What is for brunch or lunch ?

28 / 11. Tuesday.

Sometimes, my husband and I enjoy having brunch during the week at home instead of a typical Menu del Día as we live in The Madrid Capital.
Eggs Benedict is quite versatile and can be prepared with either Smoked Salmon or Bacon or Ham. Eggs Florentine is quite a healthy alternative and French toast is always quite endearing.

Why do you think people on here are writing blogs? I have so many food blogs but wouldn’t consider using them on here.

^We used grapeleaves (jars) from a Greek retailer^

Vine leaves?
DD used to use those, from a jar.

Our grapevines are only just budding, RosiesMaw and I've never used our fresh ones. I suppose they're safe to use?

Oh I used to enjoy making stuffed vine leaves (Dolmades?) back in the day. Jars from Sainsbugs of course.
I just didn’t make the connection with grape leaves (duh!) as my grapes never come with leaves when I buy them! gringrin 🍇 🍇

So is that what you are writing @ FrenchGal etc?

Oh, I've never heard of food blogs.

I do know some people have sites where they put their recipes online; if you look for an interesting recipe you have to trawl through pages about their life, how they acquired the ingredients from a sun-kissed orchard in Sicily, a quaint market in Croatia, a spices shop in Marrakech and I switch off. All I want is a recipe and a list of ingredients I can buy in Waitrose.

Cattery Girl,

I do not have a Blog or write recipes.

I am a journalist and have my own French & Spanish Magazine in PDF Digital Format in Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Berlin and San Francisco, California.

The articles do not contain gastronomic subjects.

It is focused on tradefairs and the publication contains photographic essays from photographers, travel, enology and interviews.

It is not a blog.

If you do not like my posts, do not read them ! Very simple.

SCROLL BY. Be pleasant ..

Chicken is in the slow cooker with onion, garlic, thyme and white wine.
It’ll be served later with small potatoes, cauliflower, carrots and mange tout.

Surely Madrid is already the capital of Spain?

Central Madrid ..

However, do note, for example, Aranjuez, Alcala de Henares etcetra are cities in The Autonomous Community of Madrid however, they are not in CENTRAL Madrid. Aranjuez is 45 km. from the Center of the City and Alcalá de Henares is 30 km. from the Center of Madrid.

So, when I say Capital - I do refer to the Central Part of the City (not the suburb cities ).

Lunch Monday: 06 / 05 / 2024:

Today in the oven are Stuffed Red Bell Peppers with mince (veal) and homemade tomato sauce, onion, garlic, paprika (pimentón), fresh parsley, Herbs of Provençe, salt and freshly ground black peppercorns and egg which is like a "hold together ingredient" for the meat within the bell peppers.

Nice Monday wishes. To serve with a baguette and a glass of wine (red): Estola 2015 Reserva - Ayuso, Albacete.

Jaxjacky Mon 06-May-24 12:57:33

My usual brunch, Weetabix, blueberries, prunes and chopped banana.

RosiesMaw Mon 06-May-24 13:18:04

I thought you must mean Central Madrid just as we say Central London but refer to the suburbs or districts in Greater London by their individual names- Hackney, Wimbledon, Camden etc.
Thank you for clearing that up. Hope it is helpful for you too.

Red Bell Stuffed Peppers: 4th Line should read:

"and the egg binds the ingredients together" (not holds together the ingredients).

Thursday: 16 / 05 / 2024 ..

My husband and I ate out Wednesday, as it was a Madrid Autonomous Community & City Holiday, Patron Saint Isidro of Agriculture. We ventured for Indian which we had not had for quite sometime at Swagat, which is well known by the British Embassy employees. Lovely cuisine and amazing interior design.

Today, was quite chilly here 10 degrees centigrade at 7am and then had risen to 21 centig however, very breezy and a bit on the chilly side however, very pleasant.

We had lunch on our terrace:

I prepared a fresh trout choucroute simmered in white Alsace wine and juniper.

The ingredients are actually very simple:
4 Slices of bacon or pancetta or guanciale
1 onion
sauerkraut
butter
2 juniper berries crushed
bay leaf
white Riesling wine
water
trout - fillets with pin bones removed

Prepared in a Dutch Oven - stove top. The trout was served on a bed of kraut.

A nice change of pace ..

Nice Thursday Wishes.

Frenchgalinspain Fri 17-May-24 20:12:45

Friday the 17th of May 2024 ..

Today temperatures plummeted and so we had a vegetable soup with pistou, which is related to the Minnestrone, however, pistou is pesto: basil, pinenuts, Extra virgin olive oil and a sprinkle of fresh garlic..

It was a warmer up with gutsy winds and 10 degrees centig.

We had some wonderful fresh oven baked bread from the bakery and in the soup: cannellini white beans soaked overnight and vegetable stock, courgette, tomato, green beans, lee, carrot and fresh thyme ..

So it was quite hearty and wonderful.

Nice weekend wishes.
