What is better than cheese ploughman’s with pickle ?

I like Brie but fancy a change, any suggestions please ?

I love cheese, but I'm not very as adventurous.
I really should choose a new username, because I stick to what I like.
Lovely strong cheddar.

I always think blue cheeses are very tasty and go well with a ploughman's. Tesco have a Cornish blue.

Epoisses is a favourite of mine, but if you want to use a British cheese try a Black Bomber.

GagaJo Sat 02-Apr-22 17:57:41

A smoked cheese maybe? Or I agree with Gilly3, a blue cheese.

Very little is better than a cheese ploughman's with pickle.

Love goats cheese, boursin and also brie with grapes.

Miss Adventure - how about Auntie (anti) Adventure?

I love cheese, full stop. Not found a cheese I don't like yet...

MissAdventure Sat 02-Apr-22 18:03:31

That's a good 'un.
More fitting, these days.

Somerset Brie with pears is a favourite here.
Jarlsberg is a treat.

English cheese - love a Cheddar with anything at all, though a Cheddar, apple and marmite sandwich is my lunch of choice for a treat.
There's also a Red Leicester called Sparkenhoe which is tasty. Ours was part of a gift from The Fine Cheese Company.

Black Bomber that sounds good Sago.

I like a medium cider with my Ploughman’s. I have simple tastes.

Cheddar, Cheddar and Cheddar again, really strong and really good quality.

Very, very occasionally I have a bitter shandy with mine. and some chips

Cheese on toast - plenty of extra mature Cheddar with thinly sliced onion, and plenty of Worcester Sauce shaken over the top when it’s done.

For a no carb snack, I also like Stilton mashed with cream cheese, about 50/50, and squished into a stick of celery. Though the no-carb advantage is probably lost given how much I can scoff in one go.

Epoisses is a favourite of mine, but if you want to use a British cheese try a Black Bomber.

We used always to bring Epoisses back from France, but no longer, after keeping some for a dd to collect, during which time it absolutely stank the fridge out, no matter how many layers I wrapped it in.

black bomber is lovely smile

Gilly3 Sun 03-Apr-22 09:32:24

Why is it that some cheeses smell stronger than they taste and some taste stronger than they smell?

Yammy Sun 03-Apr-22 09:37:03

It's Gorgonzola or Dolceatta for me, my husband is a more Stinking Bishop or Stilton, that's if you want to try blue cheese.
Gouda matches most wines or beers very well.
Have you got a Cheese shop near you we have a couple and one does boxes by post, the other is nearby and you can go and taste.

TillyTrotter Sun 03-Apr-22 09:41:36

Have you tried the Castellano creamy blue Brie Nankate ?
I love the soft cheeses and blue Brie is now a favourite.
Spread thickly on oat crackers - mmm .

Swaledale is a nice alternative to Wensleydale - creamier and not bitter. Since moving to Cheshire I have enjoyed the local Cheshire cheese also a creamy one. DH swears by Canadian cheddar as his favourite.

shysal Sun 03-Apr-22 10:36:17

Cambozola blue brie is my favourite.

Nannylovesshopping Sun 03-Apr-22 10:44:11

Manchego and Port Salut, yum!

Happened on a cheese called Vacherin. Gave it to a friend for Christmas. She raves about it and I haven't been able to find it since.

Roquefort with pears is delicious, a ripe Camembert, smoked cheeses, such a range. I don’t like goats cheese, but the rest of I’m peckish.
