What is for brunch or lunch ?
(909 Posts)28 / 11. Tuesday.
Sometimes, my husband and I enjoy having brunch during the week at home instead of a typical Menu del Día as we live in The Madrid Capital.
Eggs Benedict is quite versatile and can be prepared with either Smoked Salmon or Bacon or Ham. Eggs Florentine is quite a healthy alternative and French toast is always quite endearing.
There isn’t, our the Times is called the London Times abroad, because other countries have newspapers called the Times too, eg the Times of India.
Your lunches are a lot more exciting than mine Frenchgalinspain. I had a tuna salad sandwich and an orange this lunchtime. It was fine, just a bit dull.
Does its masthead read The London Times then?
Casdon,
We just have a different time schedule for meals ..
We eat our main meal for lunch 14.00 .. A starter and a main course .. Dessert not often.
We do a cheese platter and some fruit but a bit later in the afternoon. Close to 16.30 or 17.00.
And very light in the evening .. 2 Tapas and share ..
20.30 / 21.00 at our corner bar with dear friends or family.
I like ventresca white albacore tuna in a salad Niçoise ..
However, weather is quite chilly still.
Today lunch was baked perch served with a baked Jack ..
Have a lovely weekend.
Lunch today was at a little country pub, everything home-cooked. I baked salmon, new potatoes, and green beans with garlic, lemon, and butter sauce. My husband had steak and ale pie, skin-on fries, and mushy peas.

Sounds absolutely delicious, I didn’t realise it was your main meal at lunchtime.
Stirfrymade with chopped up hm burgers from yesterday, with onion, garlic, peppers and beans, with broccoli left overs, also from yesterday. Yogurt - 1/2 fruit yogurt with half a plain greek one (we share 50/50 for less sugar).
Casadon,
My dear husband is Madrileño and I am French and we are together 32 years .. And so, I am very accustomed to eating 14.00 and both of us work in the mornings.
It fits our timetables well.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Sunday: 23rd January 2025 / Sunday ..
My husband, 2 dear friends and I headed over to Fratelli Brothers Pizzeria for an authentic Napoletano Pizza.
Always a favourite ..
And such a lovely sunny day with blue blue skies.
Nice Sunday wishes.
Rainy here Frenchgalinspain I will be roasting a chicken, we eat our main meal between 7 and 7:30 usually.
JaxiJacky: Hope your roast chicken turned out wonderful.
27 / 02 / 2025 - Thursday ..
Lunch today was soaked overnight lentils vegetarian style: onion, leek, carrot, parsnips, celery, garlic, red bell strips, leek, aubergine & courgette ..
Delicious and warming on a cold wet Thursday.
Saturday - March 1st, 2025 ..
Today, my husband, 2 dear friends for numerous years and I went to a new Greek Restaurant in the Camberí neighbourhood.
The Spanakopita, Avgolemono lemon, egg and garlic soup, Domadakins ( Dolamadas), the Hummus and the Taramosalata were all above average and quite lovely.
We shared a wonderful dry citrus Assyrtiko, Santorini White wine and Ravani ( sort of a cross between a bizcocho and a sponge lemon tart ) for dessert ..
The Restaurant: Dionisos - Chamberí for those with future travel to The Madrid Capital.
Have a lovely weekend.
Nasty here - cloudy - drizzling and overcast ..
Friday the 6th of March 2025 ..
Since the weather has been not so nice and on & off drizzle we decided to say home.
Today I prepared a Fish Tagine with olives and charmoula marinade ..
Charmoula is prepared with smoked paprika / cumin / cilantro and garlic with saffron and turmeric ..
Served with a side of Cous cous.
Was quite lovely ..
Dessert shall be Greek Yogurt with fresh fruits a little later ..
Have a wonderful weekend.
All our best wishes for a nice weekend.
Saturday: The 7th of March 2025 ..
Lunch at home on a cold, grey and rainy Saturday.
Definitely a hot stew to keep us warm ..
Alubias blancas ( navy beans soaked over night ) and then I added parsnips, celery, leek, carrots, turnips, tomato, onion, garlic, extra virgin olive oil, salt, freshly ground black pepper, fresh parsley, Provençales Herbes, smoked paprika and courgette peeled and aubergine peeled.
A true gem of a warmer up ..
Served with a hot oven warmed baguette.
Have a nice wkend.
09 / 03 / 2025 - Sunday ..
The smokiness of luscious oven sheet roasted chicken is always a delight.
The warm fresh baby spinach leaf salad with apple cider vinegar and extra virgin olive oil hit the flavour notes.
Simple, just some Raf red tomato, granny smith apple slices skinless, fresh pomegranate seeds and oven baked croutons. Kept it simple.
A simple lunch as we wanted to get out and enjoy the blue skies and sun after almost 2 weeks of wet, grey and morbid weather.
Nice Sunday wishes.
Monday, the 10th of March, 2025 ..
Today, my dearest brought home Chinese Rice called Tres Delicioso and Peking Duck with crêpes from our local take out ..
The weather has been hideous once again with on and off rain, grey and overcast.
Hit the spot ..
I cannot eat cheese, as it makes me sick. It is really annoying as so many good cheese things to try, so my variation on the cheese toasty, is this. I use wholemeal or granary bread, then small amount of butter inside and then ham with slices of, large tomatoes or half cherry tomatoes , then slices of raw onion. Then put sandwich together and put some butter on outside of bread and then into sandwich toaster Result is a very tasty (in my opinion) hot quick lunch/brunch and fits in when the others have cheese and tomato toasties. Also another useful bit is that my sandwich toaster is easy to clean!!

Sorry to hear that you are "lactose intolerant" to cheeses.
We enjoy a wide variety of cheeses ..
I am sure you know, that there are cheeses that do not contain lactose ..
Tuesday the 11th of March 2025 ..
Today was another off and on rainy day.
Our starter was a classic Minnestrone with fresh fennel and grilled freshly caught Salmon grilled.
A lovely lunch for two.
Nice Tuesday wishes.
12th Wednesday 2025
Today back to 5 degrees centigrade. So home sweet home !
Boletus Mushrooms sautéed in Evoo (extra virgin olive oil) and served with eggs to our liking.
My husband likes sunny side up and I prefer a French Omelette.
Lots of various cheeses from Spain and France and gorgeous oven warmed fresh breads from the bakery.
Simple and light yet filling.
The 17th of March, 2025 - Monday.
Today we headed over to The James Joyce Pub for an Irish Lunch.
We went with dear friends and had a lovely time.
There were some Irish specialties as the owner is Irish
and also their regular Menú.
I always have the Irish Smoked Salmon which is true treat.
The gents had Cornbeef and Cabbage. Had a taste and it was splendidly superbly perfectly prepared and tender.
Maria had her favourite, which is the roast beef !
Weather is back to cold cold .. Was 5 degrees centigrade this morning !!
