10-Nov-20 12:26:28

I've never eaten tripe as Mum never cooked it - she said it reminded her an old vest. Not very appealing.

I hate spicy food and have never eaten curry as it smells foul to me. I don't like the thought of pulses like lentils so don't have them in the house.

SueRJ Tue 10-Nov-20 12:33:44

Can't eat tomatoes! Think it's because my mother hated them mainly. Had cream of tomato soup at a wedding when I was about 12, had to rush out to be violently sick! Never touched them since which is very inconvenient, as they are in so many things - pizzas are out, so many slimming things, vegetarian dishes.

Kate1949 Tue 10-Nov-20 12:36:21

lemon smile My DH loves piccalilli. When he wants to eat it, he has to dish it up himself!

Buttonjugs Tue 10-Nov-20 12:41:21

I have been a vegetarian for over 20 years but I always refused to eat tripe, black pudding, sardines or prawns.

JaneRn Tue 10-Nov-20 12:54:39

Milk.
Laver bread
Black pudding
Egg white - except when it is turned into a meringue
Sourdough bread
