Sometimes, my husband and I enjoy having brunch during the week at home instead of a typical Menu del Día as we live in The Madrid Capital.
Eggs Benedict is quite versatile and can be prepared with either Smoked Salmon or Bacon or Ham. Eggs Florentine is quite a healthy alternative and French toast is always quite endearing.

Madrid is having a very cold and wet March. 5 degrees Centig this morning.
The entire country has been having heavy rainfalls.
Tuesday - the 18th of March .. Still grey, wet and raining all day.
A large roast chicken went into the oven along with baked Jacks. The perfect lunch .. And easy as A, B, C ..
Hope we shall have the expected sunshine on Wednesday.

Today my husband surprised me with lunch at a new Mediterranean - Turkish restaurant ..
Absolutely an exceptionally extraordinary ambiance.
We shared a few Turkish Mezze ..
Bell peppers stuffed with rice and currants
Lamb Börcelder - savoury pastries prepared in uufka similar to phyllo dough, and pines with pine nuts, courgette and lamb ..
Sautéed sea bass with almond tarator - and this is a creamy garlic and pine nut sauce. Very lovely ..
And for dessert: Nightingale´s Nests
An almond, pistachio, and phyllo pastry baked gem.
Definitely a beautiful cuisine ..
Have not been in Turkey since 1995.
It is quite an area of uncertainties ..

Firstly, though it is the 1st day of Spring, it feels like it is the 1st day of Winter. Terrible winds and quite cold and also still on and off raining !
SORT OF CHANGE OF PLANS TODAY.
Prepared a Sicilian Baked Ziti which turned out quite amazing.
Instead of a starter, we had a lovely little Bakery Treat: A bizochito of coconut with pineapple .. ( sort of a sponge ).
And served with Earl Grey but not Tea Bags ! Steeped tea ..
Was lovely. A lady friend was in London and brought it back for us.

Pork dinner is baking, daughter2 and hers will be round, they like pork.

Saturday: March 22nd, 2025 ..
Lunch today was:
Stuffed red bell peppers filled with ground beef (mince), fresh parsley, fresh basil, pine nuts, breadcrumbs from day old Baguettes, salt, black pepper corn grinded, garlic, Extra virgin olive oil & a small to medium sized egg .. This recipe hails from Naples, Campania and it is baked with home made tomato sauce in the oven. The final ingredient was an carnaroli steam rice.
Hit the spot on a cold grey day.
Our starter was a simple fennel & radicchio (red chichory) salad ..
Tuesday - the 25th of March 2025 ..
Finally, a sunny day with blue skies and a chill in the air.
Lunch today was: A French classic called Filet Mignon of Pork Normandie Style. ( Solomillo de Cerdo estilo Normandia ) ..
Turned out lovely ..
Served with steamed potatoes, Golden Delicious Apples sautéed and carrots. The sauce is prepared from Cream with Calvados ..
One can use an Apple Cider as well.

Today my husband and I, and 2 dear dear friends headed over to have our favourite Pizza at Fratelli Brothers ..
Such a gorgeous day that we walked home and enjoyed window shopping, a café on a terrace and also stopped to pick up some cheeses enroute for a cheese platter (for Sunday).

Lunch today was Homemade Tortellini filled with Ricotta and prepared with a home made tomato sauce ..
A very simple dish though one requires quite a bit of patience with preparing the pasta dough.
However, one can also purchase RANA frozen tortellini in all major supermarkets ..
Served with a small salad of Arugula ( rocket ) and Radicchio ( red chichory) with cherry tomatoes and Balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil.

Today we had gilt bream ( Dorada in Spanish ) con tapenade. The ingredients are: Garlic, Kalmata olives, capers, thyme, milk, butter, nutmeg and rosemary, salt and black freshly ground pepper.
Served with steamed tiny potatoes.
Was quite good .. The recipe was from a previous edition HOLA Magazine and looked so lovely - I asked if I could have the recipe at my hairdresser´s ..

Our salad was simply fresh fennel bulb, red chichory ( Radicchio ) and Rocket with a a light Balsamic Vinegar and Extra virgin olive oil.
Served with an oven warmed Baguette from the Bakery.

Very simple: 5 egg yolks, sugar to taste and 1/4 cup of Marsala or Vin Santo ..
Sunday: the 19th of April, 2025 ..
Today was one of the coldest and windiest days we have had since January.
Totally unpleasant.
We did the last minute shopping (supermarket / bakery/ farmer´s market ) close by ..
Today´s lunch was simple: Seared Entrecôte rare served with a baked Jack ..
A glass of red Reserva from Marqués de Murrieta, La Rioja and an oven heated Baguette ..
That was all for the moment.

Today we dined at my sister in law. She prepared a roast leg of lamb which was a jewel of a traditional dish. The starter was a beautiful salad with:
red chichory, rocket, cherry tomatoes, fennel, peeled cucumber, strips of red bell and a gorgeous vinaigrette with Balsamic vinegar and Evoo ..
Dessert: Torrijas ( the best way to describe a torrija is to say it is like a "French Toast" however, it is prepared with a special type of Spanish bread and sweet white wine (verses butter) and sugar glace & cinammon.
