Tonight we are having Italian omelette, home made oven chips and salad.

I have been making oven chips the same way for years and wondered if anyone has any 'upgrades' we might like.

I parboil the chips, leave them to steam a little in a colander, rough them up a bit, toss in hot olive oil with a little melted butter and roast in a hot oven.

Ideas for variety very welcome.

They are lovely, I agree Mabon1. However, if you’re looking to cut down on fat, the other methods make a tasty alternative.

My Mum used to cook them gently in the fat (dripping) in the chip pan, tilt the basket to drain then heat up the fat very hot and plunge them back in for a short time.
I did have a chip pan too for many years.
They tasted so much better done that way.

I put Slap your mama on mine just before I put them in the oven (amazon) or tesco do a Greek lemon garlic and herb rub which is nice and fresh.

I don’t use olive oil for oven made chips because it doesn’t have as high a smoke point as other oils and when it reaches that point it can breakdown into compounds that are bad for your health.

I don't parboil, I microwave them first, then drizzle oil on them, then roast, sometimes I add salt and black pepper before roasting, or sometimes spice them up with Za'atar which makes them really tasty xxx

Yes, deep fried. Taste so much better.

I’m not a good cook - I don’t pretend. I do try to avoid ultra processed foods and once a week we have oven chips. The best are Aldi’s ,a yellow pack - they literally have two ingredients: potato and sunflower oil. Sunflower oil isn’t the best, but realistically they are the best, most have another 5/6 ingredients. Do look at ingredients - if you make them from scratch, I truly applaud you!

Instead of par boiling I pop my potatoes in micro wave with dash of water and cook for around 3 mins, then place on baking sheet spray with fry light olive oil then cook in Airfryer for about 20 mins
