New slogan from Waitrose apparently .
I came back from the supermarket this morning to find my two orchids, an Aloe Vera and my Swiss Cheese Plant hiding under the bed. hmm

Whiff

RosiesMaw that made me laugh. Had heart attack on Monday moved to other other hospital for stent or stents fitted probably tomorrow.

Oh Lord Whiff! Everything crossed for a very speedy recovery! 💐

I told my GS about eating 30 plants a week and he went into my conservatory, where there are several plants and said "Be afraid, be very afraid".grin

😂😂

Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall has a book, out last year, and recipes for how to achieve the 30 per week. I’ve been doing it, and there are remarkably few expensive or exotic ingredients, provided you’ve got a freezer. It makes sense to me to eat a very varied diet, he does a big salady thing to incorporate them all daily, but I just ring the changes so I get them in over the week.

Here’s the list in case anybody wants to have a go.

Is this a proven fact that it is good for you or is it just a marketing ploy?

HousePlantQueen Fri 10-Jan-25 19:03:11

Hope all goes well, Whiff.

I have eaten 9 in 2 meals today. Easy peasy

It is research based Tizliz, the American Gut Project.

The idea is to eat 30 different plants a week, not a straight forward total of 30.

I will have had 19 by the time I go to bed tonight -20 if wine counts …. Off to check 😀

Oh dear @ M0nica - only a bit of fun 🤣🤣

I did realise that, but I was just illustrating just how silly it is when anyone on a normal mixed diet can do half of it in one day without even trying.

All these dramatic new nutrition plans are all so much BS, mainly a scheme to make money out of the gullible.

Do weeds count?

Does weed count?

I have four pieces of fruit a day, plus two vegetables ( sometimes more) with dinner. Therefore 7x6 =42 . Hurrah .

It’s to be 30 different plants a week. So if you are duplicating your fruit, Shiite imagine you must be, your calculations don’t work.

Mogsmaw Fri 10-Jan-25 19:50:34

That’s “which I imagine you must be” . I don’t know what is happening with this autocorrect!

Oh dear, hope all goes well and you are better soon. You are still posting so hopefullythat is a good sign.

Fruit is easy- peezy if expensive but if you’re really hard core you need to tackle veg such as Curley kale, spinach and unfamiliar grains and beans (other than baked beans) 😊

Granmarderby10 Fri 10-Jan-25 22:30:55

whiff laughter is often the very best medicine. But not too hard though until you’ve recovered a bit.
Get well soon and all the best.😺

Seriously, do we actually NEED all these different ones? There must surely be enough vitamins and minerals in a smaller number? Only a limited range is available in season and some of us are conscious of air miles used to transport exotic fruits, for example. ( Sorry, I know this was intended as a light hearted thread).

Chocolate plants are the way forward then?

Just had two pieces of dark chocolate but as for the plants- does wine count? Had two glasses of that too!

PamelaJ1 Fri 10-Jan-25 22:53:54

I know that we are all a bit fed up of the advice that doled out day after day. This week you will live to 150(or thereabouts) if you only drink coffee in the morning!
However I do think that a varied diet makes sense and , as Monica already mentioned, 30 plants a week is so easy that one can bask in the glory of success 24/7. What’s not to like?

HousePlantQueen Fri 10-Jan-25 22:58:16

I count each different item, but then again, as I don't eat meat, eating a variety of fruit and veg is not too tricky. It doesn't have to be huge portions, a pinch of a spice or herb counts. As does dark chocolate!

Does Christmas cake count?

Granmarderby10 Fri 10-Jan-25 23:12:05

Ooh I hope so- I am very suggestive where food is concerned. Going to have some now!😀

henetha Fri 10-Jan-25 23:14:56

I don't really fancy eating my cacti collection.....oh the heartburn angry

Does Christmas cake count?

I’m sure it does… currants, sultanas, raisins, cherries. Also lemon in the marzipan!

Isn't it to do with the microbiome which improves digestion, the immune systems and metabolism. Different plants have different microbiomes.

I was surprise to hear on the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures that Chris Van Tulleken's microbiome will have more in common with his pet cat's microbiome than with his twin brother Xander's ... because the cat drinks from the kitchen tap!
