Are you traditional with lemon and sugar or do you like to ring the changes ?
Savoury maybe rather than sweet ?

Lemon and sugar here normally but I forgot that it was Shrove Tuesday and only have one lemon in stock , so will rustle up some cherry sauce from frozen berries and serve with some left over cream .

DH likes traditional lemon and sugar but DS and I like a scoop of icecream and drizzle of chocolate sauce.

My DH insists on having currants in the batter, is this a Welsh thing?

We have Lemon and Sugar or Maple syrup and Bacon, the Latter is a favourite with my Grandchildren when they are able to come for Breakfast, but DH once tried it and now loves it too!
I make various Savory ones for myself, mainly Cheese based, but before being diagnosed with Diabetes, I used to love the Black forest variety, with Cherries in Kirsh and Vanilla Icecream.

sugar and lemon juice - but is it today? No lemons!

Nothing - I never make pancakes

My preference is thick scotch pancakes with strawberry jam, had for breakfast this morning. Hate anything with a lemon taste, sweets, juice, etc. If it had to be crepes then just with a little drop of butter & sugar.

Sugar & strawberry jam! Cheating this year with ready made pancakes from a well known supermarket, which are delicious!

Literally never had lemon on them - it's always been orange. And, while we used to have sugar, my diabetes means it's a sugar replacement, these days.

Sugar, lemon juice and golden syrup, even though we live in Canada and maple syrup is everywhere, nothing beats Tate and Lyle golden syrup. The pancakes have to be skinny and rolled up.

If I make them for us both on the table will be maple syrup, dark muscovado sugar and lemon juice.

I prefer drop scones (scotch pancakes) these days with berries and maple syrup.

Just lemon and sugar, I know that’s a bit boring, but I don’t like mine too sweet or too thick and stodgy, gotta be thin and crispy around the edges. X

Our pancake this morning was made from the "excess" from hubby's attempts at making sourdough bread (you have to regularly feed and divide it) - was light and fluffy and tasty. We added fried bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, and a big dollop of cream cheese - spread out on it. Absolutely delicious.

I avoid wheat whenever possible (though am fine with sourdough rye bread and pancakes). These sound lovely. Could you share the recipe? Thanks.

Well I've just had mine for lunch. Pancake, bacon, maple syrup and for the first time I added a slice of black pudding. I was making ham, egg and black pudding for my husband for lunch.
I must admit it was delicious

Grandchildren here, it's half term, mum and dad working and being on my own they're my bubble (before anyone questions) They've had syrup I've had honey, I prefer lemon and sugar but have no lemon.

Happysexagenarian Tue 16-Feb-21 13:41:51

Lemon and sugar or maple syrup here.

Amberone Tue 16-Feb-21 14:17:16

I have lemon and sugar on two and golden syrup on one. OH has toffee sauce or golden syrup on all three. I love maple syrup but keep that for breakfast pancakes, with bacon, and porridge.

On Shrove Tuesday, we always have lemon and sugar, but at other times we have both sweet and savoury flavours.

The mixture is standing at the moment waiting to be cooked this evening.

I’ve tried buckwheat and flour mix this year.

Grabbed one of those ready made mixes in a container as walking through the supermarket yesterday. I had my lemon and sugar only when I went to use the ready made mixture I found it had chocolate chips added.
I made it this morning for breakfast a lovely pancake with chocolate chips, it was delicious.

Forsythia Tue 16-Feb-21 14:22:10

Just had ours for lunch. Very traditional with lemon and sugar.

Growing up in the 50/60s my gran always made a pan of thick stew on pancake day, so we would have both a savoury with the stew and then a sweet with lemon and golden syrup. Still love them with either.

It's a family tradition for us to make "Magic" pancakes. We make up a pancake mix with the kids, divide the mixture into two, say a spell over one of them and then send them off whilst the batter "rests". Once their backs are turned, we add some chopped, frozen spinach to the one with the spell so that, hey presto, when they return, their mixture has turned green. We add cheese in the middle after after cooking the pancakes and the children gobble down their healthy pancakes. They can then cook the plain ones for pudding.
Even though we have no children left at home, my husband still loves his green pancakes on pancake day...we don't say the spell! ?

Nutella for me, maple syrup for DH.

I have a happy memory of eating a Nutella crepe from a little shop in Montmartre. Got in such a mess that DH had to clean my face with a tissue, in front of all the passers-by. It was delicious, though.

CarlyD7

1 egg
Half a banana
Big dollop of peanut butter / smooth or crunchy
Mix, fry in butter, eat.
I usually double the amount.
