Ready Mashed Potato recommendations please?

I never thought I would be asking about something like this, but at 87 I have arthritis in my wrists and hands and shoulders, and peeling potatoes is painful. Has any Gransnetter tried any of the ready mashed types that you can buy? If so would you recommend? I didn't even know there was such a thing until my daughter suggested it, but as she has never tried it herself she couldn't recommend one. I am struggling with feeding the two of us and really don't want to go as far as ready meals yet. Thank you for any help.

I have no pride. We use Smash sometimes and also ready meals. I can't spend ages cooking now as my Dd is often in the kitchen so a quick microwave is good.
Is there any research on the healthiest ready meals? Must look.

I always keep a packet of Idahoan buttery mash in the cupboard for when I run out of potatoes (just add boiling water). I sometimes think it tastes better than mine, but my Husband can tell the difference usually. 'Smash' was the forerunner years ago, but I have not tried it for years. You can also buy frozen mash, or fresh packs in the ready meals isle.

DD always has Aldi mashed potato in the fridge or freezer for one of her extremely fussy boys, she says it is delicious.

I was sent a pack of the Idahoan by Sainsbury, and found them fine. I have also bought most of the preprepared mashes, and with a wee bit extra butter also found them quite acceptable.
As a child, I remember loving Yeoman instant mash.

My late MiL found some of the supermarket ready made mash a godsend when she could no longer make her own. She was sceptical at first, never having bought any kind of 'ready meal' in her life, but both she and my FiL found it quite acceptable. A friend also swears by the Idahoan mash, and I keep thinking I might buy a packet just to take with us in our motorhome, but I keep forgetting.

I have found Idahoan instant mash to be the best, I use it when making shepherds pie and can’t really tell the difference. I sometimes add cream cheese or sour cream and it tastes yummy. Best part about instant mash is no lumps

I find frozen mash really good.
In the chilled selection, sainsbury's seems fine, too.

They have the basic kind, and the more fancy one (which is nicer)

We’re very fickle and use any of them! ‘Proper’ mash can’t be beaten, but the instants are fine if you add butter/herbs/onion salt/garlic (also instant! - granules).

Frozen mash has been a revelation! I've used both Tesco's and Morrisons, so easy they come in little sausage shaped pellets, so can have as few or many as you want and just microwave. Add butter if you'd like, personally I don't bother. Very easy, tastes good and convenient!

Yep.
Frozen is my preference - no waste, no work, and having a bag always in the freezer means a lot of meals are half done for you.

Soup, and a big dollop of mash. Yum!

I second frozen mash. My DH prefers rice with a casserole type meal so I can just do one portion for myself for a change and only takes a couple of minutes. Any of the big supermarkets or Aldi ones taste fine.

Forgive what may be an odd question but has anyone used Smash or similar in place of a fresh potato when making soup? Adding a potato often gives a better texture but I can never get through a bag of potatoes before they sprout.

Frozen mash for me
Love ‘Iceland’ frozen mash it’s much much nicer than the powder ones I have used it from other supermarkets too all lovely

My DH likes the Idaho mash, I add a little butter and pepper & salt. Not keen myself.

Yes! If I run out of cornflour I use instant mash as a substitute. Make sure that you stir the soup as you add it, otherwise you end up with solid clumps which have a powdery middle!

Another vote for Idahoan mash. A friend recommended it last year to use on shepherds pie. I wasn’t expecting much but gave it a go and really like it. I always have one in reserve in the cupboard. Very handy for one of those nights when cooking is a chore. I had some last night with sausages and beans for a quick tasty dinner.

To my knowledge, I have never eaten instant mash in my life and mashed potato is not something I would order in a restaurant so I am of no help.

The frozen pellet type from Waitrose is really lovely. I use it for my cottage and shepherd pies.
The Aldi and M and S ready made mash is really nice too. Mand S also do a cheesy mash. Great with sausages.
All can be frozen too.
It is so much easier and there is no difference in the taste once you add butter and salt and pepper.

M&S mash, in the chilled Dept, is lovely and can be quickly done in the microwave and they have a nice selection too, plain mash, mash and swede, colcannon mash and a couple of others.
